Just subbed. I am a bricklayer by trade but we did get taught the basics of leadwork during our apprenticeship in the eighties. Lovely to watch you work, I remember being taught how to stretch and shrink lead a little. Looking forward to learning more now.

@@slbleadworks Yes still laying bricks. I do a bit of everything now though. We did a nine week pre apprenticeship in the early eighties where we did carpentry and plumbing along with bricklaying. I really enjoyed the concept of lead working, how to stretch it and shrink it. Keep going with the channel, it is therapeutic to watch so hopefully you will do OK.

Who needs Netflix or Amazon prime when u can watch this kinda quality viewing. I could watch you work all day. Another great video and another fine installation. 30 odd years in the game myself and I always learn great tips and techniques from ur content. Keep em coming fella. I have to say you seem very modest about your work which is highly skilled. All in a days work for u but I’m fascinated by your work and I’m also well attuned to know how long it takes to learn this stuff and be able to earn a living at it. That job right there would have taken me 3 days and I’d probably have burned through the lead a couple of times. Therefore I can’t do it in a financially viable manner. I have to use alternative options. Sorry. I’m laying on a bit thick. But u deserve the recognition.

Absolutely love lead as a building material - lasts for decades, and then it can be recycled so easily back into something as good as the original (it doesn't downcycle). Great video.

What precautions do you take if welding in situ? For example the back ends off the roll mop, i'd be so paranoid about setting fire to the roof
@slbleadworks

I always make sure I’ve got a fire extinguisher to hand and I perform a fire check afterwards. Also I make sure all my gussets to be welded in are lapped which helps massively too

Thank you. Omg it really would have been. The first and fourth bay would have just been square bays like the other two. When I first saw it I thought omg🤦🏻‍♂️😂 . But to be fair this has been the best job of my career so far. I was on it for nine months. I’ve done 4 big lead flat roofs. 8 barrel dormers and lead valleys etc. I have another 4 vids I think on this job. And the owner was such a nice guy too. So at the time the portico couldn’t be built as the builders needed to carry on with the main house and we needed to get it all in the dry.

I am a building contractor across the pond, and we rarely see lead used any more. Have never seen it formed around a round member like that. I will be flashing with lead around a masonry chimney in the coming weeks, this video inspired me to order some of the tools that you are using but alas, not sold in the states. Were the original tools made from wood? If so do you know what species. Beautiful work.
