I like it accept the flap part next to the light even if it has some Logo to shine though for the reverse lights that makes a big unseen light for people when reversing out of a parking spot

this might be a dumb question.. can't u just use self tapers?
@balzarini51
@balzarini51 8 лет назад
I did the rustys fenders. I'll honestly trade the tail light guards to have fender flares made of 1/4". and I can just run jcr buckets when my plastic tail lights fall apart completely. they are half way gone anyways, held together with tape. and also the rustys set is cnc rolled to match the jeep. pros and cons I guess.
@balzarini51
@balzarini51 8 лет назад
the plate is is 3/16 and the flare is 1/4. I can lift my jeep with a highlift from the fenders now also.

I am not sure about the '97+ Cherokees, but could you not access the bottom bolts by removing the taillight housing? There are pretty generous slots for the harness behind the taillight housings on the '96 and prior that I used.

No they got it sealed up on the 97 plus. I know in the directions for the 96 and earlier they state to remove the tail lights for installation.

Do you think these quarter panels will work for a xj with trimmed fenders?
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 8 лет назад
+MrManofthewoods My fenders are trimmed under the bushwacker fender flares and they worked just fine for that. If they are trimmed more than that you may need to trim the OR fab quarter panels.

Do you have any info on your onboard air setup? Are you running lines through the jeep or do you just have it mounted there with a long hose to reach the wheels?
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 6 лет назад
I'm routed the airline in behind the panel which runs to the rear bumper that I built. The bumper itself holds 2.6 gallons I have a pressure regulator switch mounted to the bumper which shuts off I believe it was like 105 lb and there's also a one-way valve mounted just before the bumper. There are two hose connections one on each side of the bumper that are not visible.

This is a martinbuilt bumper ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5uYgkMwfuMk.html No I did not have to cut the rear quarters. Everything lined up perfectly.

i started installing these on a 97 2 door , first i dont like that they dont fit the tail lights like on older models, i put in the top bolts, there is a large gap at the hole near the lift gate, and the bottom there is a 1/2 inch gap , the bolts wont even reach. maybe the 2 door has more arch, im scared to try and bolt it
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 9 лет назад
***** as you tighten the center bolts it will flatten the body panel and the bottom bolts will reach. you may want to loosen the upper bolts a little. After getting all the bolts started then tighten.

Would pop rivets work or rivnuts

Did you have to trim your flares to get them to line up after the armor was on?
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 7 лет назад
Yes I did, the thickness of the metal.
@willparfet8912
@willparfet8912 7 лет назад
martinbuilt thanks. What would be the best way to trim the edges to fit?
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 7 лет назад
I used a sharp razor knife. Be careful and take a little off at a time
@willparfet8912

martinbuilt wow that sounds really tedious. I’ll have to go super slow. Did yours come with 3/8” rubber spacers? I’ve got eBay cheapos but they use bushwhacker directions that call for a 3/8” rubber spacer behind the flare that the screw goes through.
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 7 лет назад
yes my fender flares are Bushwackers and did come with the spacers

Ok so they are called "quarter panel GUARDS" yet you drilled right through the sheet metal of the quarter panel making permanent holes to install the guards. I think you already did some damage to the original panels. Were you going for rugged look or a functional purpose????? Say i rolled over the cherokee 3 times, n somehow damaged the roof top n probably everything else except the quarter panels, idk maybe even a vehicle slammed into my quarter panel, will it hold up? Why are the doors not protected, is not where passengers would most likely be??
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 6 лет назад
Gearz I did install the rear quarters because I did do damage to one of them. The only way to install them is to drill holes through the rear quarters. I was going for functionality. The reason you do the rear quarters is because they are vulnerable when rock crawling just as the rocker panels are. I don't feel I need to do the doors because if you notice the grinder bar or Nerf Bar on the lower rockers helps protect them as the grinding bar on the rear quarters helps protect the rear side window which is also vulnerable when rock crawling.
@forgedsteelwrench9249
@forgedsteelwrench9249 6 лет назад
martinbuilt i see your point. None the less your work is clean n videos informative but i have tobe honest with you, this seems only to protect a scuff but not so much structural. Idk but be honest, how tough is this really?
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 6 лет назад
Gearz If your into just mild rock crawling let's say a trail that is rated at a number 2 out of 5 no I probably wouldn't bother putting these on your vehicle cuz you'll never probably in that situation where you may damage your rear quarters. Personally I like my blue paint and like the body of the vehicle or seeing the body of the vehicle I don't like covering it up. These panels also add 57 pounds to the weight of the vehicle which is quite a bit. Also if I had these on here some time ago I would also saved the cost of another rear tail light that I did break on the driver side during rock crawling. Oh I think there very tough. Understand I only put the video out to show you how to install them I don't get anything for selling them and there are other manufacturers that make similar products. And I pondered between two of them before deciding on this set.
@forgedsteelwrench9249

martinbuilt paint on this is SUPER. Ill take your word on its toughness. You should try n shoot a vid. In a situation where this installation might come into play.

Why not just buy brand new rear quarter panel for probably the same price and it will look better aswell. No need protecting parts you can just buy cheap anyway.
@ryanf637
@ryanf637 5 лет назад
You obviously haven't ever took an xj out in some real trails the quarters are the most prone spot for damage so swapping for new ones would only mean next trip they were dented again..
@benthebuilder6934
@benthebuilder6934 2 года назад
Also what about paint? If you want to repaint your car everytime you have to fix a dent than that's fine. Maybe mall crawlers can take that route.
