Volvo short shifter build and shift lever repair for my Volvo 242 DL

In this video I make some repairs to the shift lever that came with my 77 Volvo 242. The fulcrum ball needed to be rewelded and reshaped, and the reverse rod needed to be replaced. I also decided to turn the lever into a short throw shifter.

Remember forum threads back in the day of people just heating up the ball and giving it a bonk so it moved and getting short shift that way

I remember reading those! I couldn’t do that with my shifter because of the repairs I made on it, also it seemed to lack the gap between the ball and the rod like my replacement shift lever but that’s definitely a method I’d like to attempt in the future
