This is a really, really well thought out & designed product. Months ago, I stumbled upon this simply by chance, watched all the video transformations & was really impressed. At the time, I really didn’t have an area needing it but I was a fan & told some friends about it. Well I recently put in a large greenhouse and had to build up a 4’ slope for a level foundation area for it, making for a perfect area to support this great product idea and add 20 new additional planting garden spots. Excited & awaiting the FedEx delivery today!
We're so excited for you to tackle this! Thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm. Please send us a photo when you get them set up, we'd love to celebrate you and your new greenhouse project!!🪴
Brilliant! And exactly what I need to solve my erosion problem. I’ve been looking for a solution for a long time and came up short until I fortuitously stumbled upon your video tonight. I’ll be placing an order tomorrow once I measure.
@@trishferrer8209 I ended up not ordering. My project was delayed because I re-stuccoed my whole house and the scaffolding would have ruined the landscaping. When it came time to order dirt lockers, it was cost prohibitive for me. My project would have required 150 senior pieces and the shipping alone on it was $125. Sales tax was $140. All in, it was over $1,700 and I can’t justify it in the area I wanted to install it. Truth is, I think it’s an ingenious design and I can’t find anything anywhere close to it on the market. I should have snapped them up when they were available for pick up in Santa Clarita. Now they ship out of the Midwest.
@@tashagailys I noticed they have orginal, junior and senior. Can you use anyone? Or is each one for the grade of slope you have? Can you just order like 10 to try out and expand a little every yr??
@@randyman8984 the size you use depends on your slope. This video explains how to measure. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZrVRe6wPzwM.html You can order as many or as few as you like. Trouble is the shipping cost, which is why I decided not to order any at all.
Hello Randy, our updated website has size small, medium and large. You can visit our estimator page to determine the right size for you. Shipping is only $5.99, and free for orders over $500.
This looks amazing. I have a very steep slope starting at the edge of our front yard. No one wants to weed-eat this, because it's hard to stand up on it. It looks horrendous, most of the time, but I finally found someone to whack it down, which will grow back w/in 2 weeks. I enjoyed this video thoroughly. However, I have spine and knee problems preventing me from bending, squatting, or getting down on my knees in any form or fashion. I suppose we would measure the area, then order, and when it comes in, have a professional landscaping company install it. Also... lol ...we have no sidewalk, like in the video. That looks super convenient, but we live off-grid in the country, so the drop-off goes straight down to a country road that is pretty skinny. We also have a significant amount of traffic, because our little country road is a 6-mile thoroughfare from Hwy 64 to a few side streets, and apparently it's the only way in or out.
Glad you enjoyed the video. We will do what we can to confirm this is the right solution for you. Similar issues with my hillside, it was either dead or growing invasive weeds that had to be cut back to reduce horrible appearance. If you or someone can determine the dimensions Length and Width, as well as the angle of the slope, we can look at what options are available.
Holy cow Trish your area sounds like it is beautiful! I would love to live off grid but I need the Internet to work. Also I feel your pain as far as back pain and knee pain I am also getting ready for my second hip replacement so it makes working around the yard rather hard. To prevent me from slipping down the steep hills I have heavy work boots where I have attached ice cleats to them. These cleats are the metal cleats in about a half an inch spike on the bottom so I don’t slide down the hill like I used to with regular boots! Good luck on your endeavor!
I know you mentioned that ithe dirt locker is suppose to eventually disappear but I actually like the look so don't want it to disappear. I may be the only one?
Not at all. Several people have mentioned that they like the look, organized, even someone mentioned that it looks artistic, however, our contention is that plants can be timeless while most other landscape design items become dated.
I installed 30 of the dirt lockers last year, just before hurricane Isaias last year and they worked great! I tried to call and get more but no-one ever called me back. I would love to order more!
Hello Donna, Thank you for your repeat business, and our apologies for not getting back sooner. I just sent an email to you as well. We just updated our ordering system and have gotten over the learning curve.
For the specifics with pricing please contact Mark he is the inventor and this is his business. Go to the Dirt Lockers website and his phone number is on there call him directly. I have been ordering 10 Dirt Lockers at a time that is 10 pairs of Dirt Lockers each half makes a half of a circle. They even with stood the torrential down pour‘s of the last hurricane Ida which swept through the north east dumping 8 inches of water in about an hour and a half and my Dirt Lockers were fine. I also ordered the senior Dirt Lockers because they Are better for a steeper hill. One area on my hill falls 2’9” and a 4 foot span so it is pretty steep. If Mark ever made ones for even steeper hills I would be interested! But the senior seem to work fine
Can you easily combine the original and senior models in one project? AND can I continue expanding the project or is it best to do it all at once? I am yo yrs old and have to do most of my own work, at least initially. SO, I want to lay out and finish a rather large area one section at a time. ((It's an Alabama hillside that hasn't been cared for in decades and some parts are steeper than others..
Very cool! So we have 2 intersecting 24 ft by 4 ft perpendicular slopes that fall into each other are both a .33 slope ratio. How do interconnect the systems in this case?
@stphenramsey6022 Thank you for your comments. The best way that we can help ois if you send pictures and/or sketches of the area to info@dirtlocker.com or visit our website at www.dirtlocker.com
Hi, I want to use these as a way to retain rainfall in order to moisten the hill to prevent fires and to hydrate the hill in California. Will these work? I would like them to last 50 years!!
The DirtLockers are made from HDPE (recycled), which is used in water distribution because it is nontoxic, good temperature operating characteristics, and has built in UV inhibitor, and has anticipated life of 50-100 years. This site has good info plasticpipe.org/pdf/tn-27-faq-hdpe-water-transmission.pdf to increase longevity you will want to make sure you have good plant growth that will provide shade etc. As the more you stop UV the greater the life expectancy
Question: How will it preform in cold weather location like the north east? I'm concerned with water retention and freezing in the cold weather after it rains.
Hi Bill, I live in the North east myself, and I can tell you the Dirt Lockers held up fine with all the snow and ice we had this past winter. The "plastic" that they are made of is actually pretty thick. I installed the Dirt Lockers just before Hurrican Isaias in 2020 and they held up the the run off we have living on a very steep hill.
@@bestmaturehealth I noticed on their website they have orginal, junior and senior. Can you use anyone? Or is each one for the grade of slope you have? Can you just order like 10 to try out and expand a little every yr??
Hello Randy, the Dirt Locker model (now Small, Medium, Large) are recommended based on slope angle and project size. Our minimum order is 10, so you can certainly try it out first to see how you like it, then add more!
From an aesthetic hard scape dirt locker is less than desirable! Yes it’s cheaper than boulders or railroad ties but takes away from an organic landscape project! It seems like a cheaper option to boulders or railroad ties but how much will it move with freezing and thawing? I’m not a fan.
Everyone has their preference for garden landscape design. Yes, Dirt Lockers are a more affordable alternative to traditional hardscape methods. They are also lighter and easier to install for the homeowner. They do not move due to freezing and thawing as they are anchored down with metal rebar. We have customers in Canada, Minnesota, Utah, Montana, NY, etc..., who deal with harsh winters.
At this time we don't offer installation services. You can order online and it will be shipped to you. We are happy to talk to any landscapers you find in the area, or walk you through the installation process, as well as it can be a DIY project!
@@RollingParkers For best pricing, first measure your slope angle and project dimensions to get an estimate on product size and quantity, then head over to see pricing based on your slope's specific needs. As always, you can email us at info@dirtlocker.com and we can assist you.
Any amount of square footage. Check out this video with 600 pieces! Works on slopes 10°-45°. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T38wRSJT8q0.html
Thanks for your candor. A couple things you may not be considering is that the product is not designed to be seen, like rebar, no beautiful building or house is made without it. And for those that are concerned about the growing period prior to plant maturity, we have a brown version.
Thank you. I spent over $6,000 on my side yard last year. I have a retaining wall that the landscaper did not put up correctly. And I have a whole side yard full of rocks and I'm just like so upset about it a year later and I did not know how to measure and I really appreciate these detailed videos
Hello Cara, sorry to hear about your retaining wall failure. We are here to help so feel free to send us an email to info@dirtlocker.com and we can help you with your project area estimation.
Dirt Lockers are made from 100% recycled high density polyethylene. We take single use plastic and repurpose it to its final use. One large Dirt Locker® is the equivalent of saving 13 single use plastic milk jugs from entering our landfills. Made in the USA shipped to you within a week.
Hello yes we can ship to Europe. If you send your model, color and quantity needs along with country and postal code to info@dirtlocker.com we can get you a quote
Such a great invention. I have a question: our hills are just slightly too steep to mow, but we get so many weeds that we need to use string trimmers as well as push mowers. With a Dirt Locker system, how do you control weeds? I'm afraid to use landscape fabric because we've had bad experiences with it in the past. Could you build the Dirt Lockers over cardboard sheet mulch? What is the displacement for each cell? 2-3 sq yards?
You can utilizing the wet cardboard method with Dirt Lockers. Large and Medium Dirt Lockers can be cover 2-3 feet of slope width, giving them a depth range of 20"-16". This will depend on your slope angle. Visit our step 1 of our installation page for reference, view the green chart.
@@dirtlocker Thanks for your response. What if the slope is facing west? What if the dirt lockers will be planted just a few plants? How long will the dirt lockers last?
@@vivianz1284 we put 10 year UV inhibitor in product. My original prototypes using same mfg and plastic were in place over 10 years on south facing slope in near high desert conditions. It doesn’t disintegrate like other plastics, it di fade somewhat, and will become more brittle, but if left in place, will hold its own.
