Welcome to Episode 2 Of Pimp My Reel!
Just like the last episode, I "pimped" my reel with new spool bearings from ‪@spoolspeedceramicsi3n4bear9‬ and a new handle from the ‪@Channel13Fishing‬ trick shop. And just like the last time, I think the final product turned out great!! (Nope, not sponsored, just my opinion on some great products.)
I found the #13fishing handle on eBay but here is a link to the bearings for this reel: (Not an affiliate link)
www.spoolspeed...
I have a bunch more reels I plan to do this with. Let me know is there is one you'd like to see sooner than later. I'm thinking a Tatula might be next with a bearings, handle, and drag washer upgrade...We'll see. My ambitions are bigger than my bank account HAHA!
Thank you for watching another video! I really do appreciate every one of you who take the time out of your days to watch, and even comment on my videos. Ya'll rock!!

Thanks Joe! That tool was only $20 and I honestly almost didn't get it, but I am thrilled that I did! They sell pliers for the same purpose, but they were a little out of the budget. If I keep making these videos tho, I may be able to justify them. New bearings have made a huge difference in my other "pimped out" reel. I highly recommend the upgrade!

Glad to see you bring this back for a second episode!👏 After replacing only the handle and having issues with the small screws during that, I have a great appreciation for your dexterity in these bearing replacements. Super important to have the right tools💯! Spins smooth like butter man! When that nut went flying…I can totally relate. At least YOU didn’t lose that little screw…🤦🏻 So does the total number of bearing system for the reel increase with that upgrade? The reel shows an 8 bearing system. Just curious what that bumps it up to and if it impacts the brake action at all. Great video Joe! (Is that a magnetic mat you were working on?)
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing Год назад
HAHAH! Thanks Joe! Yeah them screws do tend to run off on me too from time to time. I take my reels apart every couple of years just to get all the "Florida" cleaned out of them. I've lost my share of parts. Then again, I was also using the wrong tools for a while and as you said, having the right ones, made the difference. So it's still an 8 bearing reel. The bearing count is the unit, not the "balls" in the unit. I hope that makes sense. The difference is that now my spool bearings are an ABEC 9 rating with ceramic balls. (trying so hard not to make "ball" jokes) As far as the brakes, I tend to adjust them more for lure weight and wind. The bearings haven't had any impact on it really. The spool tension is much more sensitive and I find that I have a wider range on the tension knob. I dont really, but it feels that way because the bearings are so smooth. They sell bearings for those Lew's and Abu reels you like. (episode 3 or 4 may star my Revo X) It may be a fun thing to try out. There are parts of that mat that are magnetic, but not the whole thing. Helps keep them little screws stay put! LOL

I must say you do some really good upgrades to your gear. That makes sense to keep that bearing bar even. otherwise it'd be like an unbalanced car tire. I probably would have overlooked that. By you saying keep it straight made me think that. Looks good, Great advice.
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing Год назад
Thanks Bud! I enjoy goofing around and taking things apart, always have. And the upgrades arent really that expensive either. They do add up, so thats why I spread them out a little. And now I can justify them by saying I am going to make a video of the install. So it's a win for me! LOL I get that people are nervous to mess with their expensive reels. I was too at first. Things like that pin being even on both sides, thats an experience thing. I have made that mistake before. Glad you liked it man!

@@ParabellumFishing first baitcast reel I ever talked apart was the Abu Garcia Black Max. I wasn't nervous though because I have repaired Xboxes and PlayStations. I’ve thought about trying to get the Bushings to try on the spool and the palm side like the Concept Reels they have but they are kind of expensive but would probably be worth it I’m not sure. It’s such an insane smooth Reel it’ll be hard to make it better.
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing Год назад
That is an amazing gift! This reel did NOT need any upgrades. As you said, it's amazing straight stock! I have noticed that since the bearing upgrade, my casts are longer and with less effort. Which is exactly what I expected to see from the bearing upgrade. I did it more for the content than anything. The reel was performing just fine. But with the addition of the Trick Shop handle, I thought it would make a good video. Otherwise, I'm a fan of "if it Ain'y broke, don't fix it" Thanks for watching! 👊🏻

@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing Год назад
You are 100% on that! I am going to check tonight. You got me curious
@markoharoldoronearmedpoohb7816
It may be a backlash nightmare, just my opinion, but! You will have to make reel adjustments to keep backlashes to a minimum, so how much do you really see from “Premium “ Bearings in Casting? Most likely a little, but reeling in the bait and fish, a lot!
@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing Год назад
I actually noticed a world of difference in casting in the other reel I did. Night and day with the length and smoothness of the cast. As far as the backlash concern, I had the same thought. But per the Spool Speed's website: "Initial spool start up inertia is lower with lightweight ceramic bearings allowing spool to start faster and with less effort! You will not tire as easily and your casting distance can improve with less effort. Individual results will vary. Your experience with a bait caster, your brake settings and spool shaft end cap tension are all factors." Personally, I have not had in increase in backlashes.

@ParabellumFishing
@ParabellumFishing Год назад
Hey Larry! Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it! I would say that there are some pretty obvious signs of bad bearings. Lousy casting distance, noise from the spool,... in this case, it was more an upgrade than a repair. Better bearings = better/smoother/longer casts, less fatigue, and less effort in casting. I do have a reel that NEEDS new bearings and that may become a video one day. I can't imagine what it would cost to send me a reel! LOL
