Is your inbuilt graphics card working?
@macintoshteam6657
@macintoshteam6657 Месяц назад
When installing OpenCore, ensuring that the built-in (integrated) graphics card works correctly is crucial, as it impacts the ability to boot and use the system effectively. Here’s how you can verify and troubleshoot the graphics card functionality when using OpenCore: ### Ensuring Built-in Graphics Card Functionality with OpenCore 1. **Verify Compatibility**: - Ensure your MacBook Pro (2014) model is compatible with OpenCore and macOS Sonoma. The 2014 MacBook Pro should be compatible, but double-checking never hurts. 2. **Correct OpenCore Configuration**: - Proper configuration of OpenCore is essential for the graphics card to work correctly. This includes setting the correct `DeviceProperties` for the integrated graphics card. ### Steps to Ensure Graphics Card is Working 1. **Prepare OpenCore Configuration**: - Open your `config.plist` file using ProperTree or another plist editor. 2. **Add Necessary Kexts**: - Ensure you have `Lilu.kext` and `WhateverGreen.kext` in your EFI partition under `EFI/OC/Kexts`. These kexts are critical for graphics functionality. - Add these kexts to your `config.plist` under the `Kernel -> Add` section. 3. **Configure Device Properties**: - Under `DeviceProperties`, add the following properties for the integrated graphics card: ```xml PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0) AAPL,ig-platform-id AAABAQ== ``` 4. **Add Boot Arguments**: - In the `NVRAM -> Add -> boot-args` section, ensure you have the following arguments: ``` -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 alcid=1 ``` - These arguments enable verbose mode (`-v`) for detailed boot information and `alcid=1` if you need audio support. Adjust `alcid` based on your audio configuration if necessary. 5. **SMBIOS Settings**: - Set the correct SMBIOS for your MacBook Pro. For a 2014 MacBook Pro, the SMBIOS should be set to `MacBookPro11,3` (for the 15-inch model). You can set this in the `PlatformInfo -> Generic` section of your `config.plist`. ### Testing and Troubleshooting 1. **Boot in Verbose Mode**: - Restart your Mac and hold down the `Command + V` keys to boot in verbose mode. This will show detailed boot information and help identify where the process might be failing. 2. **Check OpenCore Debug Output**: - Enable debugging in OpenCore by setting `Misc -> Debug -> Target` to `67` (output to screen and log file) in your `config.plist`. This will provide more detailed logs during the boot process. 3. **Reset PRAM/NVRAM**: - Sometimes, resetting PRAM/NVRAM can resolve hardware initialization issues. Restart your Mac and hold down `Option + Command + P + R` for about 20 seconds. ### Steps If the Screen Stays Blank 1. **Double-check Connections and Ports**: - Ensure the USB drive is properly connected and try different USB ports if necessary. 2. **Verify OpenCore Version**: - Make sure you are using the latest version of OpenCore, as updates often fix compatibility issues. 3. **Rebuild the Installer**: - If the issue persists, consider rebuilding the OpenCore installer from scratch, carefully following the OpenCore guide to ensure all steps are followed correctly. If you continue to experience issues, providing more specific details about your `config.plist` setup and any error messages observed during the verbose boot can help further diagnose the problem. You can also seek assistance from the OpenCore community, which is very active and knowledgeable about these kinds of issues.

So what if inbuilt graphics card didn't work so how can I make it working?
@macintoshteam6657
@macintoshteam6657 Месяц назад
@@bankai3886 Yes, you can install OpenCore even if your built-in graphics card isn't working, though it might be challenging. Here are some steps you can follow to install OpenCore and potentially get your system up and running even with graphics issues: ### Steps to Install OpenCore Without a Working Graphics Card 1. **Create a Bootable USB Installer**: - Use another Mac to create a bootable USB installer with OpenCore and macOS Sonoma. Ensure you include necessary kexts like `WhateverGreen.kext` and `Lilu.kext`. 2. **Prepare OpenCore Configuration**: - On the other Mac, configure the `config.plist` properly, ensuring it includes settings that might help with graphics initialization. 3. **Boot in Verbose Mode**: - Add `-v` to the boot arguments to boot in verbose mode. This helps you see what's happening during boot and can give you clues about what might be going wrong. 4. **Try Basic Graphics Mode**: - Add the boot argument `-igfxvesa` to force basic VESA graphics mode, which can work if more advanced graphics settings are failing. 5. **Use External Display**: - If you have an external monitor, try connecting it to see if it displays anything. Sometimes, external displays can work even if the built-in screen doesn't. ### Detailed Instructions 1. **Create Bootable USB with OpenCore**: - On another Mac, download the macOS Sonoma installer from the App Store. - Follow the OpenCore guide to create a bootable USB installer: - Download OpenCore and extract it to your USB drive. - Add necessary kexts (`Lilu.kext`, `WhateverGreen.kext`) to the `EFI/OC/Kexts` directory. - Use ProperTree or another plist editor to configure `config.plist` appropriately. 2. **Configure `config.plist`**: - Add `Lilu.kext` and `WhateverGreen.kext` to the `Kernel -> Add` section. - Set `AAPL,ig-platform-id` to a value appropriate for your MacBook Pro (e.g., `0x0A160000`). ```xml DeviceProperties PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0) AAPL,ig-platform-id AAABAQ== ``` - Add the following boot arguments in `NVRAM -> Add -> boot-args`: ``` -v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 alcid=1 -igfxvesa ``` 3. **Boot from USB Installer**: - Insert the USB installer into the target MacBook Pro. - Power on the Mac and immediately hold down the Option key to enter the Startup Manager. - Select the USB drive to boot from it. 4. **Monitor Verbose Output**: - Watch the verbose output for any clues about what might be causing the issue. If the screen remains blank, note whether there are any error codes or specific points where the boot process halts. 5. **Reset NVRAM/PRAM**: - Sometimes resetting NVRAM/PRAM can resolve boot issues: - Shut down the Mac. - Hold down `Option + Command + P + R` for about 20 seconds. - Release the keys and let the Mac restart. 6. **Check External Monitor**: - If possible, connect an external monitor to see if it displays any output. Some issues with the built-in display might not affect an external display. ### If Issues Persist 1. **Recheck Configuration**: - Ensure all necessary kexts and configurations are correct. Refer to the [Dortania OpenCore Install Guide](dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/) for detailed steps specific to your Mac model. 2. **Seek Help from the Community**: - Post your `config.plist` and any verbose boot logs to forums like [Reddit's r/hackintosh](www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/) or [InsanelyMac](www.insanelymac.com/forum/). The community can often provide specific advice based on your setup. 3. **Consider a Fresh Start**: - If the problem remains unsolved, consider starting from scratch with a new USB installer, ensuring each step is followed meticulously. By following these steps, you should be able to install OpenCore and potentially get your system working even if the built-in graphics card is currently non-functional. If you encounter specific errors or issues, providing detailed information will help in troubleshooting further.

@macintoshteam6657 5 месяцев назад
Great question! Ventura and Sonoma are both excellent choices, and the decision depends on your specific needs and preferences. Ventura is based on macOS Monterey, providing a stable experience with the latest features. Sonoma, on the other hand, is typically associated with macOS Big Sur, offering a balance of performance and features. As for guidance on the 'best' macOS, it often depends on your hardware compatibility and personal preferences.

External display working properly ?
@macintoshteam6657
@macintoshteam6657 5 месяцев назад
The functionality of an external display after installing OpenCore is generally dependent on various factors, including the specific hardware, graphics drivers, and compatibility of the macOS version you are installing. OpenCore itself is a bootloader and doesn't directly impact the external display functionality. However, the macOS version you install using OpenCore might have drivers or updates that could affect external display compatibility. Here are a few things to consider: Graphics Drivers: Ensure that the graphics drivers for your specific hardware are compatible with the macOS version you are installing. If your external display is not working as expected, it might be worth checking for updated graphics drivers. macOS Compatibility: Verify that the macOS version you are installing (e.g., Ventura, Sonoma) supports your MacBook Pro model and external display. Some macOS updates may include changes that affect external display behavior. System Preferences: After the installation, check the System Preferences on macOS to configure and detect external displays. Go to "Apple Menu" > "System Preferences" > "Displays" to manage display settings. Community Support: If you encounter issues, community forums or support channels related to OpenCore, Ventura, or Sonoma can be valuable resources. Others who have similar hardware configurations may share their experiences and solutions. Check Cables and Connections: Ensure that your cables and connections are secure and that the external display is powered on. Sometimes, simple physical issues can affect display functionality. It's important to thoroughly research and understand the compatibility and support status of the macOS version, OpenCore, and any other tools you are using with your specific MacBook Pro model and external display setup.

@macintoshteam6657
@macintoshteam6657 5 месяцев назад
It sounds like you might be encountering an issue during the installation process. Here are some steps you can try: Verify Compatibility: Ensure that your MacBook Pro 5,4 (2009) is compatible with Ventura or Sonoma. Check the system requirements and make sure your device meets them. Check Installation Media: If you're using a USB drive or another installation medium, make sure it's properly created and free of errors. Re-create the installation media if needed. Boot Settings: Access the boot menu on your MacBook Pro during startup (usually by holding down the Option key) and ensure you're selecting the correct installation drive. Boot Flags: During the bootloader (like OpenCore) screen, you may need to use specific boot flags to address issues. Consult the documentation for Ventura or Sonoma, as well as the OpenCore documentation, for guidance on suitable boot flags. Update OpenCore: If you're using OpenCore, make sure you're using the latest version. Updates might include fixes for compatibility issues. Community Support: Check forums or communities dedicated to Ventura, Sonoma, or OpenCore for your specific MacBook Pro model. Others may have encountered and resolved similar issues. Diagnostic Tools: If possible, use diagnostic tools to identify any potential hardware issues. MemTest86, for example, can help you check your RAM for errors. Revert to Previous macOS: If the installation continues to be problematic, consider reverting to the previous macOS version that was working on your MacBook Pro. Remember to back up your data before making any significant changes to your system. If the issue persists, reaching out to the community or the developers of Ventura or Sonoma for specific support related to your MacBook Pro model would be beneficial.

If your Mac Pro 5,1 is encountering an error and looping back during an update, it could be due to various reasons. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue: Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your Mac Pro is connected to a stable internet connection. Sometimes, a poor or intermittent internet connection can cause update failures. Restart Your Mac: Try restarting your Mac Pro and attempting the update again. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve temporary issues. Download Update Manually: If the update is being performed through the Mac App Store or System Preferences, try downloading the update manually from Apple's website. Sometimes, direct downloads can bypass issues encountered through the automatic update process. Check Disk Space: Ensure that your Mac Pro has enough free disk space to complete the update. If your disk is almost full, the update process may fail. Reset SMC and NVRAM: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory (NVRAM) can sometimes resolve update-related issues. Instructions for resetting the SMC and NVRAM can be found on Apple's support website. Run Disk Utility: Use Disk Utility to check and repair your disk for any errors. Boot into Recovery Mode by holding down Command + R during startup, then open Disk Utility and run First Aid on your Mac's startup disk. Check for Software Compatibility: Ensure that the update you're trying to install is compatible with your Mac Pro model. Sometimes, attempting to install an incompatible update can cause errors. Perform a Clean Install: If all else fails, you may need to perform a clean install of macOS. Backup your important data, erase your Mac's disk, and reinstall macOS from scratch. This can resolve any underlying software issues that may be causing the update failure. If you're still unable to resolve the issue after trying these steps, you may need to contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store for further assistance. They can provide more advanced troubleshooting steps or help you determine if there's a hardware issue with your Mac Pro. maybe this video can help you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oeXcSRMecZk.html

I love this video when I got to EFI boot I clicked it and it timed out. It went through the motions and nothing happened. So disappointed 😢. Is it because my 2010 MacBook Pro only has 8 gigs of ram ???
@macintoshteam6657
@macintoshteam6657 2 месяца назад
I'm sorry to hear that you encountered difficulties with the EFI boot process in the video. The timeout issue you experienced might not be directly related to the amount of RAM in your 2010 MacBook Pro, but it could be a contributing factor along with other aspects of your system's configuration. While 8GB of RAM is on the lower side for running certain tasks, it should generally be sufficient for basic operations. However, if your MacBook Pro is running other applications or processes in the background, it could potentially impact performance, including the EFI boot process. Here are a few steps you could consider to troubleshoot the issue: Check System Resources: Before attempting the EFI boot process again, ensure that your MacBook Pro isn't running any unnecessary applications or processes that could consume memory or CPU resources. Restart Your MacBook Pro: Sometimes, simply restarting your system can help clear any temporary issues that might be affecting performance. Review EFI Boot Process: Double-check the steps you followed during the EFI boot process to ensure they were performed correctly. It's possible that a misstep or oversight could have caused the timeout. Internet Connection: If the EFI boot process involves downloading files or accessing online resources, ensure that your internet connection is stable and functioning properly. Seek Community Support: Consider reaching out to forums or communities dedicated to macOS installation on unsupported hardware. Others may have encountered similar issues and could offer advice or solutions. Regarding your question about RAM, while 8GB might not be ideal for some tasks, it shouldn't directly cause the EFI boot process to time out. However, it's worth considering as part of the overall system configuration. I hope these suggestions help you resolve the issue and successfully complete the EFI boot process. If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to ask! maybe this video can help you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oeXcSRMecZk.html

Everytime I do this install it locks up on the final part of the install, staying stuck at a progress bar and a black screen.

I tried to install Ventura on a iMac 2011 but the Wi-Fi wasn’t working so I downgraded it back to High Sierra anyone willing to help

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with Opencore Sonoma and your iMac 2011. It sounds frustrating not being able to download the necessary files due to the spinning circle issue on the website. As for your Wi-Fi problem with Ventura on your iMac, it might be related to compatibility issues or missing drivers. Have you checked if there are updated drivers available for your Wi-Fi chipset that might work with Ventura?

Installed Sonoma and cannot connect to WiFi even after trying EVERY suggested option from several sources! No longer an Apple fan boy! They suck!

My wifi wasn't working on initial setup. It started working automatically after a restart

I understand the frustration you're facing with the WiFi issues after installing Sonoma. It might be worth trying a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if it helps. Restart your Mac and, during startup, hold down Command (⌘) + Option + P + R until you hear the startup sound again. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues. If the problem persists, it's crucial to ensure that the installation process didn't leave any residual files causing conflicts. Make sure to double-check your system settings and files. For a more comprehensive clean-up, you may consider reinstalling macOS Sonoma from scratch, ensuring a clean slate.

You don't need to erase your Mac, but it is recommended.

Absolutely! While it's technically possible to install OpenCore without erasing your Mac, I do recommend it for a smoother installation process. In my video, I highlight that it's not mandatory but rather beneficial for ensuring a clean and trouble-free installation. Feel free to follow along with my guide, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
