Installing the Eurobrace on the 120G Custom Built Reef Tank ( 120G Reef Tank Build Part 4 )
48''x24''x24'' 12mm thick glass non tempered polished edges. custom built by LEOPAZZO.
In this video I briefly recap on the tank build and touch base with the installation of the 12mm thick eurobraces.
that measure 48'' long by 2.5'' wide.
eurobrace silicone was applied via injection method.
I rested the eurobrace on top of the front and back glass panels with 1 tooth pic gap thickness on either end of the glass eurobrace, with this gap, i injected my silicone into the gap that I had left with the thickness of the 1 thooth pic on either end.
once silicone was injected I removed the tooth pics and slightly tapped on the eurobrace glass to slightly squish out the silicone that i injected, but more focused on the 2 areas where I had placed the tooth pics, to make sure that the air pocket from the tooth pic has been removed.

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I'm planning on doing a 5'x2'x2' reef in the very near future. Trying to decide between glass and acrylic. Which would you prefer? Won't the silicone break down over time? Whereas the acrylic will fuse to itself. Would like to know your opinion and why you'd pick one over the other.

hey hyB818 and great question. feel free to show your support buy purchasing a LEOPAZZO - REEF TANK ADDICTION T SHIRT. just shoot me an email and ill look after you. i personally would pick glass as shown in this video. i have not yet built an aquarium out of acrylic. i have only built out of glass. aquarium build grade silicone is meant to be strong and to last. Its not just about the silicone, it is also about the thickness of glass for the dimensions of the tank. notice i didnt say glass thickness according to tank size in gallons. the dimensions are also very important. there is not much room for error to be honest. i do believe that others can successfully build a tank via this exact same method. I have a 59" x 20" x 20" 100 gallon tank. Is it ok if I only Euro brace like you did along the length of the tank (59" from side to side ) or should I also add a brace on the ends from front to back (20")?

Could we use this type of brace on an existing tank that we were given? It is 72x24x18 and we have already resealed the bottom and sides. But when we filled it to water test the seal, we discovered that there are multiple cracks in the top frame and the tank started bowing. We obviously drained the water pretty quick, but now are having trouble finding a replacement top frame (located in Ottawa and no one wants to ship outside of the US). We definitely need it to be structural but would also like it to look nice. Any suggestions?

Hey there A Fish , yes I highly suggest replacing the frame of the tank. Or you can install eurobrace as shown in this video. Keeping in mind that the side glass walls of that tank are not as thick as they should be for eurobrace design. So yes installing new glass eurobrace will HELP but just know that you are altering the tank safety factor ratio. Considering the eurobrace that you install will be installed accurately and effectively and will structurally support the pressure of water. I don’t think it’s worth the risk in your case. If you have experience with siliconing glass tanks than give it a shot and just test it thoroughly outdoors filled with water. Not elevated to high off the ground. And somewhere you can keep it filled with water for 1-2 weeks . If it was me . I prefer to build another tank or buy another one new or used in good condition. Or you can install the eurobrace and just give it a good testing outdoors with water. Make sure the tank is level at all times when filling up with water and is supported evenly from the bottom. Any other questions feels free to ask.

How do you remove the excess silicon on the bottom plate bottom side as no paper tapes are seen below? Is there any video showing final finishing of the aquarium removing excess silicon etc.

I just bought a 120cm x600cm x 500cm braceles I hate it I don't trust its build its 12mm ultra clear never had a braceles before I don't like it still not filled it I euro bracing bottom with 10mm tempered and building an aluminium brace for top

Why leave that cap? I just used adhesive cement and butting up each ends less then a blades width and a half inch bead of silicone on the inside .. did that 3 years ago and to this day I still can't take the tank apart ... Strong or what

andrew there are many ways to build a tank and this is my injection method video showing how I build my tanks. The silicone gap is needed in this injection method design for the silicone to be injected into the gap once all glass panels have been precisely level and gapped ready for the injection process. Hi leo, I'm going to make a tank exactly the same size that you are doing, but I'm using 16mm glass. Can I use the injection method and leave the tank rimless? I didn't wanted to use any eurobraces at all. But you think is safe??

Is your using 16mm thick glass then yes u don’t need eurobrace and u can use injection method no problem

No. Just one coat. Silicone won’t stick to dry silicone

magic, lol no... the silicone is built this way to have enough strength to hold the glass panels together. There is some engineering involved such as glass thickness and support and height to know what size glass and thickness and support is needed. its not that simple but it can be if you understand the process.

Don't need a center brace? I want to cut a 75 gallon to 14 inches tall (50 gallon) I am wondering what kind of bracing I'd need.

Use 12mm glass for this tank build and it will prevent the need for bracing as you said you only want to make the tank 14 inches tall. No braces needed with 12mm glass for that size tank. Hope this helps

I have a aqueon 125g aquarium 72x18x21. I removed the plastic bracing on top of aquarium. The tank is build with 3/8" walls. I would like to eurobrace. Can I do it 2x 72" eurobraces laying on top. Or do I have to add 18" sides as well. Can my brace sit on top of aquarium or do they belong inside the top perimeter. How thick should the euro brace be? How wide should eurobrace be?

With a tank this size 72 inches long you will need euro brace front and back and left and right side along with 2 braces in the middle spaced out every 2 feet. 3/8 glass is not that thick and the tank will 100% bow in the middle if you don’t install eurobrace. Yes the eurobrace can sit on the top.

bottom same thing as the sides. the bottom piece of glass is smaller all the way around enough for the silicone to be injected. measurements of the glass are extremely important.

The weight of the glass pushes down the eurobrace glass so it is a little bit more difficult to silicone nice and neat. Tape is recommended 100% during this process

I have a 72"x18"x21" tank with cracked plastic bracing on top. I'm considering doing this kind of bracing instead of a new plastic frame. I understand that the thickness of the brace should match the thickness of the tank walls, but how wide should the braces be?

YOU CAN GO WITH 1/2 THICK GLASS AND ABOUT 2.5 - 3' INCHES WIDE. THIS WILL REPLACE THE PLASTIC BRACING, JUST BE SURE TO ADD A 1-2 MIDDLE BRACE IF THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC BRACING HAD MIDDLE SUPPORTS. KEEO ME UPDATED HOW IT GOES

Hey I have a question sir. I have two tanks to repair. One is a eurobraced 2600 gallon tank the has a broken end piece of glass that I need to know how to replace end panel glass. Second is a normal plastic rim framed 150 gallon tank that needs replacement bracing as it is broken in places just the plastic not the glass that is. I am thinking the 150 gallon I either buy a replacement brace frame or do Eurobrace which I like the looks of better anyway. Where do you buy the glass by the way.

For the 2600 gallon tank you will need to cut out the old silicone and replace with a new piece of glass the exact same size and thickness. Be sure the gap along the edges are all the same thickness and there is no air pockets when injecting the new silicone. As for the 150g tank with the broken plastic trim. I would just carefully remove the plastic trim around the tank and replace it with glass euro bracing. Install the euro brace along the front and back and both sides. Be sure the euro brace is properly seated with consistent gaps along the bottom and have no air pocket gaps when injecting the silicone. I have some other videos that I show how to install euro brace if you need more help. Keep us updated on how the tank repairs go. Keep in touch.

Yes it will work. Just buy the right thickness of glass and design / brace the tank properly with the correct amount and type of supports etc. I wouldn’t be building this tank to coke apart in a 28th floor condo downtown Toronto

hey winzi, draw it out on paper, nice and simple and decide what exact size do you want the outside of the tank, minus the thickness of glass of the front and back along with the silicone thickness. you can figure out what glass you need. DO NOT US 10MM, YOU HAVE TO USE 12MM

use 5/8 glass for all side panels and bottom panel. Install eurobrace along the bottom and top perimeter of the tank and I also suggest installing a middle cross brace at the top. nice size tank - keep us posted.

Yes reinforce the tank. When needed. Some tanks don’t need it due to the glass thickness and size and design etc.

Hello friend i need some urgent help, the person who built me the same type of aquarium 48x24x24 braised the top and bottom of the tank length wish (two piece) but the braces do not extend till the side panels they stop some half an inch short on both ends i am worried this would not be adequate or strong. please help.

The tank is ready, yesterday we filled it with water to check for leakage, its been 18 hours now i don't see any water leakage i will send you some pictures of the aquarium to your email, the bracing is a semi euro bracing.

LEOPAZZO TV have scaped and planted the aquarium two months ago, have introduced shrimps and assassin snails as i had a lot of pond and Malaysian snails which had bloomed in the past two months little over 4-5 weeks ago i had introduced the assain snails they have almost cleared all other snails and have laid eggs, i will send you images on Gmail check it out, shrimps that i have introduced are cherry shrimps that have turned wild they have aquired a dark brown-black shade with a light line on the back and have lost the red colour they have started to reproduce too.

Hey I have a problem that has been repeated a second time. I inject the silicone in the same way you do, while the adhesive area looks transparent and after about a day's drying I see that there are small bubbles of air in the adhesive areas. What could be the reason?

I Install custom showers so do heaps of silicone joins, I don't use the last quarter of the silicone tubes as that seems to be where all the bubbles are, check it with a light after pumping it into gap and where you see bubbles you can pump them out by pushing more silicone at that spot into gap, don't move glass gaps around after doing them either... Hope it helps

@@davidhole8229 Thanks for the help, the idea of not using the last quarter really sounds good, I use too, 2 millimeter intervals The thing is that sometimes the bubbles appear during drying because I really check for a flashlight and see no signs of silicone air bubbles

Yes that is an option. But I prefer to drill after the tank is assembled and built, for correct measurement / location of the holes to be drilled. If you can precisely measure and locate where you want the holes to be drilled then you can also pre-drill it as you mentioned. Thanks for the feedback and joining the channel.
