I didnt to be honest I just bathed the pistons in a Traffic Film remover bath then they came out good as new measured the races and all seemed to be in good order so I just replaced the piston rings and bearing caps.
If you email parts for saab you're engine they'll give you the right ones, that's what I did. They tell you which ones go where, gap size etc on the packet
