Toyotas love to be beat on, that's a known fact. Despite this, there are a few known failure points, spots that might let you down once the truck is taken into the rocks, off jumps, or into any legitimately rough terrain. The stock spindles are one of these weak(ish) links, but are easily strengthened with just a little extra steel! This kit from Total Chaos Fabrication includes a couple pieces of nicely bent and profiled sheet that weld to the spindle, allowing each one to take significantly more force than they could in stock form. In this video I show the entire install, from start to finish! I really enjoyed doing this mod, and I definitely think it's something most amateur fabricators could easily tackle.
More projects coming soon...it's almost time to start bending tube!

This is the 1st of your videos I have watched and while I probably won't ever weld on spindle gussets, this was a fantastic front end disassembly/assembly video and adding the torque specs is a little bonus. My first dive into my 99 Taco front end was new shocks/struts. This video gives my the knowledge to go much further.

Glad you enjoyed it!! The IFS really isn’t terrible to work on, just need some basic knowledge of how it goes together.

@@S0nnenberg I said that this was the 1st video of yours that I had watched, but I didn't realize that you were the same guy with the red Taco. Now I know you have good wheeling and good technical videos. Even better.

Nice video, organized work and good sound. I've got a set to put on along with some bmf skids for the LCA's on my 2nd Gen. Thanks for showing the way.

Thank you, I’m glad you liked it! The gussets for the second gen look really good, and there’s a method to add even a little more strength through some boxing. I put his handle in the description, but check out @hilodana’s account in IG if you want to see some really nicely done spindle gussets for a second gen.

Good vid man. In the future if you need to torque any axle nut just throw a screwdriver in the web of the rotor and let it lock up on the caliper as you tighten it, Works on any car as long as it doesn't have solid rotors obviously.

That’s another technique I’ve used, I tend to use the one I showed more often just because I tend to be pretty mean to screwdrivers through other methods. Thanks for the support too, I appreciate it!

I would assume one needs an alignment after this ? just guessing. Nive vid and great mods !

Thanks for watching! Providing you’re not adjusting/moving your tie rods during the process, you shouldn’t need an alignment, but I guess it couldn’t hurt if you’re concerned you didn’t put everything back in the exact same position.

would it be harder to remove upper balljoint with the gusset on ? want to do that mod but just wondering

Awesome content man 👌🏽 Do you think you’ll ever change out your LCA bushings? Or Cab mount bushings. A video on that would be sick! Great stuff

I’m sure I’ll have to at some point, I’ll make sure to film it when I do! Great video idea, and thanks for the support =]
