I was that little girl working with her Dad once upon a time... and now I am building my kitchen cabinets. Never underestimate the influence you have on your children by letting them accomplish things on their own. Good job! And great video!
The first half of the ru-vid.comUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
You are a natural teacher! When ur daughter asks u to start the nail and u reassure she can do it is priceless. That was no doubt a confidence and skill building moment. As a female DIYer I think my confidence came from my own dad letting me help build and fix things. Being able to build and fix things is empowering! Plus I save thousands ;) Cheers to you and your awesome family!!!
About to retrofit two cabinets...very helpful video...kudos for over engineering the supports. I always overkill stuff like that too. Helps me sleep at night.
Great Job! I especially appreciate you showing your struggle on getting it in there by yourself. Also great job on letting your daughter help. Those are some of my fondest memories working with my Uncle. ❤️
I think this will be very helpful when I install my undermount farmhouse sink. Its 10" deep and will need a 36" cabinet . I will build supports for the weight of it. Thank you
Thank you for your video just what I needed, I’ve done some lifting like that in my younger days, might want to reconsider on down the road, have a great thanksgiving.
I bought a ceramic apron front at an auction so I have no template. I was looking around for ideas on how to cut the cabinet front accurately. When I came across this video I thought hey I've seen this dude teaching the dreams solo. Went back and for sure it was you! Nice job on both. I like your kitchen! And the Allman Brothers!
Nice. That support system would work fine with treated 2x4 on a concrete slab. 👍 I'm building a kitchen island also. Now, if I could convince wifey on the dark countertops.
You may need basement supports under those 2x4s, don't want 2x4s going through flooring. Great job on flipping sink over to get it in place, a little risky but you got it done. Looks great!
Good video. It appears that the precision is not too important for the kohler cast iron sink. Watching at the end it appears that you lost the top rail for the cabinet doors?? The one that you were chiseling I’ll be installing this sink over the weekend in a new cabinet. I’m hoping for a cleaner cut and to preserve the top rail for structural integrity. Thanks for the vid!
Looks awesome man. My wife and I are planning on putting a farm sink in then counters down the road a little. It looks like it gets put in just about how I was thinking. Just need to do it now !
Great video and thanks ! However can I ask why you didn't just cut a cross member and install it at the correct height? Why all that other lumber ! 4x4 etc etc , all that's needed is a single 2x on each side 5/8s from the top and then a couple legs on each side also 2x4 ..just wondering what I'm missing here ? Seems like a lot of extra lumber , thanks
Thanks! yes, I've found that all DIY projects are more involved than I first thought, haha. Good luck with your install, let me know if you have any questions
I have a question for you, sir. Since I saw you used a regular top mount sink before, I would assume you also used the regular sink base to fit the old sink. My question is: would that base cabinet doors interfere with your new farmhouse sink front plate?
Great video looks terrific! How much clearance do you need between the bottom of the sink and the front doors. My sink’s apron is 9 inches ( sink 10 inches deep) thx
Just ran across this. We're having a 140lbs sink installed, but tpo mount. My husband has been concerned about the cabinets holding the weight. However, our house is 43 years old and cabinets , very strongly built. Hopefully, he'll only have to do plumbing, and we won't need extra bracing, his big concern.
Hi-- thanks for this video! Very helpful. Question, for this sink, what size did you get? we have a standard 36 in cabinet base and I am hearing conflicting ideas about what size we should get. Thanks!
Cool job the worktops next to sink was it 2 pieces ? Looked like there may be a join just at rear right side of sink? How did it look up close ? Cool tap too and sink was fixed in how ? Silicone/adhesive? Looks cool
Good job, Pop! Letting your minion start the nails and finish them off was too cool. When she asked for help I just knew you were going to turn around and start them, then when you didn't a light bulb went off. I confess I probably would have. Hopefully when this scenario presents itself in my future I'll play my cards better. Thanks, Brother. I'm right in the middle of a total kitchen reno myself and we're going from a double bowl to a copper single bowl. How'd you figure on how much supplemental bracing to put in?
Thanks for your video! We are going for an under-mount farmer sink too and I see on your countertop you have a joint right in the middle of your sink and faucet’s hole. With all the splashing water,I'm a little worried to do the same. Do you have any issues yet?
GREAT VIDEO! Thanks for the play by play!! QUESTION,- Im cutting the sink into an existing base cabinets as well. Unfortunately the sink didn't come with the templet to cut the cross member. In your opinion, Was it necessary to cut the cross beam considering it fits behind the sink apron?
Just bought a house and this sink is in there but looks yellowish. Idk if that’s the original color but can it the Painted or can I make it look more shiny
Thanks for the video. I'm actually going for a very similar look but wasn't sure if it would work out in real life the way I was imagining it in my head. The video convinced me it should look even better than I thought when the project is complete. What type of countertop did you go with?
You’ll need a strong frame to support the weight of the sink. Remember this sink design is under mount so the counter doesn’t hold it up. The frame won’t leave a lot of room for a shelf IMO
Looks beautiful ! Question - when you put the counter top down, what did you use to keep water from seeping between the sink & top? I love the farm house sinks. Your cabnets I really like too, shaker style . Your little apprentice reminds me of me when I was younger. 👍👍😊
Thanks, Sue! after they put in the counter top, they shimmed the sink up tight against the counter top and then sealed it with silicone. thanks for the compliments and I love having my little helper around for all of these projects
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Quick question what size is your kitchen wall to wall? I notice you have a island how much space do you have between the sink and island?
QUESTION: Did you install a disposal? If so. Were there any issues with clearance being that the outlet is toward the rear corner of the sink? Thanks for a great video!
Mark John Michaud Hi, thanks, no issues with clearance. Send me an email and I’ll send you a pic of the disposal I just took. Kylebollendorf1 at gmail dot com
