Installing A Gigabit Ethernet Connection For My Laptop

Part of the reasoning behind me getting my NAS was so I would be able to edit my video on both my laptop and desktop. Editing them over gigabit on my desktop is a smooth experience, but when it comes to my laptop I need to rely on Wi-Fi which isn’t gigabit, so I am usually waiting minutes just for the files to steam over and load in.
I decided to get a 7.5m Ethernet and literally run it across the wall between my laptop, router, and NAS, to ensure I get gigabit speeds between them. I'll also get slightly faster download speeds because it’s via Ethernet, instead of Wi-Fi, but that's just a bonus I guess.

why do you run it so high up on the wall instead of just floor level?

Okay this was totally misleading to me. All I see, is that you just connected your laptop via hard wire, rather than using the wi-fi. But that will ONLY work, if the network adapter card in your laptop is capable of gigabit speed. Most are stopped at 100 mbps. I have returned 3 laptops now, because I was told they would connect faster than 100 mbps. My service supplies me with 300/300 mbps, and both of my desktops handle it nicely, because they have 1000 gig cards in them.

I have my PC connected via a Intel dual port 10gbe NIC via CAT8 cables to a 10Gbe switch in my office that is connected via CAT8 cables to my Asustor AS4004T NAS - i also have a 10Gbe connection from the 10GBe switch to a QNAP 2.5 Gbe switch in my lounge which i connect to my Dell XPS 15 9500 laptop via a pluggable 2.5 Gbe adapter. and while thats fast i would like to find a way to access the 10Gbe transfer rates my PC enjoys, could get a 10gbe adapter but would like to explore other options first....Any thoughts?

I like to use conduits for the cabling. I think it looks better especially in your case that you have white walls. Unfortunately, your video is not what I was looking for.
