Unless you have ammo in the gun the plug rattles around in the spring. The old style had a head on it to prevent this.

About how many inches is that plug? Using a doll rod and wondering how long I should cut it.

Looks to be about 4 to 5 inches but remember you can always just cut off more if you find that you can still fit too many shells

The plug is to be in compliance with local and federal regulations when hunting waterfowl. They limit the number of shells allowed.
