Great content! Questions: 1. If you have the XR18 in place of the X32, would you leave it on stage so you don't have to get a digital stage box like the s32? And just control your mix in a laptop/ tablet by the tech booth. 2. Is this speakers better than the TurboSound IP2000? 3. Do you think the behringer HA8000 is more beneficial than of the PM1 for the IEM?

Hi Jake, one question. You mentioned Behringer PM1 arround the 8:00 mark.. They are actually not mono but stereo over XLR. How did you connect them to the mixer? At the first glance I can't see any amp in the rack.. did you connect it directly to the AUX over a XLR to XLR cable where the pin 2 (+) of AUX was connected to pin 2 (L) and 3 (R) on the PM1 side? Is that possible? Or do you always need an headphone amp? Thank you for your answer..

@yoyo919499
@yoyo919499 4 года назад
First off, I'd like to say that I completely understand about it being completely different in a exceptional way.However, I do have to say that if you are going to switch, make sure you are personally ready for the responsibility of all of it. Generally, a digital mixer is a great way to go, but if the church is still relatively small and just kind of scraping by then it may not be the best time to actually implement it just yet. Another thing to consider is whether or not your church will actually need it. If you have a small worship team (maybe it's just yourself, a piano, a guitar, a drummer, and a back up singer) then it may not really be needed as this type of set up does accommodate for a decent size team (Even if you do go with the S16 which is the smaller version of the S32). Lastly, if you don't have a sound person who is willing to a.) take the time to learn a new system and b.) work on making it the best then that's a problem in itself because it is difficult to learn the X32 when switching from analog if you just click through the different settings since now you have to deal with newer age problems like routing and such. This isn't to discourage you at all though! You do know your church better than I do so if you think it'd truly be a blessing then I'd try showing him videos and talking to him about why it'd be beneficial to your team.

@ennis437
@ennis437 4 года назад
A couple of quick observations the PM1 is in fact a stereo In ear monitor that is passive and is driven from a headphone amp. It’s really nothing more then a volume attenuator, the signal from the board will probably not have enough level to properly drive the pm 1 as it was designed to be used In conjunction with a headphone amp. HOWEVER The Behringer P2 is a mono IEM that has a built in amplifier that requires 2 aaa batteries and will do exactly what you are trying to do with it. It also has a switch inside of it to run stereo from a stereo output.
@donodom3
@donodom3 4 года назад
Vincent Ennis I do not know what the trend is of nobody knowing anything on this channel’s comment section but you are very very wrong. The PM1 is the passive version of the PM2, both are MONO. The difference is that the PM1 is not powered but it CAN be used without an amp, although it would not be powerful. The PM2 is powered but still mono. The P1 however is stereo and powered, I think you may be confused.
@donodom3
@donodom3 4 года назад
A rule of thumb is that if something doesn’t have two XLR preamps it is probably not stereo ;)
@ennis437
@ennis437 4 года назад
Donald Odom III nope not confused at all I own both units, if you slide the unit open (which is what you do to ch age the batteries you will find a selector switch that allows you to select mono or stereo. Read the manual if you don’t believe me here is a link to the www.fullcompass.com/common/files/37054-POWERPLAYP2Datasheet.pdf
@ennis437
@ennis437 4 года назад
Donald Odom III you would be right 90% of the time HOWEVER in this instance this particular device the PM1 was designed to EXCEPT AN UNBALANCED stereo input not a Balanced XLR/TRS Input . There is a massive difference. Sometimes people confuse balanced audio signals with left/right stereo balance, which is when audio is split into a left channel and right channel. This can be confusing because the connectors carry either balanced signals or unbalanced stereo signals (left and right channels). Note: While it is less common, XLR and TRS cables are also capable of carrying unbalanced, stereo audio (both left and right channels on one cable) to a destination. Which is what this device does. And also why you hear stereo when plugging a single headphone cable into your phone or vehicle speakers. I’m going to be making a video real soon with sound excerpts from each device explaining this in greater detail.

Hi Jake & the team, am I right in saying that you're plugging the PM1 belt packs directly into the S16 without a headphone amp? Do you find the musicians are able to get enough volume using this method? At the moment we're going via a headphone amp but I'd love to simplify it.
@jayjayripoff
@jayjayripoff 4 года назад
The PM1 is the headphone amp I believe. Though the P2 is now out for $10 more, and can run a stereo input. Also there's the stereo P1, that has volume, pan, 2 inputs and a sturdier belt clip. Just looking until these myself. :-)

I DO appreciate this type of video. Unfortunately my church bought on of the first Presonus live digital mixer with motorized sliders. The basic manual and learning curve was so bad we have been using like an analog board. You can find many RU-vid or Presonus videos to have their systems do BIG things but NO BASIC plug-your-mic-in-and-get-sound. We do not use any effects such as REVERB because we set the knobs like the manuals/video but no effect. I even did an email thread with a RU-vid Presonus person to get the Reverb working. No luck. Very disappointed in the whole digital mixer stuff.

Is it fine to keep speakers on side wall
@inconsistencies327
@inconsistencies327 4 года назад
Are the subs time aligned to the tops? I assume that the tops have a crossover, most people in the congregation won't really care or notice, but there might be phasing around the crossover point.
@collinclark3669
@collinclark3669 4 года назад
Inconsistencies that really wouldn’t be a big issue, however it would be ideal. The more problematic issue (but probably done for some kind of reason) is the subs being pushed apart instead of pushed together in the center. This can creat what’s know as a “power alley” and the “power valley” basically ride in the center isle you’ll have a doubling in spl but move a little to the side and you’ve lost your subs basically. If it’s measured out correctly it could be fine but due to it being subs and their waveforms this is something to consider. But yeah time aligning to the mains is ideal but this is also something for anyone to consider putting together a sound system 😀 (sorry that was very nerdy)
@inconsistencies327
@inconsistencies327 4 года назад
@@collinclark3669 That's great advice, it's not nerdy at all, any tip would be much appreciated by others. I did take this into consideration but since the stage isn't elevated high enough and I assume the center of the stage is being used for people walking up and down it might be a little obnoxious having subs there. Maybe if the subs were to the left and right of the center it would fill the center and give an even spread. Tbh I was more concerned about the subs being too close to the wall as you mentioned before, but I wouldn't put the subs too close together to create a "power valley" just because having a high SPL of bass wouldn't be ideal for most churches. I highly doubt 18" high powered subs will be too far lost maybe a few dB in the center which goes the same for the tops. Many would prefer the sub to just and a punch or "third dimension" as some would call it, rather than having heavy bass that we're used to having due to pop culture's emphasis on having building shaking bass. Keep in mind this advice is just for those who need a simple setup going just like this church, if you really wanted to go super technical there are plenty of forums to look at. This is what I've found from experience and there may be a few issues that I haven't noticed.
@collinclark3669
@collinclark3669 4 года назад
Inconsistencies oh yeah for sure we had the same issue at our church but we have our subs in an enclosure together that his hung in the air (of course we weren’t going for something simple haha) having them separated is actually where the power valley happens, it’s weird science and something that wasn’t even touched on till my 3rd semester of audio school so it’s definitely more of a really hard topic to completely grasp. I still don’t even understand it all haha! But like you said it’s church and it doesn’t need to slamming 110 dBspl of 50 Hertz 😂 it definitely is nice tho to have them pushed together to create that perfect even spread and then just back down the volume if it’s too much. But at the end of the day God doesn’t care how you place your subs hahaha! 🙌🏼

After much encouragement from me, we raised ours up, about 5 yeas go. And as media became more of a thing and again much encouragement, increased the floor space from 2 x 2.5 mtrs to 2.6 x 4 mtrs just to make room for people to come and go without climbing over each other and also the gear, sound, video, lighting and slides. The room doesn't even miss the space and we fit 8 - 10 people on the plat form if we want to, there's usually always three to four people minimum. Tip make it bigger than you think you need it.

It's not a bad option when you don't have enough space for a mixing desk. we have one installed in our youth ministry room but we are upgrading to an X32 Rack so we can do rehearsals with it and for the services we just plug in the x32 desk and we already have and are ready to go. The UI24R can get annoying when you got more than around 8 channels, because you got no complete overview of the surface. Our sound engineers complained, that they cannot act as fast as on a real mixing desk, because we lately added some more channels like talkback mics and we're expanding our backingtrack rack with 8 channels. So for the engineers it gets way more complicated when they have to switch between layers and views to get to ther essential functions such as mute groups, EQs and stuff. Hope I could help you with my opinion.

An option for a mixer could be the Behringer X Air (12 or 16). It's a much more compact digital mixer, and could definitely work well for a smaller budget. I would also check local listings for used music equipment. I've been able to make a few solid purchases through places like Facebook marketplace and OfferUp for my church (also fairly small).

If you keep analog Multicore, owns a hardware graphic equalizer and your band is small, a Zoom Livetrak L12 or L20 could also do.

OMG! Why would someone with a high quality system dare to use anything from the pirates of Behringer. Ugh.
