I screenshot the photo at 0:33 in for the part numbers. PK960-08B03 PK960-08B05 Thanks for this video. I was going to spring on an aftermarket part but prefer genuine stuff. You the man!!
I might be a little late to the party on this, but on my ‘21 LE 8 passenger, I drilled a 1” hole in the plastic panel that you need to move/remove to mount the converter box, stuck the wires through that and used the rubber grommet to secure it. Now, all my wiring is inside, and I bought a $10 4-wire extension that I stick out the back. Closing the hatch secures it and keeps it from moving. All the important and expensive wiring is inside, and the cheap, replaceable wire extension is the only thing exposed to the elements. It works great.
I am sure that AMD checked the tire pressure of the spare when he had access to it because he is a car care nut. He must have done it off camera. AMD, another great DIY video.
I watched a couple of other hitch install videos and they took tail lights out and body panels off for the electrical hookup. This is so much easier and protects the tow vehicle’s electrical system. Thank you!
The good thing about the oem hitch is that it is made to fit a little further up towards the bumper so more clearance. On a 21 Highlander requires replacement of a piece of the lower bumper trim. Not sure about the sienna oem hitch. The convertor install seems pretty easy on this sienna since you don't have to remove interior panels. Thanks for the great video.
AMD, Let me congratulate the owner of this Sienna for their sound judgment. The 3,500 lbs tow rating and 35 mpg is an impressive combination for the new Hybrid Sienna. Toyota's decision to make the spare tire an option is baffling.
At least there's an option for a spare. Many manufacturers ditching spare tire option these days and only providing run flat tires (which cost more and ride rougher).
@@RealJohnnyDingo Spare tire deletes the standard stowage cubby for the 2nd row center jump seat. I'd rather have the spare personally, but that's a consideration for some folks who own 8-passenger vans I suppose.
Another very informative video. Thank you. Reminds me of the OEM tailgate lock actuator on my Tacoma. The harnesses truly are built for each specific application.
I always leave the entire wire harness 'INSIDE' the vehicle itself, and when I need to use the trailer plug I simply let it hang out the trunk/hatch and then close the truck/hatch on top of the wiring harness. It works for me, and the plug/connectors don't rust out in the salt that we have on the winter roads up here in the North-East.
Dang! So easy... I did this on my 2014 Rav4 and had to run it to taillights and up to battery, through firewall and THAT was a PITA! I don't think Toyota had a kit like this for mine, or I'd gladly pay more for it!
Have you thought about starting a podcast with the audio from your RU-vid videos? I know all videos wouldn’t translate well to audio only but for example I just started watching your last livestream FAQ video and it would be great to be able to listen to it while driving without running RU-vid running on my phone. Anyway…thank you for the content!
Need to see one done on a 2018 Sienna Van. Agree, the spare tire is a bear to remove, especially if you already have a Flat tire. What were they THINKING on that design? Informative video.
Hi AMD, could you kindly do a video on the J200 Land cruisers: their common issues over the years, and your recommendation on which years to buy? Many thanks!
Advise to all towers…get a WDH hitch (weight distribution hitch) Helps with wind sway and helps prevent rear vehicle sag (but if you do get sag add some Firestone air bags)

if this makes sense for you too, can you make a video about Rav4 Hybrid steering wheel paddle shifters? Very difficult to find any information about them. Almost no info about them on the internet actually. Prime has these levers but Rav4 hybrid non-prime models also have it in some regions. What do they do and why should we use them? Do they help charge the battery? Do they damage my car if I use them wrong? What is the right situations and right way to use them to start with? So much to learn!
Hi AMD, great video, thank it was really interesting. Do the 2020 highlander hybrid have the same wiring harness in the back and it is the same electronics ?
Great video! It looks like the harness could have been a foot longer. Did you make a video of how to install the hitch, or do you not recommend a do it your selfer install one?
Hello and thank you for your work on RU-vid. I have two questions regarding my 2021 4RUNNER: 1) Is there a way to relocate the trailer wiring access point to some place more user friendly, like the bumper? It's great that the factory has it installed, but I have to lie on my back in the dirt to plug trailer wires in. 2) Can my 2021 high beams be converted to the 2022 LED version? Thank you in advance!
Hello AMD, great video, also do you know if there is a OEM kit to add a trailer wiring harness for a 2021 Tacoma 2.7L . I understand they don't install the harness from the factory on the 2.7.
Hello AMD. If the Sienna is ordered with the tow package, will that come with larger oil cooler, transmission cooler, larger radiator from the factory? Or, is it it the same cooling system, just OE hitch and wire harness are installed at the factory?
Question I have to ask you off this topic my 2021 RAV4 Limited my phone charger keeps rejecting my iPhone to charge and I did try all variations Nope rejects and light flashes… Also one day my DCM light was crossed out couldn’t use my app to start my RAV4 I did unplug the battery problem solved..for now lol Great video & Thank you need to see RAV4 for wiring harness install Alan H
@@TheCarCareNut Not at all just QI charger that came with it..and heard it’s a common issue could be wrong tho lol.. Toyota did order another one for me to replace it. Alan H
I demanded that my 2021 Highlander Limited AWD have the Toyota Hitch rather than after market that looks like what it is. An after market patch job on a 50K vehicle. We will be going with a 2022 Sienna Limited if the chip shortage ends soon and deals can be negotiated once again as a replacement for my wife's vehicle.
I'm glad I bought the factory hitch with my 21 highlander xle. Looks more finished with it set into the bumper. Can a toyota dealer replace the 4 pin harness with a 7 pin harness on this model?
Thanks for another great video! Couple of quick questions. Where do you recommend purchasing this trailer harness kit? Do you have a recommended tow bar for the Sienna? Can I lift the sienna 1 or 2 inches without it voiding the warranty? Thanks!
Hi there car care nut, I'm planning to buy a used Highlander and I'm kinda choosing between the 2015 and the 2017 Limited ones. I'm really leaning towards the newer model since it has more assistant fancy stuff BUT I heard you once saying that the 2017 and 2018 model years had problems. Would you please clarify on that? I mean what problems are those and do the 2015 ones have (other) problems that the 2017 model doesn't have? Finally which one would you recommend more in terms of reliability? Thanks a lot for the impressive work.
@@TheCarCareNut Thanks man. I just found out, that it's actually 2018 vs 2015. But since the 2015 one costs much less money, I think I'm going with that one. If any specific advice for this model occur to mind, I would be more than happy to read that :)
Hi! Thanks for your easy explanatory video. I happened to have the same spare tire model like yours. Just wondering if the trailer wiring you installed in the video is 4-way? What about the 7-Way? I have an amateur question: can i install a combination of wiring which works for both 4-way and 7-way? thanks!
Hi. Thank you for the great video. Could you tell me the parts’ name? (I am not good at English) and could you share where you bought that at? I don’t have any idea. But I need a hitch.
Hi AMD. I installed a same Draw-Tite hitch receiver on my '21 Sienna LE. Every now and then when I'm leaving a sloped parking lot my hitch scrapes on the pavement since the Sienna is very low to the ground. I've heard people getting lift kit made my Journey Off Road installed to get the van up higher. I too am considering the lift. My question is, would getting a lift kit professionally installed void warranty of my new Sienna?
I have the OEM HITCH installed on my ‘21 Sienna ($1k option installed) and I’m *constantly* scraping slopes as you described. Toyota should not be let off the hook as their design is obviously too low as is. They should have accommodated the hutch to be installed through the bumper like other, more sensibly designed trucks. Instead, I’m fighting to have it removed and refunded. I don’t trust lifting the Sienna a couple of inches since it likely will scrape from time to time anyways.
@@robgrossi2368 that is a bummer. I had no idea OEM hitch receiver scraped too. I thought it was just the aftermarket ones. Yeah I'm not happy about this to say the least.
Hi! This is an issue reported by many owners. Installing a lift will void your warranty on suspension if there’s ever issues but not the rest of the van
@@TheCarCareNut Thanks for the confirmation that there are others in the same boat. I'm currently sending pictures to my dealer in the hopes of getting my money back because it's driving me nuts. We shouldn't have to hold our breath every time we go up or down a slope. At the end, I had to deal with mechanically removing the middle seats (buying a 3rd party dongle to bypass the airbag warning), and now I can't have a hitch.
Great videos. I have a 2017 Rav4 Hybrid. How can cant I set it for Max's towing capability? What do I parts? Is a Transmission cooler needed? Once towing upgrades are installed, What would I expect for Max's towing capability? I would like to be able to tow a small sailboat or small Pop up RV about 2200Lbs or a utility trailer loaded with Mulch.
All of the adds on this site have talked about headlight fogging up and how to restore them. Some say that the technics suggested only last for a short while. so, what is your opinion on this subject?
Same on my end Rav4 hybrid. Much easier with battery in the rear wiring up for 7 pin towing. Couldn't find a 7 pin wiring harness kit for Rav4 so went with 4 pin kit and bought 7 pin adapter 👍
I would like to point out that if you buy the factory draw bar, the other part of the wiring harness is part of the draw bar already, ask me how I know.
Great video! I read somewhere that any aftermarket hitch will require disconnecting the rear parking sensors and/or some other sensors in the rear? Can you elaborate on this?
Factory tow hitch disables the "kick to open" feature for the liftgate. Because it blocks the sensor. AMD didn't mention this so maybe the aftermarket version on this van doesn't disable the kick sensor?
@@TheCarCareNut My mistake, I thought all trim levels except for the base LE had the hands-free power liftgate with the kick sensor. But after reading your reply I just checked on the Toyota website and apparently the hands-free feature is an option. But now I can't find how to add that option anywhere. LOL I've looked at all the accessories and option groups and I haven't found it.
@@TheCarCareNut Is there a way to relocate the lock sensor (kick to open) when either getting the factory hitch, or an aftermarket hitch? I'm guessing it's just a wire harness and sensor that could be moved to another nearby location?
Hello, I am hoping you can help me, as I cannot find anything about this issue other than a random mention of it with no solution. I Recently purchased a 2020 Lexus NX300 and everything seemed great, but I have noticed that when activating the turn signals, only the inside of the front turn signals light up and not the entire lightbar as I am pretty sure it is supposed to. I missed this on the prepurchase check because the inside blinker part still worked, thus preventing the rapid blink. other than that, they failed to put the body plugs in, but I quickly remedied that per your other video recommendations. I traded a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek that I purchased new for the NX with 25,000 miles. This is a car that I would like to last forever and I am like you in terms of everything working properly. Is this an easy fix or do I need a replacement. It doesn't seem like a common issue. PLEASE HELP! Thank you! Love the channel btw.
Just went through this battle on an 07 avalon Radar cruise control was throwing a code as well as a wheel speed sensor which is typical at 300k best way to diagnose is to use a minivci 1.4.1 cable for 16 bucks and read the codes but a 2.0.4 cable should give you access to almost all your needs goodluck
Hey AMD question for you. What's the oldest car year that your dealer will work on? Just curious since some other brands won't even touch some older models .. thanks
I tow with my 2008 Camry hybrid. On flat ground with class one trailer (1000lbs) keeping the speed moderate the inverter does not get too hot. On hills at 50 mph the inverter gets quite hot real fast. Question: Are new models of Toyota hybrid better for towing?
Why is there such a difference in towing capacity between the 2021 RAV4 AWD XLE vs the TRD. I know there is a difference in the AWD system. The XLE is 1500lbs vs the TRD is 3500lbs.
Thanks for the video. Congratulations on your channels growth!!A Toyota salesman told me that to pull 3500lbs with the new Sienna 2021 it needs a transmission cooler. Any idea if that is true?
@@TheCarCareNut thank you for the fast reply! Can you clarify, does the 2021 Sienna come with an engine oil cooler standard? Or is this something I’ll need to add after purchasing the car? Our goal is to be able to tow up to 3500lbs.
Hi. I have a 2021 Toyota Sienna LE and No Fog lights. I found one but I don’t know how to install it. Can you please make a video on Installing a fog lights. Thanks
Hey car care nut.My 2020 corolla se was low on coolant like an inch or two below the low line on a 94 degree day when the car is cold.No leaks.Topped it off,its been three weeks coolant level has not moved.Your thoughts??
Hi I have a question for you, I have found a 2010 sequoia SR5 with the 4.6, Would you recommend it? It has 55k miles and the seller is asking $13,500. Thanks
Hello. I've been following you for a while. I have a very important question, and there's nobody else more appropiate to answer it than you. I'm from Europe, and I want to buy a Toyota. Ever since I entered college I wanted, as I was in mechanical engineering school, and half of my teachers had one. I'm looking for the new Yaris Cross. The engine was originally built for the new Yaris, which is 200kg (441lbs) lighter than the Yaris Cross. It's got only 116 hp (combined) in a 1.5 liters, 3 cylinders configuration. What do you think: is it a good buy? Is the engine strong enough to sustain it? Or is it underpowered? Should I look for another car, with a more powerful engine? I do mention that in here we do not do as much highway driving. But we have lots of mountains, where we have only one lane/side and have to do sometimes some overtakings. For example, with the same money, I can also buy a Mazda 3 e-Skyactive X full option. Thanks.
Hi! While we don’t have the exact same engine in the us to give you a direct answer. That engine is a good engine I am aware of it’s technical specs. As far as the car it is a small engine that doesn’t make much power. It can struggle on steep mountain roads. Your best bet is to try to find a rental and try it out
If I may contribute to that, since in also from Europe: If there's a retailer near by, just go there and test drive it. You could tell him in advance, that's gonna take some time cuz you wanna test this and that. This is how I did it until I found what I needed.
@@mimo5515 Yeah. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait, as the car will launch in my country at the start of October. So no car for test drive, nothing up until then. Hope I won't do any stupid and be fooled by the gorgeaous looks of Mazda 3..
@@AlexuuMetaaL Nothing to be fooled about. The Mazda 3 is a nice car. I have a friend who bought one new 2-3 years ago and he loves it. But I really don't think that both vehicles compare. The Yaris Cross is bigger and is a hybrid. AND if you like a good driving experience I'm pretty much convinced you'd like the Mazda 3 much more than a mini Crossover like the Yaris. Another example: I liked the Mazda cx5 in terms of handling and curve behaviour much more than a Rav4 AWD. With Mazda you really feel you stay in your seat on tight curves. Do test drive anything before buying it.
And don't forget CVT vs sequential. You should test what you prefer. Don't forget Toyota's CVT is usually louder when accelerating than others on the market. For example I couldn't stand driving an Auris or a RAV4 2015, too loud for me, but loved the Highlander Hybrid.. Test everything!
I have a issue with my 2021 Sienna XSE AWD. I replaced the rims because I didnt like the factory one. After a week with the new rims on it I started having TPWS malfuntion
I need to add a trailer hitch to tow a small trailer and also to add a scooter carrier so to carry a scooter when she needs it. What was the price range of the wiring harness from the dealer?
Hello sir, I have replaced the front windshield of my 2021 sienna because it's got cracked, but after replacing and calibrated front safety camera, whenever I go with full capacity passenger like 7 people's and heavy luggage in trunk, on highway after like 10 to 15 mile drive warning errors come like your pcs malfunction, rsa malfunction and headlight system malfunction, I don't get it why it's happening on fully loaded cargo volume and passenger, when there is less passenger and cargo nothing happens, should I have to recalibration front windshield camera??or any idea why or how to fix it. Thank you
