Installed an ATM in his house! Then went BROKE? What else Stunted DeShawn Stevenson's Growth?

Yes, DeShawn Stevenson was said to be "The next Michael Jordan" leaving high school. He was that good. His potential was through the roof, which allowed him to go straight to the league. He's also said to have went BROKE at some point after amassing $27 million over his career. On the court he’s a former McDonald’s all American that led his west team in scoring in that game with 25 and the victory. As a senior in high school he averaged 30 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assist, which led to him being highly recruited and even committing to Kansas. Of course in typical Stevenson fashion, he decided to skip college, where he was taken in the first round, 23rd overall. At this point Deshawn was expected to have the same scoring impact he did in high school, using the athleticism he showed as an ammeter to have an outstanding career. He’s played 13 seasons in the league, with his biggest impact coming in his time with the Washington wizards in 06-07 where he averaged 11ppg and 40% from 3. He has a career average of 7ppg which by many accounts was a disappointment. I don’t think Stevenson was disappointing, although with his skill set and ability to thrive in big game situations, I can see why much more was expected of him. Here are 3 reasons his Growth was Stunted. And how he may have went BROKE. OUT NOW!!

I met D. Stevenson with his family in Dec. 2014 at Disney World in Florida. He was so cool, he took pics with our family and my mother who had terminal cancer and passed away within a year later. He sat and talked with my mom and she hugged on him as if he was part of the family. He may not know how much she/we appreciated the time he took away from his family to hang with us. He's a real one! Much respect and I hope he and his family are well!!

It’s interesting that both him and Darius Miles were in the same draft straight out of high school and ended up being taken by teams in polar opposite directions. D Miles went to an extremely young team and Deshawn went to and extremely old team. I wonder how their careers would have turned if their situations were switched.

I watched his Washington Union team go against Drew Gooden’s El Cerritos Team in the CIF finals back in 1999 at the Arco Arena. my family knew Drew Gooden since he was a kid my cousin was cool with Deshawn Stevenson. Man U must have been seated right next to us cuz Roy came right down & was gawking at this kid.. we all were deshawn was the best I’ve seen in ca maybe not named Shea cotton.. 2 great bigs that yeah in gooden & tyson chandler.. & who I felt during those state champ was easily hands down best player that made the most impact for his team.. Deshawn. I’ve went to 6-8 state champ in ca & several ca playoff games. Deshawn was the best I’ve seen along w Schea cotton. SG I think he growth was stunted meaning he didn’t meet expectations but I mean roy called him on DS wiki “the most talented recruit I’ve ever recruited”. That is saying a lot as he had PP & other talented guys he recruited. Deshawn took over that el Cerrito game & was semi shaking cocky as idk what after every crazy dunk. That 1 handed oop? 1 dribble thru lane smash? Got that game on vhs still to this day! Lol. Collector edition! Haha! Great game w 2 decade nba guys going toe to toe.

DeShawn Stevenson couldn't shoot, didn't have a fundamental game, but he played with heart and passion.

If my memory serves correctly, wasn't homie one of the vital pieces that helped Dirk get that elusive first ring? I was just 16 at the time, but I think I vividly remember dude hitting big shots and chirping at Miami 😂

Unless they were a FOR SURE lottery pick, almost nobody should’ve gone pro out of high school. Almost a second rounder and it showed. Mediocre career barely shooting 40%.

I still remember him bringing Soulja Boy out to the Wiz vs Cavs playoff series. He did good for himself but definitely could’ve done much better especially with his finances

I believe in today's NBA, they should only allow highschoolers to come into the league in cycles. Every 5 years open the draft to highschoolers, other wise, a player should have to be 2years removed from graduating from highschool. They would bring in more polished and skilled players that way.
