This was beautifully explained especially with the "Corset" example. Very well done, your excellent on actually getting things through to consumers without being overly technical

Had the rigid collars on my FD2R. It was the first mod when I got my GR Yaris. Great stuff especially when you pair with pillowball top mounts.

Can you describe the difference before and after instalking the rigid collar on your FD2R? I'm considering it but would like to hear from someone who has done it to their FD2R. Thanks
@mjolinir9
@mjolinir9 4 месяца назад
@@eugenes3837 Its hard to describe because its all about the feel. My initial condition was a stock FD2R fitted with Ohlins R&T DFV with Ohlins pillowball top mounts. Then we installed the steering rigid collars, front and rear subframe collars. The first most apparent difference is in the steering which becomes more accurate and you're able to place the car confidently in the turns and are able to trust it more to keep the chosen line. There is far less need to do micro corrections in the corner. This especially helps when you're squeezing past another car in a high speed turn. The second difference is that you can perceive that the suspension is actually working because its been given a more rigid base on which to work against. It seems to me that the pillowball top mounts are key to working with the rigid collar and vice versa. Case 1 my FD2R with pillowballs only really really felt fantastic after fitting the rigid collars. Case 2 my GRY with rigid collars only felt next level after fitting Cusco pillowball front topmounts. YMMV.

Loving what you are doing to this car 🫶 what a weapon 😎 Track days are going to be so good in this car with these upgrades 🔥 Also a quick question while I’m here I’m in Japan atm and was looking at going and checking out the car scene while here. I’ll be in Tokyo on the 31st Jan and the 1st Dec. Is there anything going on these nights?

There’s an upgrade parts program for the GRMN. I will do that to the car rather than getting the newer version.

Sorry, but these do nothing other than align the subframe to the body. The way you describe them is how the company sells them, which is total BS. They are a waste of money and do nothing. The manufacturer has a clearance between bolt and subframe for manufacturing tolerances. If the bolts are tight there will be no movement between frames so these do nothing to improve control, rigidity, handling or NVH. Sorry, but these things will do nothing for the life of the car as you describe.

Try before concluding dummy. I have these on my ek9 and dc5 and it works as advertised
@descendinggod9740
@descendinggod9740 10 дней назад
You are incorrect @NigelsModellingBench. Manufacturers allow play between the subframe and body for ease of driving. These collars procure to a very niche audience who dont care about ease of driving, but want very strict and direct control. If every car manufacturer had 0 tolerance play between subframe and body, vast majority of consumers would be turned off by this because they will find it "more difficult than normal" to drive everyday, comparative to cars with play and tolerance. Everyday consumers dont want to put in effort turning steering wheel or be thrown back everytime they accelerate. They want a robotic unconnected driving experience where they can flick the steering wheel with a pinky and the car goes where they want.
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench 10 дней назад
@@descendinggod9740 you are incorrect. Manufacturers allow play between the subframe and body for ease of manufacture and tolerance stack. Do you actually think the subframe floats around on the chassis of the car? You are referring to rubber bushes giving compliance to reduce nvh and add to comfort. Take most front subframes on any car, be it front, rear or 4wd. The subframe is generally bolted to the body without any bushes. The clearance that these things take up are tolerances for assembly purposes. The only benefit these will offer is the centralising of the oversized hole to the bolt diameter. The compliance and nvh reduction is catered for by bushes in the suspension arms and engine mounts.

@@NigelsModellingBench So your saying everyone whos ever bought and installed these are collectively lying or suffering from delirious placebo effect? I get what your saying, but I disagree with your statement that these products do absolutely nothing.
@NigelsModellingBench
@NigelsModellingBench 10 дней назад
@@descendinggod9740 I’m glad you get what I’m saying. Yes, I think there must be a placebo effect going on here, OR perhaps, as I mentioned earlier, their ability to centre the bolt in the oversized clearance hole is improving alignment? A Mustang S550 literally has a 34?mm bore in each rear subframe bush. The bolt in the hole is 14mm, so there is literally 10mm clearance around each bolt in all directions. I have added sleeves to centre the bolts in the bore, only to ensure the subframe goes back in the same place each time. Without the sleeves the subframe would go back in a different position every time it is fitted, by a LOT!! This has not improved the feel of the car whatsoever, and my sleeves are doing the same job as these parts. I also have a GR Yaris and would not dream of wasting my money on these things unless I wanted to remove my subframes. Notice the guy below who has these on his GR, he states the real improvement came when he fitted pillow ball mounts. In doing so he has removed compliance, which these crush washers do not do.
