Thanks for the video, since these use the same OEM mount points, wouldn’t they technically be as strong as the oem rails? What i mean is yes the steel bars are stronger but the Cherokee can still only hold 150lbs on the roof no matter what rails are installed?
I was also wondering what makes these stronger/better than the oem rails if they bolt in the same spot. Being that the cherokees are only rated for 150lbs on the rails anyways, how would sleeping in a rooftop tent be feasible since the combined weight of the tent and 1 or 2 people will surely be over 150lbs? I'd like to outfit my Cherokee with a rooftop tent eventually, but it doesn't even seem that it could support it regardless?
Everything I tried to tighten up on that captive nut, including recommendations from RRO, did not work. So I removed the rail and packed under the lip around the top of the nut with epoxy, so as to secure it to the roof. That worked! If I ever need to refit the oem rails I will have to make an adjustment to that fitting.
I just ordered mine from RRO, i have had a tent on my stock rails no problem for years but i want peace of mind. RRO told me for a tent all you need is 2 crossbars and having 3 would not make a difference.
