Watching this because i needed a quick lesson on how to lay carpet and vinyl, such a great video, I've learnt a lot. Also quite therapeutic to watch them perfectly fitting it!
Interesting but a Voice over would be nice. My biggest problem with carpet,.keeping it clean and free of water damage. I prefer wood or faux wood floors and throw rugs. Easier to clean.
Nice and thanks for the video! I am looking at coming from the cleaning side to take on some busier work in the winter time by install. How long have you guys been in the business for?
It was a great video but it would of been more helpful if you named the items and products being used in the video. Like for instance what was put down before you installed the carpet.
The tube was just an industrial multipurpose / surface adhesive for the tack strips. Your floor has to be dust/dirt free, to use it. The stuff in the 5 gallon tub is an industrial grade glue that just keeps the pad in place. The splicing is way beyond me. That’s good stuff! You want to make sure your floor is dry and doesn’t leech water. It might need to be sealed. Ask a pro before you go all in, good luck!
Please just use pad adhesive instead of carpet glue.. it is such a pain having scrape/tear out pad when the wrong application is used. And pad glue is faster and easier to use. Either spray or can glue is much better for everyone
Where is the vapor barrier???? Where is the moisture from the concrete going? In the pad, that’s where. There begins the mold, and mildew smell. Not good guys.. No bueno..👎🏽
Really the pad can go down with almost anything, some guys use spray contact cement or Cove Base or wall base adhesive I often use whatever is left over that needs to be used before it expires. It just needs to hold the pad in place during the stretching process. Yes on stainmaster
It doesn't look like you used a moisture barrier pad. Isn't it better for mold on concrete? Why not float it instead of glue it down? Working on my basement now and want carpet but worried about moisture.
moisture resistant pad is always a good thing. This house was built only a foot out of the ground and had floor heat. they won't likely have issues with moisture. When you talk float are you referring to the carpet or the pad. I don't float the pad because it would move around while installing the carpet and I don't float the carpet because it is a stretched in product. you can float a small room of carpet if it is not on any pad. Hope that helps
We do it in UK aswell all depends on the carpets and the areas it goes dwn on the problem with it is if you change 1 room to different carpets you'll have problems with removing the seam tape
Sowhen you install your pad, you never pad seam in the main doorway due to the fact is when you install your carpet that’s where you pull your main stretch from and you risk that seam or the pad either pulling apart or bubbling under the carpet. So this is why you take a full piece of pad and you drop it from the main doorway to the opposite side of the room and you could pull it back and drop it in the closet and have it one piece that way or you could drop it from the doorway drop it into the closet, cut it halfway and then install another piece of pad in the closet but that pad seam should never be in the main doorway and it should be on the opposite side of the room by that window as well as the carpet seam. The whole theory about the same as two key factors one you keep the seam away from any major walkways due to significant wear and tear number two you keep it away from the lighting, and you hide it on the darker side of the room so the seam cannot be seen at all.
Done right. Power stretched. Just watched 6 dudes on you tube giving tutorials on knee kicking in basements. Everything has to be power stretched. You can't give a knee kicker tutorial on you tube and have it work. Knee kicking takes a lot of practice.
Why glue strip instead of pounding it with nails ? Glue very rarely holds strip down when I stretch good ! ole 5/8 concrete nails do the trick Great job though !!
It keeps the pad from moving when you are stretching the carpet. We probably used more adhesive than was necessary but it won't be an issue in the future
@@mrfantum1 whats the purpose of those wooden strips you laif out? Looked like an outline but woukdnt you just use the walls as an outline? Also what if there is trim at bottom of walls?just measure and lay to butt against edge of trim? Thanks
that's all fine and dandy. but with your strip that close to the rough opening of the doors, you just made it virtually impossible for the next crew, or you guys to remove the carpet whenever customer changes carpet down the road.. plus I'd hate to be the one to have remove that pad...
Difficulty with the English language? What’s with the silent treatment. No matter how excellent the camera work is, no matter how talented the craftsman is, a “how to” instructional video will always be better with verbiage.
All that glue under the underlay is so unnecessary, it makes it a nightmare for the next person that has to lay it. You can simply use contact adhesive spray or latex under the joins, the underlay is going nowhere and it’s a lot quicker and you won’t have to waste time folding the underlay after you get in place.
Where is the moisture barrier? Where is the moisture (water) from the concrete going to go? The padding, that’s where. Not good! Use a good brand moisture barrier, on carpet or wood floors. Do it professionally.👍🏼 If the customer don’t pay for it, then it’s on them!
How not to install on concrete floor. You should be using a vapour barrier underlay, and there,s no need to glue down all that underlay. There are nails for concrete tack strips as well. Have mercy on whoever rips that up 5-10 years from now..
This is all for show youv made a honestly simple job look over complicated with the saw to cut the grips and using trowel glue for the underlay.. spray adhesive would cost fraction of the price and do just as gd of a job and the industrial looking stretcher 😂 lik I said all for show.. job look well though 😉👍 and that's all the counts at the end of the day
Same here!!! Christian installer!! Canadian too eh? Lol....i want to come down south and so some jobs so badly...looking into what i need to get as far as bank account/passports etc.
