Is there something that can be installed on the vent for the ducting to attach to?

@jamiewaquan9254. Yes, if you get the hood kit, it comes with a round (duct) pipe fitting that screws into the bottom of the hood.

Thanks for commenting. Do you mean I should have caulked under the flange of the vent at the top? I'm just trying to make sure that I understand exactly what you believe was incorrect. Thanks.

@@highqualityhomemaintenance7565 yes! under the flange top, left, right under the flange. Not saying that your install was incorrect, it could have been done a little better.

@@jerzey1016if you’re in a dry area with no rainfall over any humidity at all then nothing is wrong with this install. Otherwise, for 96% of the rest of the planet utmost attention to weatherproofing should be made. This 4-minute time-saving you gained by not doing it, and the $6 in materials it would have cost could cause some damp and rot that could (when, not if) eventually cost the homeowners multiple thousands to fix.

I don't think anyone (gov't included) really cares where a bath fan gets vented, so long as it is vented to the outside and doesn't allow water to leak inside.

How would you vent a second story bath on a house with a hip roof? There is no side wall to go out. It's either the roof or the soffit. Both come with their own issues.
