I live in Moscow. I bought a house last year and viewed more than twenty suburban properties when I was shopping. An engineer. A public health board. Minimum distances. Regulations. Inspections. Nice things you do have. Let me give you some options for sewage disposal I have seen implemented, among the houses for sale I viewed. First, there is some "unused" wood area around. Install a pump in that tank and discharge the sewage through a hose into the nearby woods every night. Optionally, spray it around your own garden weekly (also works in the winter, never mind the yellow snow). If there is a stream nearby, feel free to run a discharge pipe into the stream. A roadside trench will do too. If there is neither available, dump it right at the property border and hope your neighbour is not too unhappy about a permanent wet spot in his garden. Or you can dig a small pond on your land and dump it all there. There was only one house with a drainage field among those I viewed. And, there were all the above solutions.

"This septic system could have gone a drop smoother." What a great attitude. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear Andrew say that he lost any money on this project, only time. He commented on an earlier video that he charges by the hour. So my hope is that his frustration was caused by having to do the work several times, rather than losing any money. The property owner should be very pleased with the work he did. Also, as an engineer for 30 years, there were plenty of times when I admitted my mistakes, took the responsibility, and did what was needed to make things right.

I think there were two engineers involved, first - the homeowner's engineer who designed and PE stamped the septic system design (redesigning it two or three times from last fall) and second - a county Health Department engineer who inspects the work after installation. We all know every engineer always agrees with every other engineer (sarcasm), Andrew just gets stuck in the middle and has to eat three days of labor and machine time.

Here in Australia about $30 per tonne for 20mm screenings or a 20mm rubble/road base material which we just use a scalps(non speck) is around $10-16 per tonne. Did you have to pay for all the extra material? Or did the engineer. I probably already know who.did.

You are a hard working young man. I am an engineer and I admire the way you overcome all problems that dare to cross your path. You hit a good balance between being bold and reckless to being precise and methodical. Every time you tackle something it makes you better ready for the next time. That’s the way it is supposed to work. Your videos would teach so many people how to get stuff done if they could put down the video games for a while and watch how you learn on the job and don’t take failure as an option.

Andrew Camarata, We watch for advice too!!! I've been in welding for 20+ years. It's almost always those so-called "engineers" that screw it up for the people actually "doing the labor". It should be required by law, for "every engineer" to necessarily have to work on the sites they advise or set standards for!!! AWESOME JOB!!!

We are preparing to have a septic system installed. I've never seen one installed, and I didn't know the "box" could be cement. I've only seen plastic ones. Thanks for showing the mistakes. It helped us understand why septic systems are so expensive...or why it takes so much money to install one.

I sorry to see that you first work did not pass by the inspector, honestly it was a very good job in the first place, it was ten times better than the one I got at my house. My contractor did a very poorly job from start to finish, I don’t even think he installed the d box , a clean out that I have to redo it. I should have found you before, in other words, you really do an amazing job , you take pride on your work. 👍

I have been basically doing the same thing over the past few months. Although here in Kentucky inspectors are not as strict... luckily. It’s always an amazing feeling and a weight of my shoulders when I get a bigger job finally finished. Good job here, and like you said it’s better you show the mistakes rather than cover them up. It helped me seeing what is allowable and what isn’t even if the inspections here are not as strict. I like my work to last a long time while keeping ground water clean around it.

Many thanks for showing an honest video of your project. I have done many construction projects, including renovations, and am no stranger to what kind of unforeseeable problems can pop up. OMG, I can only imagine the amount of equipment and man hours this project cost/lost. The fact you completed this project speaks volumes for your personal integrity. You're definitely worthy of respect. Unfortunately, not many contractors would have gone as far as you did. Definitely top 15%, perhaps top 2%. Kudos!

I hope they paid you for all the extra work. They should have had these plan's worked out before putting you through all this extra trouble. I really like your honesty and integrity as I have been watching your video's. I'm a female who used to run a 200+ burial a year cemetery where I had to maintain the building's, grounds, and burials, which involved a lot of different skill set's. The cemetery was built on huge hill's made out of the dirt from putting in a highway. Digging was dangerous in the winter because the company gave my cemetery all the junk from the union cemeteries in Detroit, which had a union because they had enough people to form one, and I had one full time guy, and a part time guy in the mowing season. We had a john deere with the extend a hoe, which was way to big, and slid a lot in the winter. I kept trying to get a track hoe with rubber track's, but they would rather see someone die. Trying to set the vault with tree's and memorials everwhere was challenging. I ended up getting hurt on the job because of the junk equipment,, and had to sue for the damn place to pay for the last of 4 surgeries on my right leg and knee. It is never worth putting up with garbage equipment at a job. I like how you maintain what you have, and do the job right. I always did a good job, even with junk, and a skeleton crew, because that's how I was raised, and my dad and grandpa taught me how to do a lot of what I know. It's a bummer I can't work anymore from the injury, and MS, but your video's remind me of the the old day's. God bless.

Just loved the video. If the engineer does not hand you a set of plans, then you just wait. If she makes a revision, get it in writing and notify the parties involved as to what happened. Including the builder, home owner and the village she works for. She made the mistake, so you must tell everyone what she did, just think of it, as protecting yourself. Even if it means the home owner has to wait. The engineer in this case does not care. Also the number of commercials in this video is 9. Better than the last video which had over twenty. Best of luck to you Andrew!

I know it is a pain, but if you wrap that black drain pipe in geotextile nonwoven fabric...it prevents root growth and clogging. It doesn't take much time. Some added insurance. Love watching this. Great video Andrew, I watched the entire series on the house. It’s Bob up in Glens Falls, the retired Line foreman. I’ve been around hundreds if not a thousand new homes sites installing primary and secondary power cables. I saw that lot with lots downhill pitch and wetness and thought its doable but tricky and like so many young inexperienced home buyers, if this is the case , I hoped they wouldn’t skimp or be prepared financially to have alterations done. Much of what I saw ‘ being tight ‘ caused me anxiousness and sense this engineer ruled on the side of caution. I hope your homeowner didn’t leave you holding the bag totally, after all that was a beautiful job and you always thought about the homeowner. Secondly....you man upped about showing the re- do’s . Anyone watching learned a lot. You are a fine young man to do so. There will be a day that you’ll have x-ray wisdom ! Trust me ....You in particular will !!! Carry on !
