Wow Elin, what a great job on my seats! I have so much respect for your skill on this rebuild of the seats. Tush recommended John Skinner to me so it was an easy choice. John Skinner was super easy to work with, he helped me in selecting these seat covers and kit made for my TR250 , I highly recommend them! Again thank you for doing this work for me!

Thank you Elin, most helpful. My 250 seat covers should arrive in the next couple of days. Your video I’m sure will be most helpful. Keep up the good work. Best Pete.

WOW, Elin! Thanks to you, I can now be an upholsterer. If only I had the gumption and patience to go with it! Great lessons!! Thank you.

Those diaphragms look nice. I replaced mine a few years ago with some from one of the usual suppliers and they promptly failed as soon as I sat in the seat. Hopefully you have better luck with those but I would keep the old ones because we all know how crappy modern rubber replacement parts for our cars are these days. Beautiful work though! Those will look great in that lovely 250!

Brilliant job Elin.. My elder brother used John Skinner car upholstery when he was doing up his Austin Healey 3000 and I remember him saying it was better quality than the original. He didn't attempt the job himself but got a bloke that restored antique furniture to do it for him. Had you and You Tube been around at the time he might have attempted himself it after your excellent tutorial on the subject.

Living in the UK probably at around the same latitude as you I really appreciate the Gulf Stream, here flowers are out and there is no way we're going to get snow even though it's been raining like hell for the past few months. Right now it's actually starting to look like Spring.

Fantastic job Elin. Trimming is another skill in itself. Here in the UK, good trimmers charge an absolute fortune. Another UK commenter says it is looking like spring here. I am in the north of England (West Yorkshire), and it LOOKS like Spring, but feels like winter. We have had frost for the last 2 nights and had sleet 2 days ago. The weather is bizarre nowadays that's for sure. I am always impressed and inspired by your work, but it is the way you think things through that sets you apart from others. The centring of the covers. piping position etc., really impressive work. The owner of that car could not have got a better job done anywhere.

You need a much bigger workshop for all your projects, I have seen upholsterers use a plastic bag on the foam back first and the cover is able to slide over the back much more easier. Nice job.

The Pirelli straps, staples and anchors look exactly like those on the Volvo 1800S seats which isn’t surprising as they were also UK made. Why your seats have come with them is odd, nevertheless they have good value to anyone redoing their 1800S seats so maybe advertise them on an Ontario 1800 owners club if you don’t find a use for them. Incidentally that roll of Pirelli is very expensive.

With the Spitfire outside the workshop does that mean you’re going to be able to get it up and running this year? Hope so for you! I’ve heard people suggest using net curtain material rather than plastic to assist fitting the back cover. That’d eliminate breathability concerns. Haven’t tried it myself though as I’ve only done one set of seats so far. For anyone looking for similarly high quality seat covers/foams for a squaretail Spitfire/GT6, Owen at Park Lane Classics (also in the U.K.) is the person to go for. They also come with very detailed instructions and step by step photos.

The Spitfire is up and running for years. It has an issue with the timing chain that I need to address, but other than that it is a driver.

@@RustyBeauties oh good, I thought you’d said at some point the timing chain was bad enough you weren’t driving it.

I love the look of leather seats in a Triumph, but how well do they handle the unexpected downpour, will they shrink or get hard?

LOL, I usually keep the Stella as a reward for the end of the day. Only when David is around and starts pulling diet coke from the fridge I get tempted to pop a Stella open during the day.

Curious question about the leather seats. Vinyl ones dont breathe and make me sweaty so i use beaded seat covers. Does leather breathe much better or is it about as hot and sweaty as vinyl?
@alanm.4298
@alanm.4298 4 месяца назад
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that the original leather trimmed seats from Triumph only had leather on the actual seating surface... that the perimeter and back were vinyl. Unfortunately I can't confirm one way or the other. Although my '62 TR4 was originally fitted with leather (according to the BMI Heritage certificate), it was long gone when I bought the car 14 or 15 years later.
@TR3A
@TR3A 4 месяца назад
You’re correct. The leather seats had leather on the facing and vinyl on the sides and back.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 4 месяца назад
Yes, you are correct, even though there were some exceptions. John Skinner has all that information on the website john-skinner.co.uk/models/triumph/tr5-tr250/

Sorry, but for me looks it wrong, the top of the seat had a small and a big side. I think the big side it out to the door and the small one inside to the other seat. Left and right are to swap?
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 4 месяца назад
It is done this way because of the shape of the body of the car. Even with the narrower bolster on the door side the backrest is very close to the frame for the soft top. Believe me, the way I did it is the right way and the only way possible.
