I wanted nothing more in my entire life than to live in a beautiful cabin with a wood-burning stove a nice garden and a few chickens and a couple of nice dogs. Maybe one day my dream will come true. Thank you for sharing this installation and first fire. Wish I were there.❤
I want the same thing but I know I'll never be able to afford my own land so I'm building a tiny home trailer and going to just rent some land from a friend on ten acres. Then once I start living cheaper hopefully eventually I can save up for my own land.
Most people won't understand why we get so excited about a wood stove. What a beauty. I especially love the bypass for the catalytic combuster. Every season I get anxious to light my cabin stove . Love the heat. Have a great week Chuck. Thanks for sharing
With that large glass door that fire will be so nice at night, being able to see the flame is so relaxing and heartwarming. Love what you have accomplished so far.
Man, that first burn. Its hard to explain that to People who dont have ,or have never used, wood stoves . And the cabin is coming along very nicely ! Thanks for taking us along sir.
Beautiful installation Mr porter all about staying warm during those long winter night's think I'm going to look in to one for our cottage in northern Georgian bay in Ontario thank you and stay warm
Oh heck yeah!! South Mississippi here. Had a Buck 81 installed in our old house the day before thanksgiving last year. I thought it would never get cold!! HAAA!!! I started accumulating my firewood a year in advance. Like a kid at Christmas. Loved the video!! Thanks for sharing!!
I bought a Blaze King - Chinook 20. I can confirm, I was burning 50% less wood per season than my standard Air tight I had before. Can't say enough great things about Blaze King! Also, Canadian Made!
PWR sports has all my favorites. Wish we had an everything store in Alaska. Thanks for the videos. I enjoy watching after a hard days work at the cabin building and prepping for winter.
Great stove Chuck. You could get an Eco Fan to set on your stove to circulate the heat. It requires no electricity and you can use it in the hot tent too. Happy to be following along
I really enjoyed this video! I'm developing our 40 acres in northern Idaho. My shop is up and I have a wood stove set up in it. I bought a less expensive woodstove for the shop. We'll buy a much nicer one for the house! For the shop stove, one thing I did was to set stove pipe on it and lit the first three break-in fires in it outdoors. Those burns cured the paint and burned off the manufacturing oils, which left the smells and smoke from a new stove outside before installing it. Winter is upon us here and while we won't see the low temp's you will, it's still cold. There is snow on the ground outside as I write this!
What a great video. It is wonderful to see a nice relaxed demonstration from start to finish on how to work with a Blaze King stove. One observation I have is that the by-pass door has a latching click when it is closed. In the video you just let it rest in the closed position. If you pushed on the handle a little bit, when in the closed position, you would have heard it click. This is the sound that tells you that the by-pass door is not only closed but latched. Again a wonderful delivery and demonstration.
Thanks for your input!!! I did not realize that you could “lock” in the bypass door! I tried it right after reading your comment!! Thanks for the tip. I’ve been burning it non-stop ever since and am already in love with it!! Thanks for making such a beautiful and trustworthy product👍👍
I was going to say the same thing. We have had our Ashford 30 for three years now and we love it. You also have to make sure you open the by pass before opening the glass door to prevent smoke from entering the cabin.
Hey Chuck, bought the same stove last year. Heats my 3200 square ft. home without missing a beat. Filling it up once a day right now in the shoulder season. Worth every penny imo.
Howdy Chuck. You are absolutely right about lighting a fire in a woodstove for the first time. Absolutely a beauty of a stove you have their!! Keep up the amazing work. Coming along fantastic! Thanks again for your RU-vid channel!! Loves it Cheers Steph
Good job again , I watched this video 9 months ago , started watching your content over again like I said before I have the same stove you explained it perfectly that’s exactly how it works and it works great , I don’t always leave a comment but I love all your content, keep up the good work you give me a lot of good ideas I live on a 12 acre piece of bush land with two quarters of land to hunt and your so right we get 6 months of winter. Keep up the good videos.
I have watched numerous stove and pipe installations and this seemed to be very easy. It always looks easier when you watch instead of having to do the install yourself but still it looked simple.
You could get 2 water heaters and strip them down to bare metal and put one on each side. Fill them with an antifreeze fluid. They will get warm and keep your house warmer a lot longer.
I'm getting my brand new one on the 12th of September. There's nothing better than being able to watch the 🔥 on a freezing winter night, and feeding that there fire when you get up to go deer hunting. I don't particularly care if I get a deer every day, but I do care about being in my hunting cabin at night with a good old fire. My old stove done gave up the ghost, and this one ought to last the rest of my days.
I just installed my Blaze King Ashford stove. Been over a year since I ordered it, took 8 months to manufacture stove from time or order. Even tho I am NOT excited about winter approaching (NYS Adirondack Foothills, gets down to -20f or so) I AM excited about my first fire in new unit. My old stove was a non-airtight Dover coal/wood stove and packed full of good hardwood I could get maybe 4 or 5 hours and it has always been cold in the morning. I am hoping to save wood and not be cold in the morning with this new stove. Also bought a WarpFive sterling engine fan...............can't wait to try that also.
Really enjoying following along with your dream build! I also burn full time in my home. I would be very interested in seeing how you make out with the stove long term. Hopefully an honest review on how you made out with maintenance of the catalyst and how long it lasts before replacement is needed in your case. Awesome progress, everything looks amazing!
Chuck I like your stove, BUT....... I love your Toller. What a humdinger! I had one for fifteen years, 'Sammy' the wonder dog. You will never regret your new friend. Keep well.
Congratulations Chuck! Blaze King has been a top stove for years. Definitely an investment that most likely will be warming your grandchildren. We also heat with wood. We're traveling now but im looking forward to having the first fire of the season when we return in November. Be well. Good journeys. Happy trails!
Congratulations on the cabin. Done the same in 21. Love it. I probably would of run another section of double wall just to keep the heat off the ceiling. I done pine board’s and kept the single wall back 20” just to be safe.
You are right about the feeling of the wood stove install. We put ours in last year, when we added a sunroom to our home. This install enabled us to heat with wood all winter. My dream stove was a Hearthstone soapstone stove. I was blessed to find one used for $600. I love it.
Good job on the install , I have that exact stove works great makes a big difference with the fans I’ve noticed, I know exactly what your saying it’s so exiting to install a wood stove , I also have the big blaze king it still burns the smoke but a more simple system, I’ve had it for 34 years , they are very good stoves , thanks for that video keep up the good work
Hello Chuck, a very nice video. Your oven, is very beautiful. This one works with internal recirculations and a bypass control. Very old and nothing new in the industry. I recommend you, especially the parts and gaps, which you do not see, from time to time, to check and clean. When cleaning inside, it starts, because the gaps are not very wide. A beautiful and good furnace, however, without maintenance it does not work so well. I can tell you so, with over 40 umpteen years, experience in the combustion technology, one has for various points a view. Greetings from Frankfurt
Super pumped for you and this stove Chuck! Keep me posted…… perhaps it’s time to upgrade the cast iron fisher papa bear stove at our off grid property. Enjoy!!!
Hi Chuck, I understand your excitement with the installation of a wood stove. I haven't had the pleasure of enjoying wood heat for nearly 30 years, since I left Newfoundland. Enjoy!
I bought a Blaze King Queen back in the '80's. I put a single wall flue up to the ceiling. The stove along with the single wall flue sucked out so much heat into the house, on a cold morning, the smoke was white, like it was steam and barely crested the chimney and then crawled down the outside of the chimney down to the roof. Downside was the flue inside the house only lasted one burn season as it got eaten through. In colder parts of CA, I got away with using only one cord of good hardwood.
I’m estimating 4 cords for me a winter. Which is down from the 5 I would burn in my old stove. The control of the blaze king is my favourite feature. Literally tuning it to the degree I want, and burning that 20% less wood. I burn mainly spruce and larch, supplemented with a little bit of birch every now and then
@@ChuckPorterEverythingOutdoors I think those are low density firewoods. I bet you could get away with 2 higher density varieties like black oak or what we call tan oak in our area.
There is nothing finer than a wood stove. I am lucky to be able to have one in my house. I would not part with it. I did the same with my wood stove. When you come in from the cold, the fire is cozy and the sound and smell of the fire is warming as well....awesome Chuck...really enjoying the build !!
Well Chuck...I can't agree with you more about the excitement of lighting up a new stove...nothing better than wood heat...beautiful stove and very efficient...gone are the days of a 45 gallon drum made into a stove haha.. the place looks awesome.. enjoy your dream home buddy 👍
Awesome stove Chuck! The efficiency is amazing. If you're going to outfit a place to live, you may as well spend the extra money for quality stuff. Looking forward to the next video!
Hello Chuck, I wanted to reach out and thank you for sharing all your adventures and experiences. You and your family are wonderfully entertaining and informative. I have introduced my class to your channel. They love it. I teach construction and woods classes at a senior high school in Minnesota. Thank you Sir, Kevin Norman
Hey Chuck! Ken here. Now that’s a fine stove. I like it. Any time I ever started a fire in a new stove I had to open all windows and doors. The paint on the stove burning off was bad. Same with new stove pipe. You’re sure gonna have a nice home.
What a dandy stove....you will be in money in the long run for sure....i'm a firm believer in the old saying "you get what you pay for ".... congratulations
Love it! We just put in a Lopi Rockport and love the dual burning process, first is burner tubes and then catalytic converter. This is our first wood stove and didnt know how much wood we'd be burning to heat our 1300 sqft 2 story house but so far Im impressed, temps. have ranged from 40's to single digits with the windchill and we can keep both levels anywhere from 76-72 with a simple exhaust fan in our bedroom window, its amazing and have only gone through just over 1/3 of a cord since the end of October. This has been one of the best investments we've made! Quick question, why didnt you put the stove in the corner facing the whole living room
It was due to a layout issue in reference to our wood box etc. also, the roof trusses would have been directly impacted if we had it in the corner. Finally, the hearth would not be symmetrical
Beautiful stove and cabin. I have the Blaze King Ashford insert and I love it. I’m like you. I find a lot of pleasure in a quality wood stove. Note: It may take more than one burn to fully cure the paint.
i love the blaze king line. i was looking at a princess for a long time but went with Jotul smaller non catalytic instead. its about as simple and reliable as a stove can get. if i ever decide to get another, it will be a blaze king. thanks for posting the video. love the cabin and location.
Now that's a stove... Up to 30 hrs of burn time.. amazing!! That is certainly the wood stove for a home. Enjoy your caveman TV, I can watch that channel for hrs.
