Figured I might as well use this TV box for something other than a paperweight! With a Pentium M Processor, this box is a perfect candidate to be a Mac!

Interesting method I never seen anyone actually do this on the whole youtube(the method without removing the hdd) keep it it with more amazing clips!

this takes me back, I put Mac OS X 10.4 on my Apple TV 40gb 15 years ago.. it was a fun project I even had BOINC running on it at one point crunching for SETI @home.. amazing people are tinkering with this again.

It seems to have grown in popularity, since more and more of these TV boxes are becoming more and more obsolete. I guess people just want to get more use out of these things, which is cool, in my opinion!

@@MattsTech hmm, so I did it but it’s just booting into the regular os, the usb is recognized but isn’t booting, do you know the cause of this by chance?

You forgot to click the lock in superduper, thats why it was grayed/greyed out

I tried this and idk what I’m doing wrong but it just completely ignores the usb😢😢

Make sure to flag your USB as a recovery image, otherwise it’ll ignore it. There are guides online on how to do this.

Does modern Linux run at all? I've heard of a few 32 bit ports of main distros like arch.

From what I can gather, no, since the Apple TV has special firmware that only allows booting 32-bit EFI software, which nothing supports except macOS and tailor-made distros.
