Welcome to my RU-vid channel. This channel is the home for all your vintage Mid-Year Corvette content. In today's video I am installing the front and rear suspension on a 1963 Corvette convertible. I worked on this car 2 years ago and now its back for several rounds of work. The first round is the mechanical work. My friend is upgrading the suspension with aftermarket springs and shocks. He also changed the trailing arms for 65-82 trailing arms as well as the front spindles and hubs to 69-82. This will allow him to run stock 65-82 disc brakes or allow him to run aftermarket discs rather than the conversion disc brake system. If you need to replace your trailing arms this is the way to go. Enjoy the video!
I just finished restoring a 1963 Corvette Split Window and I am starting another split window build but this time its a race car build. I will be making videos every Friday. I will be making videos on my 1963 Corvette Split Window, my dad's 1965 Corvette, my race car split window build, my friends 1960 Corvette, and other projects that I find along the way. Let me know what you think about the video. Enjoy!!
If you are interested in an official MYM hat or if you have any questions please send me an email to midyearmitch@gmail.com.
Check out my Instagram for some behind the scenes pics of my builds.

I've done several Corvette suspensions, and those trailing arm bolts are a real pain to get out of our rusty cars in Ohio. I've done Corvairs too, which are very similar, but have a slotted bracket on the trailing arm to set the rear toe with. Much easier than using shims.... I also use save a spares on the cars I paint. The inset makes doing body and prep work a breeze.

Oh yeah those bolts aren’t fun to get out. That’s a good call about the alternative shims.

I've been following this car on IG. Excited to see it coming together! Maybe you can create a split window soft top for it! lol

That'd definitely be an interesting idea! I think my short term plan is just to pick up a clean factory hardtop and have the soft top frame gone through at some point down the line.

@@huntersmith2921 I'll keep an eye out for a hardtop for you. They pop up frequently, but most are priced stupid high! There will be some bargains but you have to jump on them quickly....

It’s going to be going home soon. It’s well on its way to becoming a car.

Hey there Mitch, Nice video. I had not seen a C2 suspension install before. Next time, at least wrap a chain or cable around the coil springs to prevent them from firing across the garage. Those spring compressors are made of pure chinesium and should not be trusted. Remember, coil springs want to kill you! Take care and be safe, Dan

Hey Dan thanks for the tip about the chain. Yeah you can’t trust some of those import tools. The C2 suspensions aren’t bad to install. Especially if all the hard work is done by someone else 😂

Darn I really liked those rims and tires. Mitch this video is a definite keeper. Sure looks easier to do without the body. How much if any will the springs change the ride height? It's Memorial Day weekend let's all hoist a glass to those who didn't come home.

Haha the donuts are handy. I’m not sure how much the springs will change the ride height. Once the car is done then we will be able to tell. It needs a ton of weight added still. Absolutely happy Memorial Day and we can never forget the ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Another great video Mitch , I see the frame has a removable transmission support , I'm about to pull the motor on my 65 .I have never pulled a motor on a C2 , Many C1's . Can I pull the motor and 4 spd. tranny together like I always did on a C1 ? That rear tranny mount is solid in the frame , is it advisable to drop trany out first . I would like tyo pull them together and install together . What would you do ? Thanks Mitch .
@MidYearMitch
@MidYearMitch 2 года назад
Thanks Bob! You can pull them out together but you need to remove the hood, radiator, rad support, and then you should be able to carefully remove it. It also helps to remove the harmonic balanced pulley.

Do you use Loctite on any of the bolts? Do you recommend using it?
@MidYearMitch
@MidYearMitch 2 года назад
I’ve used loctite on the half shaft flange bolts because you don’t want those backing off lol. But you could probably use it on all of them.

Was wondering about the 78 trailing arms. Was this for disk brake install and does it allow for a bigger tire back there? Or was it just what you had on hand or for some other reason than after market?
@huntersmith2921
@huntersmith2921 2 года назад
Hey William, I chose to use the '78 trailing arms as I wanted to convert the rear to discs, and Mitch had those arms and spindles from his Misfit build. The factory 65-82 rear arms should all be about the same. I do think that swapping off of drum brake arms may allow for a little more tire under the quarter panels, but I couldn't imagine that to be much. I may eventually switch over to an aftermarket offset trailing arm, but these should serve their purpose well for a while.

It makes me a little grumpy that you don't provide links to each of the components you installed. I mean, great... you installed a composite leaf spring (for instance). How about "a link in the description" so I can investigate this exact product? ...grumble.
