In this video, I help my friend Pat replace the catalytic converters on his 2006 Toyota Tundra after they were stolen, along with the oxygen sensors. To keep things on a budget, I ordered the cheapest catalytic converter I could find on eBay and the least expensive oxygen sensors from Amazon. I spent about $224 in total, and let’s just say, things didn’t go exactly as planned.
Armed with less-than-ideal tools and hardware that didn't match the threads, I encountered a few bumps along the road during the installation. The hardware that came with the catalytic converter didn’t fit, so I had to reuse some pretty beat-up nuts from the original setup. When I was "done," one of the converters was held on by just one nut, while the other had two. Oh, and halfway through, I discovered the exhaust had been cut in a way that left me without the necessary parts to complete the system.
Despite the hiccups, we did manage to turn off the check engine light and Pat is now ready to pass emissions! This budget repair may have been a little rough, but it got the job done. Watch along as we battle the odds to get this Tundra back on the road!
