We installed a ftelescoping flag pole that my husband bought at Airventure 2012. He has wanted a real flag pole for our house. We kidded him about not being able to go outside the Wearhouse at Airventure where we were selling out book without coming back with a purchase. We knew we'd be glad about the flag pole.
We dug a 1 1/2 foot square hole, 24 inches deep with gravel at the bottom so that water can go into the ground. The hole took a great many pounds of concrete.
We had to work hard to be sure the pipe that went into the ground was as perpendicular to the ground as possible. We put several thin but strong wooden strips with a level in the pipe to be sure the pole was upright and straight. We put about four inches of concrete in on top of the gravel to make the pipe as upright as possible. After that concrete dried, the next day we put in many pounds of mixed concrete. We let that set for several days.
The solar light had to be in the sunlight for 8 hours before installation. Then we put in the telescoping pole and flag and light and ball.
It looks great and was worth all the effort.
