I added wireless apple car play to our discovery sport. This was the one thing the car lacked when purchased, and it has made a huge difference!
Tools and Materials Needed:
Trim removal tools
Screwdriver set
Torx Driver set
Apple CarPlay unit (compatible with Land Rover Discovery Sport)
Mounting brackets and screws
Electrical tape
Zip ties

Thank you so much for doing this video! It answers so many more questions about the trim and screw locations, rather than just the radio stuff that I am researching. I've been trying to fix a rattle for ages but couldn't work out how to get in there.

The reverse camera should kick in automatically without a third party camera, others have shown this on youtube. Also should have done wireless rather than having to plug it in each time.

@@matthewlaw8268 does have wireless, but wireless runs through WiFi. I’d rather use wired and charge my phone the same time. Probably depends on the Landrover model for the reverse camera.

I've done the same thing on my manual one a few months back and the rear camera doesn't work no matter what... I was hoping you found a way to make it work... Good job documenting everything by the way!

Thank you, I’m going to fit a 3rd party one to the system, so it’ll run separately. Also using the system to fit one in the back seats to use as a baby monitor :)

@GarrethEvans Very useful step by step guide that helped me through the installation ... can you advise about dipswitch configuration that worked out fo you at then end ? I am having issue with the original reverse camera that is flickering with dipswitch 8 on position ON .... am I doing something wrong ?

I just installed this and the backup camera didn’t work at first. There are dip switches that need to be changed. You must unplug the white power connector from the new unit every time you try a new dip switch setting. The combinations are only dips 1,2, and 3. Mine ended up working with dips 1 and 3 off and dip 2 on.

No reversing camera for me just scrambled screen - no video feed for rear camera but dip 2 everything else works

Ok fixed had to power cycle the car - dip 2 and 8 and its working on the main display when changing to Android or Apple it flashes between displays 😊

Hi, thank you. I did, but it was a weird one. So what I actually did 2 months ago was bought a cheap reverse camera to plug into the unit, and shoved it behind the dash. This then allowed the unit to read that there’s a camera connected, but automatically selects the main reverse camera as default based on the flick switches. I literally tried everything I could think of, but this was the only way I could get it to work 🤦

@@mints4us that’s correct, my original one now works by connecting in a random cheap one, and ensuring switches are in the right position to use the original one, not the cheap one. Obviously if you don’t have one built in, you can wire a read and forward facing one into the unit. But by having those on, you don’t get any use of the original camera, not even with the car play unit off. No idea why, but a lot of experimenting gave me that conclusion.

Meanwhile Renault have wireless CarPlay as standard in their cars and the use of google maps is a genius move for navigation. Even the cruise control can be set to match the speed limit wherever you are. JLR is decades behind in their design of cars

It works via wifi, not Bluetooth. But I use usb, as I don’t get phone signal where I live, so need the wifi to set up destination before leaving

To get the original rear camera to work you need to fit a piggyback fuse loom to fuse number 11 on the fuse box in the glovebox and connect it to the orange wire on the main loom supplied with the unit.
