I will have to check the bushings and maybe the reverse bracket setting since the 1st and reverse gear engage with more resistance than others. Also when shifting to reverse I mostly hear gears grind. What else could be the cause of this? I need to change my M47 fluid, but the fill plug is stuck and stripped. I will try to apply some heat or maybe weld a bigger nut?
The grinding reverse is common on many manual older transmissions, it’s just the synchros going out unfortunately but as long as it goes in it’s not terrible. The m47 has an aluminum case and the fill bolts are a soft metal like brass if I recall, only use 6 point wrenches because the 12 point will round them. If it’s already stuck you may need to fill it through the reverse light switch hole higher up
