Incredibly helpful video. I was losing my mind with these instructions and this helped confirm that I wasn't in fact crazy but just dealing with the most unhelpful set of instructions ever printed.
Bali desperately needs to start over with their installation instructions!!! I purchased 13 roller shades with the valances. They emailed and provided their written instructions, and then had me go onto their web site to watch a video. However, they don't have a video of installing an inside mount on these shades or one that includes the valance! HUH??? Also, just to add to what you have compiled, the end caps for the contour valance should be used even on an inside mount to finish the edge and possibly fill in any gaps if you happen to have excess. I recommend centering your roller shades and using these caps.

Thank you Cliff! I initially stumbled through these instructions, much as you did. I then went to RU-vid thinking someone must have gone through this mess before me. And there you were! Thanks again for being a good guide. By the way, that contour valance should have come with separate end caps that finish the edges so its looks ok if it protrudes beyond the window trim.
Good tip on the 1/4" hole through the valance to allow for some play. I too noticed right away that the bottom of the shade was covering the part that clips in so the paper would have to be removed first! And that the first steps would not be the first steps if you were installing with the valance.
Best video on youtube! I did what you said step by step. Great call. The only difference is I had to add one anchor to each side, which slowed me down a bit.
Bought a bali about 2020 roller solar shade “smart pull” w contour valance. Very difficult instructions, Bali has included all different shade/valance types in the instructions. It is not clear which steps go with your specific shade & valance. I needed to change the smart pull shade as the mechanism stopped working. I wanted to hire the pro installer instead of reinstalling myself. I was sent the shade from Lowes BUT they (Springs & Lowes) told me I wasn’t allowed an installer list to hire one BECAUSE I installed my initial shade myself. To make matters worse they send out a new shade & valance which is now in 2 pieces (dust cover plus count our balance) instead of the 1 piece initially sent. I wanted to use the dust cover already drilled & mount the new valance. ( my 1sr valance has air bubbles under the fabric in areas, 2nd looks better. NEVER AGAIN BALI!
How important is it to have the bracket mounted 2’’ in from the edge of the valance? My window is 32’’ wide, tops. Why can’t they be in 3’’ or 4’’ say? Does not matter if you ask me.
thanks a lot for this video. I need to install 8 of these and have been scratching my head figuring out the instructions and your video helps a ton!! Quick question, they sent me 2 set of screws (hex and regular), but the instructions don't mention which ones to use. Wondering which one you ended up using?
Looks like they changed the metal brackets to plastic that snap into the upper valance as of August 2022. Still awful directions. I am hoping to find someone with the new hardware. Also the shade/blind is now anchored only by the sides by heavy duty brackets.
I’m not sure about the depth. I solved the depth problem by moving the screw locations. I did trip the length of the valance about 1/4 of an inch as I recall in order to make it fit.
@@CliffBray1 After digging further it looks like Bali changed their contour valance sometime around 2021. Unmodified they have a depth of 4 5/16 where they used to be 3 1/8 like the ones you show in the video. I found this in spec documents on blindsexpress. One dated 2019 and one dated 2021 That seems like a really terrible change if you want to flush mount with standard 3" depths. Oh well. I ordered them and will see if I can modify them. I'll report back here in case someone else runs into this.
