Have you noticed with newer model vehicles that the anchors are being made to stick further out from the seats in an attempt to make LATCH installations easier? Both our 2020 and 2021 vehicles anchors stick out and we’re experiencing more side to side movement with our Nuna Pipa than previous cars.
Hi Alexandra. Yes! And that’s a good thing! It’s actually a result of the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety’s (IIHS) ratings system where they are rating vehicles for LATCH system ease of use. The movement you’re experiencing isn’t a concern. Each lower anchor bar is built to federal safety standard-specified width and length, so it’s the same in every vehicle. While it seems “safer” to have the vehicle seat cushioning hold the carseat more securely, in a side impact, it will compress and be negligible in terms of holding it in place.
@@CarSeatSite that’s great info, thank you SO much!! We were concerned when we tested the base install recently but this makes a lot of sense and is very reassuring. 😊 I figured if it was like that in both of our vehicles (Dodge Ram and Toyota Highlander) there was an explanation for it. Thanks again!!
Hi there! I recently picked up my 2022 Tesla Model X with captain's chairs. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a carseat that feels safe and doesn't shift around on that seat (even carseats with stability posts aren't feeling safe). My baby is 11 months and still rear facing. So far I've tried the Doona (with the base), Cybex Sirona S, Nuna Pipa Lite. I see your post in a model x a few years ago with a Nuna Rava... do you know if that or the Nuna EXEC (in rear facing) might be a good fit with the 2022 model x? Or possibly of any other options? Thank you in advance! Your videos are super helpful
Hi Andrea! Can you explain a little more about your feeling that the carseats don't feel safe and that they shift around? Have you been checking for tightness right at the belt path (where the seat belt/LATCH belt go through)? It should move less than 1" right there. I haven't tried a Doona or Sirona S, but the only carseat that's been a challenge has been the UPPAbaby KNOX and that's a challenging carseat in any vehicle. So, knowing more about how your carseats are installed and why you feel they're shifting can help me diagnose any problems that may be occurring.
Hey my Nuna pipa doesn’t have an actually leveler on the base. Just a blue line on the seat that is supposed to be level with the ground. If I’m on flat ground and I use a handheld level held up to the blue line , Would it make sense that I ’d be looking for the bubble to be in the center of the level? I dont want to over/under think this one. Any help would be appreciated!
Hi Erika. I totally understand overthinking the recline and Nuna wanted to take that out of the equation (but you still end up thinking about it 😆). Do you have the RX version? If so, recline it to either position 1 or 2, whichever gives you the most recline (sorry, I’m traveling so I don’t have access to one), and you should be good to go. 😊
