What a phantastic work! I am myself a certified car mechanic and thinking about doing such a restoration. Not sure yet, if and how expensive that would become over here in Switzerland. Parts and shipping might overstretch budget....
Hey Mitch, great video. I really enjoyed the suspension and brake assembly details. I'll probably re-watch and slow it down this time :-) Keep up the good work, my friend.
O-Ring seals are an upgrade? News to me. I know it is commonly believed O-Ring seals are superior, but practice shows they leak too. Drive the car is the best to keep seals from leaking.
Excellent work as always today, Mitch! I'm interested to see what wheel/tire combination you select. I'm looking at Torq Thrust D's for my C2 but (as you know) the midyears don't have much room for increasing wheel/tire size w/o altering the car. This has really become an addictive video series! Great job with the mechanical work AND video making!
Thanks Dr Lee you are too kind. I’m also looking at torque thrusts. I’ll probably get 17” or 18” diameter wheels. I can fit 7” wide on the front and 8” wide on the back. I have to figure out the back spacing and what tire to run. I’ll definitely make a video on how everything fits and when I pull the trigger and order them. Hopefully summit has a 4th of July sale.
Nice work as always young man! Thumbs up! Some comments (based upon actual track experience -- not sure if you are planning to track the car): 1. I ran those brake pads and they melted/faded. Not trackworthy. They feel great on the street though. 2. Not a fan of drilled rotors on track. Big cracks always start there. They look great and work fine on the street. 3. You can add zerks to your control arm bushings. See www.trackjunkies.org/topic/7321-what-did-i-do/?do=findComment&comment=122633 4. Gird yourself for removing those front springs again to set ride height. I'm doing that today. I'll be using your spring compressor through the shock mount method! Thank you. What's up with that gas pedal? What is it?
Thanks Rick! I appreciate the tips! This is stage 1 of the chassis/brake kit. I wanted to make some “cheap” upgrades and see how they compare to a stock car. Once I get comfortable with the car I want to lightly autocross it and push it harder. I’ll see how the parts do. For stage 2 I want to put either upgraded springs or coil overs on it with big wilwood brakes at all 4 corners. This way I can get a “stock” baseline, stage 1 baseline, and stage 2 baseline. I can compare all the data and see how much bang for the buck I really got. Good luck with the coil spring job.
@@MidYearMitch Don't forget to check the rules for whatever group you want to run with. Things like coilovers and Wilwood calipers may not be legal (they are not legal for groups like SVRA).
