A friend of mine needs some help installing a WiFi card and you might too. It's not hard. Just a few easy steps and you'll be connected to the internet.
Every pc building tutorial seems to kinda assume you're using ethernet and never touches on wireless wifi so this is extremely helpful. Thank you for this
Just wondering Robert do u get wifi before u install the drivers? Because I am planning on buying one but idk if I have to search the web to install the drivers
Mine came with a card, but the antennas weren’t attached, and to a laymen i had no idea what it wanted from me 😂😂 this video saved me a lot of time, thanks
I bought a card to install on my computer as I can't use Ethernet in the room I've moved it to and this is the first video I've watched that didn't over complicate things so thanks for making this. Hopefully I won't blow up the computer tomorrow when I try this!
Been planning a step-by-step overhaul of my PC that I got a couple years ago, and this has been super helpful! Folks I live with fought me a fair bit on using an ethernet cable, so to the wifi card I go.
Thanks for this amazing video! Helped me a lot truly. I am still wondering tho if I should install the wifi card when building or after downloading windows and so on?
You just became like a best friend on this channel... (I love your teaching), You explain well, w/details, Love-love your channel! and I love this great nice host. (Two-Thumbs-Way-UP)-!!! (I just subscribe to your channel).
Hey question those antennas on the back . What position do you position them to get a good signal . My signal seems to drop. I think they screwed in right.
Thank you so much for this! I would like a wifi card for gaming, are there any specs I should be paying attention to when looking for cards to get? I bought a USB for Wifi but it takes so long to download even simple files (like .jpgs) so I would like to replace it
Please I need help! I bought a prebuilt bc but the rods the antenna are supposed to go on are too close together for both the provided antenna to fit. I don’t know what to do. Do I just use one? Buy smaller antenna?
Hello great video! I just have a quick question, I have a pc that I built and didn't realize I need to install wifi to it. So I bought a wifi adapter, and for a year it worked but now it no longer connects :( So I was wondering which what chip you used or recommend.
That's correct. Windows has basic drivers for almost everything like wifi and graphics cards to make them work before official drivers are installed. This is true even before that. If you are installing windows and have a wifi card installed, it will detect it and use it in the installation process.
@@fearlessfragger8051 And I managed to change the Wi Fi card in my computer, first time I have ever changed a card! Also, I usually use an anti static wrist strap, is that overkill? Thanks very much.
@@anthonyfaulkner432 Congratulations! As for the wrist strap, I don't personally use one (I have one) because I'm lazy. If you really want to play it safe, a wrist strap is fine. Think of it like a seatbelt. Hope you never need it, but if you do, at least you had it on ;)
just got a gaming pc with no wifi chip :( Was really concerned until i saw your video and this gave me so much confidence. just ordered a wifi chip off of amazon lets see if it works. :)
When I buy a pcie wifi card to connect to wifi will the drivers install automatically without wifi needed? Because I can not connect to the internet to install its drivers
Yes. Microsoft/Windows have basic drivers for mostly everything from wifi cards to graphics cards. When you start up your PC after installation, Windows will take a second to get it up and running. Then you can connect to the internet and download the most recent drivers.
Is there any WiFi card I can use for wireless because I don’t have a Ethernet access because I’m in my room and I got a USB adapter that needs the drivers but I don’t have WiFi what was the thing you hsed
my pc adaptor will only take 2.4(802.11n)-i need 5 ghz for supplier to give me more speed-am i correct in assuming if i do what u are doing in video i will be able to get 5 ghz-not very computer literate thanks
i bought a GPU thats too big and doesnt allow me to insert my old TP-link adaptor so i assuemed i didnt need it now i dont have wifi is there another way to add wifi without installing this?
Hi just wondering, as a newcomer to PC building, I am just a little bit unsure of which PCIe x1 slot to install it in. Does it differ? And does it matter?
Hello, First off, welcome to PC building. It's a lot of fun. So the general rule of thumb is start at the top and work down. However some of that is superstition. I always mount my GPU in the first available slot and any other cards (wifi, extra usb, and so on) where it's most convenient and so it doesn't interfere with my configuration. Basically the closer you are to the CPU the better. Same goes for RAM if you have two sticks and four slots. Start closest to the CPU (then skip a slot) and place your next stick. Sorry this answer got a little wordy. Hope this helps :)
I have a major issue that has come up recently!! So I bought a Wifi card recently (specifically an AX 5400) and installed it into the correct space where it is supposed to go. But for some reason, it causes my computer to boot up for around 3 seconds and then turn off immediately after. After turning off it will then turn on again for 3 seconds, and rinse/repeat after that. Nothing shows up on the monitor that whole time. I have no idea what is going on here. Any ideas at all from anyone? Ps. Removing the Wifi card allows the PC to run as normal again.
It's amazing how a trash picked computer gives you 3 slots where you can install your network card, while my 150 dollar motherboard comes with just one slot, which is blocked by a graphics card.
Hi can u help alot if people say you also need to plug a usb in but on the same pc your working with i have the same and there is no usb one theres already my pc usb plugged in
Short answer, yes. Long answer, yes, here's why. When you install most new hardware, wifi card, graphics card, etc Windows has base generic drivers for it to operate. It might not at an optimal level, but it will work. Then you can go online and download the real drivers from the manufacturers website and your device will run even smoother.
I appreciate the answer sir but i got one more question according to the msi ax916ac, will it automatically detect a wifi if i install it on my motherboard? Because i have all brand new custom gaming pc i don’t know what’s the purpose of the wifi drivers.
@@primo6898 Yes it will work for you immediately. However you should still install the most up to date drivers from online anyway, even if it's working. These drivers can improve the performance of the device. They can also help with compatibility with other hardware like your motherboard. And I always go online instead of the CD because they will be the most up to date. I hope this helped. Enjoy your new pc :)
Not sure if you've figured it out yet, but it will either work perfectly out of the box, or be a massive nightmare to get to work. Ideally, you want to look at the wifi card in question and look for its specifications to see if Linux is supported. If not, you're better off buying a card that has native Linux support.
I'll admit, I bought this some time ago so I'm not 100% sure but I think it's this one... www.newegg.com/p/14U-00AE-00013?Description=wifi%20card%20netis&cm_re=wifi_card_netis-_-14U-00AE-00013-_-Product
On modern computers you don't need to hold down the power button to get rid of "residual power" as motherboards have protection against all of this now and sata power and data connections are hot swappable I do it all the time no issues. But this pc looks pretty old but sata is still hot swappable no matter how old the pc is
