You have a garage now but still working off the floor cutting metal & welding. Make a bench & sort your tools out which will produce good footage for us all to copy and make your life so much easier.

You have the coolest stuff! And I thought I was doing something when I installed 2 banks of 3 batteries in my semi... so I could run a coffee pot and my computer stuff and not worry about draining my bank of 4 truck batteries in my FLD120. I'd flip a switch and they'd charge while I was driving and then when parked I could shut that connection off and use the power. I could run a heater AND my coffee pot in the cold months and I thought THAT was something. Talk about moving from the stone age to 2024!! I love your set-up... but I'd be burrried in research if I tried to do anything like this today. Thanks for sharing this with us!!

Make sure when you mount the panels to the roof that you trim the trees so there is no shade on the panels during the day. Even 10% shade on a panel can cut the panel's gain by 50%.

Love the way you hooked up the camper for solar and living off grid. Havent seen the famnily cabin in a few yrs, since you mom and dad reinstalled a new roof on the main cabin, i remember you were in the tent, and it rained and water almost everywhere. I remember you mentioned that you were gonna build a cabin for your family up there, but had to get some drainage issues taken care of due to the water all over. Nice to see this place once again. I remember the last time you were there, you cleaered a place where you originally wanted to build your cabin, but again it had water issue. Pray you are all feeling better soon, and can't wait to see more videos on this place. Sp pretty up there. Great video!

Next video using the new garage can you give an update or describe how well (or not) the garage is working for you? I have noticed that the insulation needs to be finished. Not sure how the radiant floor was hooked up. I suppose, during the warm weather, you don't need to address these things now. During the fall you will probably button up the walls and get the heat working. I watched the entire series on building the garage and it was fascinating to watch.

Well, I didn't quite understand most of what you were talking about there, but I still enjoyed watching you put it together.

Nice setup! Only a few things come to mind looking at the battery storage area. I think it's going to get a little warm in there. Ideally you'd probably want at least 1U between each battery but I don't think you have that kind of space. Some sort of a fan system would do a lot to preserve the life of the electronics and if it were temperature controlled the fans wouldn't kick on until your setpoint. Having a single breaker for all that wiring is scary! Bus bars are nice because they're easy but they're not ideal to prevent things from melting or catching on fire but I'd only use them for the negative connections. I would put a breaker on each positive connection to minimize the risk of burning stuff up. Just some thoughts, good video though, thanks!

Pro tip for those who don't know, if you're putting stranded wire to a screw/screw clamp terminal and you want to be sure it gets clamped properly: tighten it, loosen it a quarter turn or so and then retighten it. Let's the strands find their happy place so to speak. Especially important with coarse stranded wire, maybe not so much with fine but oh well. Then give it a nice good tug and wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah to verify it won't immediately come loose. It's good practice to periodically check the connections, especially these kind of high current connections. P.S. Also lookup the datasheet of the device you're wiring and see what the supported wire types are. And what the torque spec is, electrical terminals require less torque than you might think.

Jesse we must say you are on the verge of being our favorite channel! We are familiar with the area that your property is located in. We have a place on Mountain Lake in Bleecker NY. My wife’s first comment was about the trees and rainy weather affecting your solar system. She is not a fan of the Adirondacks in rainy damp days. My Winnebago had 12v double florescent lights. 7 of them and I rebuilt them all with led strips, now thats some savings! also replaced all the incandescents with leds. Damn thing was a huge power hog.

You've definitely mastered off grid electrics and get the very best out of the systems you install. Nice to see your workshop doors installed, and you can work in the dry.

Use two of your 100 watt panels and the 20 amp Victron charge controller to charge the 12 volt house battery in the trailer. It is much more efficient than charging it through the inverter and then back through the stock RV converter/power center

Led lights make a hell of a difference. 1100 watts for 120 AC is pretty common. Mine uses about 1400 watts even with a soft start it chews through my massive battery bank in no time.

I have a 33ft Newmar class A I put 8 of those renogy panels on roof and 400ah of lifepo4 litthium batteries. I am running all 12v I have a inverter/charger combination that auto switches when plugged into shore or generator to invertor 3000w ... Works out good. Not enough to run a/c for any length of time really to speak of. With full sun I can just about recharge battery from 15% to 100 with barely using power all day. The idea was to basically only use generator when using ac. However I do run a small window unit in bedroom at nights for a few hours on the battery sometimes

Lower the trailer jacks at each corner when it's parked to keep it from rocking back and forth while going in and out the door.

Switching those lights to all LED will help a lot.

One of the best episodes. Been looking for just this use case w/30A plug in shore power. Really like ur setup. I'm likely going w/(1x) EG4 6000XP for now and (2x) EG4 Lifepower ( LFP ) for easy communication - maybe 3 LFP in the future.

I used those led bulbs.They got hot and melted the on/off switch in on position.I had to cut a wire before a fire.Pop a lenses off and see how hot those get!

Get a 19 inch or 23 wide server or network rack. 4 post or 2, a short one slide it in and bolt it down. Will hold all the batteries with spacing, cooling vents. Easy peasy. Those batteries are made to be rack mounted, would save a lot of cutting and welding

Jesse save off cuts of copper fuel lines 3/16",1/4" ,5/16", 3/8" they make great ferrules in a pinch.

Jessie.. with respect.. this thing is going to be great for the short term use at the other site project.. but for now.. do make a simple printed out schematic in color of which wire goes where.. and keep it in the camper.. so anyone other than youre self can easily work on this harware.. when its getting faulty or needs to change a wire or a the breaker itself, keep a breaker of the same amps and another shore power connector..just in case in the camper.

👍 You should look into getting A Midea U-shaped window unit AC and forego that loud power hungry roof AC. They are inverter technology, sip power compared and the loud part is on the outside. I mention this because you are going to keep it parked anyway. I'm going to install one in the rear window of my Class C RV and completely remove the roof AC for more solar panel area. The Midea's can be found at Costco on sale very cheap. Also, if you thoroughly insulate around that water tank, and the others while you're at it, you'll be way ahead of the game.

We have two cabins in the Western Adirondacks. Summer boating, fishing swimming. Winter snow mobiling. ATV's anytime weather permitting. Great locations. Are your lands in the Eastern Adirondacks? Very nice way of life.

Victron energy have 175watt panels which are much the same size as the ones you are fitting to the roof.A little bit longer but the same width

Standard 19" rack mount centres on the batteries. Many mounting options.

Since you have power there in the camper even when you’re not on site you could add a cellular hotspot (e.g. Netgear Nighthawk LTE) and be able to check on things like the EG4 status. Could even place a Raspberry Pi there ir other low power computer and be able to do some remote tasks. RealVNC Lite is good for that.

I’m with you on the lights. “Warm” light hurts my eyes. I far prefer around 5000k lights.

I like camping. It allows my family to travel on a budget. Campers are somewhat nasty but it's a better choice than motels or buying land. Just those batteries and inverter probably cost more than my camper

11:00 Stacking closer together might help with the batteries self heating feature in the winter months.

Get a dc/dc converter to 12v and power a fridge and usb ports everywhere (and TVs) Then get one of the 48vdc heat pumps. Virtually no ac required.

👍 That inverter is nice, I was going the AIO route until I found that they use a lot of standby power, the higher the power handling, the more. That EG4 3000 uses 40-50w just standby, which is the norm. I decided to go with an Ecoflow Pro with 10w standby and auto shutoff after 2hrs + DIY battery bank. That's a nice system you have there none the less!

If the Aircon is an inverter type the power use will decrease a LOT when it gets the space to the set temperature. So your system should last a lot more!

They make a "soft start" module to help with the initial amp draw on the AC unit. Small module that wires into the ac unit.

A good alternative to your ac would be a small mini split

Thanks Jesse, interesting video. I agree with you, I think a cabin (or cottage as I call them here in Ontario) is a much better option than a camper. From my friends and family’s experiences, campers often become mouse houses when you park them for a while. Mice can get in through a quarter inch crack and they sure make a mess, especially in clothes and bedding… and they can carry the Hantavirus, a very bad respiratory illness which can make you very sick or cause death. I cringe when I see RU-vidrs removing mice nests without respiratory protection. Having a cabin with a concrete substructure is a fantastic investment.
