I finally found the perfect place to build the ultimate car guy compound. Tons of car parts, tools, and a motorcycle were left behind. So today we're going to sort through everything, throw a ton of stuff away, and start cleaning things up. A new house, a new shop, and a place to build cars better than ever before... but the house has some strange secrets of it's own.

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make RU-vid videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?

Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

LOL at the Hoovie cameo, and it's awesome you have so many people helping you with this, Gabe, Jake, Eric, mystery person helping with the wallpaper, you're definitely making progress! To the people commenting that JR is taking too long on his house, just about the whole thing needed to be gutted and had a litany of problems, plus he's not just fixing them he's making it better so it's incredibly time consuming, the place is probably going to double in value once he's done with it. Side note, I wouldn't have gone with a Goodman, I was offered one from a company that was going to put in a new furnace for me and the difference between that piece of junk and a top of the line, larger Rheem was only $200, it was a no-brainer choice.

Dayum JR, and I thought our Goodman unit was large. Our new Goodman dwarfs the original Tempstar that we had when we bought our house. Original unit was under tonnage and about 25 years old when we replaced it. One thing about a Goodman is that it's a good one. We paid the same for ours. I also commented before finishing the video. I am so happy to see her back. Please do an update. You two were always so perfect on here together. I was actually sad when you two weren't together anymore. Sometimes, distance and time can bring two people who truly love each other back. I think things will be even stronger than before. I have never met you in person, and I am certainly not a relationship expert. I'm just a guy in his early 50's that has experienced life. Love and loss. So happy right now.

Overall, they clean your clothes just as well, and you can get them dried too. However, the non-vented dryers take a long time to reach the same dryness level as the vented dryers. Also, from an operational efficiency perspective, it takes you longer to complete multiple loads as you can't throw the next batch in the washer as the first batch dries. Once you get used to them and adjust your laundry habits by doing smaller daily/bi-daily loads instead of multiple loads on a single day, they are OK. The newest heat pump LG and GE machines are supposed to be very energy efficient, but I don't have experience with them.
@justinborysenko3885

They use an ac compressor as a heat pump to make heat and dry like your car defroster. No vent needed the unit removes the moisture, condenses it and pumps it down the drain

Wouldn't have recommended going with Goodman for the A/C system for a variety of reasons, main one being that the build quality of the internals from the compressor to the coils is not very good. If you install them right and are on top of servicing them (the outdoor unit condenser coils HATE it and the units fail when you don't keep the coils clean, so make sure you give them a thorough cleaning every 2 years) they can last a decent amount but they're not worth the meager amount of money saved when you consider the low build quality. If you're on a budget something from a Carrier subsidiary like Bryant or Comfortmaker, or Rheem are all better more reliable choices. Also do not recommend getting any A/C unit at this point that is not a heat pump. The difference in electric costs in the winter is massive and it pays for itself within 1-2 winter seasons. They usually also have additional built in safety/reliability features like high and/or low pressure disconnect switches that will shut off the unit if the pressures are too high or low.

My original R22 A/C went out last week after I left home on a business trip. Wife came home to 95F house at 8PM in the evening after work. Got a crew out the next day to fix, but because I couldn't shop a solution it cost me much more than you spent. I also went from a 3.5 Ton to a 4.0 Ton, needed 45000 BTU, got 48000. The upgrade has made a difference as the new system can hold a colder temp during the day than the original system could do when the outside air got to 100+.

Excellent! I did my own HVAC this spring as well. I went with 3 ton dual stage 18 seer heat pump/dual fuel with furnace. My house is also in Kansas, similar size and I went from 5 tons all the way to 3 tons per my Manual J calculations. System has been getting nice long run times and still keeping the house at 70 or below. Electric bill down 30%.

I bought the Ge Profile 2-1 back in November last year. Been very happy with it! It does things slightly different than you are used to. It requires slightly more aggressive lint trap cleanings to keep drying maximized Uses the wash basin as a type of "humidity chamber" so clothes feel more moist as you pull them out, but also has a "more dry" function to minimize that if it bothers you. The detergent and fabric softener tanks are really awesome when you want to "set and forget". Software works pretty decent on the control screen, but its not always seamless. Unit weighs 300 Lbs, so its not easy to move around. VERY efficient. Looks great. I think you will enjoy it. Any questions, Ill help out how I can!

I pulled the carb of a pressure washer that must have been sitting for years… Not only were all the jets plugged up, the throttle and choke plates were seized solid as well. A little bath in carb cleaner, and some judicious application of a selection of tip-cleaning files from the welding toolbox, and good to go.

Get a programmable thermostat to prevent short cycling with a larger AC. Have it kick on a degree above setpoint and run until it's 2 degrees below setpoint. Most of the wear happens on startup. Also helps if you go with slightly thicker drywall for any gutted rooms as it provides more thermal mass.

I probably would’ve went 3 or 3.5 ton for that house so it gets long run times and dehumidifies well. And the 80k furnace would’ve been more than enough, 60k probably would be optimal. Hope your ductwork can handle 1600 CFM without raising the static too high

I envy your washer dryer. People who don’t trust them don’t understand heat pump vs resistance heating (big savings) and condenser removal of moisture into a drain as water versus out the hole in the wall as heated air. Might not have the oomph of high-energy heat, but ultimately a much better solution.

Central air would be nice but we'll probably go with some form of mini split if we ever upgrade, maybe the ducted version that ties in with the original heat ducts in the house. I just got AC installed a couple of weeks ago. The company does goodman furnaces but won't use their AC, instead they use the parent company units (so Daikin). I got the Daikon Fit which is more efficient, much quiter and since it does variable speed it runs almost all the time so humidity management is great and temperature distribution is very even, and the outside part is smaller too. 12 year parts and labour warranty too.

I have that GE washer/dryer combo. Got it last October. Been running like a champ. It did require a hard reset once back in January because it would only dry for like 10 minutes at a time but hasn't happened since. Recommend looking into the filter mod to prevent any lint from making past the filter or just using a Milwaukee handheld sprayer to occasionally clean the fins. Note that humidity lingers a lot in the drum so it can give the false impression that it didn't finish drying. I have never had to run extra dry time since I learned that. Just got to open the door and let the humidity dissipate. Being able to press a button at bed time and waking up to washed/dried clothes is a game changer. The app is a must as you can set you exact detergent that you use

Do the dryer vent now so you have the option. I don't have one in my 60s home. It just spill to the garage. Horrible and has damaged things over time. Going to vent outside. Wouldn't mind a heat pump dryer, but think that not doing washing and drying at the same time will slow things a bit. Especially for a younger family (we are not), but would make it much slower.

I have LG all in one and it is working fine for a family of four. A bit more weekly maintenance but no more cleaning our 25 ft dryer vent twice a year in FL heat. It is certainly slower than a vented dryer but we've had no trouble keeping up with our family's wash. My dryer was in air-conditioned space so not moving our conditioned air outside as well. We are roughly at 60% of our electric consumption on wash days now. Our old dryer was electric. Hope it works well for you. I suspect you will keep up with cleaning the coils so should last a while for you. There are some lint filter upgrades for your model floating around the Tube as well.

I have one of those washer/dryers. They are pretty good. The bigger the load the longer the dry cycle by a lot. So keep loads smaller. I have not tried to do any comforters or big blankets, I imagine it will suck on those. If you choose the button to make it dry more, clothes will still feel like they are coming out damp, however they are very warm and as the temp comes down as you fold them they dry the rest of the way pretty instantly. Its weird to describe but once you experience it you will likely agree. The biggest pain is keeping the filter clean. I have mine next to a 60 gal air compressor so I just blow it out every couple of weeks.

IMHO. Since you removed the 2X4's that went floor to ceiling, that half wall is no longer stable. It may not sway now, but it will. I suggest you install a 3/4 inch sheet of plywood and then top that with sheetrock. You may also need to install angle brackets at each 2X4, top and bottom to anchor the wall firmly to your bottom plate. And, of course the bottom plate needs a solid connection to the floor. In the end you really need to rebuild and over engineer that half wall using 2X6's.

@@pinkertonfld 5k is not too bad for the a 4 ton plus 96 afue 100k BTU furnace (without labor).. He should have went heat pump/dual fuel. Would have saved a ton if he ever goes solar on the roof.

@@joeyscleaninglady2877yea I’m curious why he didn’t (and why regulators don’t require it for new AC installs) because an Air Conditioner IS a heat pump. Besides it’s not because he’s against the tech because he has two for his shop.

He could have purchased it through his Dad's business name. Definitely qualified and licensed in HVAC.

Heated floors sound awesome but they don't work well unless you have 220V. 120V systems take too long... It's the equivalent of heating a room with a toaster.

So if possible can I have the info on the sump pump that you installed? I definitely like the idea that it sounded like it has.

If you're running any Samsung Q series or frame you're going to need a 14x18 to fit that PS5 they call the one connect. Hope that helps in the future
