In this video we are installing tree root barriers. This is a relatively new system being used around our area that is now required on this particular site. It was the first time that we installed these so it was a learning process and you can see how it went.

It is for sure a time consuming extra step! Always cool to learn and do new things though. Thanks Bryan! I’ve been missing making and watching RU-vid videos! Just been an insane busy summer lol. Hope your doing well and I’ll start catching up on your stuff too!

Works pays the bills yt is a way of showing the work you do work comes first. Good to hear you have been staying busy. So we will have video's to watch after the snow and cold hit right? Lol Never seen or heard of root barriers they should work.

Ohhhh busy would be an understatement 😂😂😂 For sure have many videos banked up just a matter of compiling footage and getting it out lol. I had never heard of root barriers either but now it’s a new thing I’ve done 😆🤷‍♂️

Can a root barrier trench curve or does it need to go straight

On installations where concrete is older and new concrete may be redone In the future, I’d definitely recommend bringing those root barriers at least 4 to six inches from paved surfaces for when the owners need to pour new concrete as they will dig out to place forms before concrete is poured. New concrete like this, 50 years before they have problems and the barriers will be brittle by then.

Yeah that makes sense for sure! This is new to me and the first time I’ve installed them. It’s a newer thing in this region that the city is implementing now in new developments.

Awesome video Andrew🤙 Don’t feel bad I haven’t uploaded a video in a month and a half 🤷‍♂️crazy busy I installed those once about 14 years back Have you ever heard of structural topsoil?
@dirty.diggers
@dirty.diggers 2 года назад
Thanks James! Dude it has just been insane! Work always takes priority can’t pay bills otherwise lol I haven’t heard of structural soil. I know there is hydro seeding that is supposed to have some structure to it for use on slopes and etc. What is structural topsoil? And what’s the purpose?
@gibsonlandscapeconstructio7984
@gibsonlandscapeconstructio7984 2 года назад
@@dirty.diggers structural soil is basically topsoil mixed with 3/4 clear We installed 30 thousand sq ft of interlocking brick sidewalks with lindens planted roughly every 30 feet or so and we used the structural topsoil as a subsoil Supposed to give the tree roots a place to go as well as be a solid subsoil I’m not an engineer but the trees and walkways are doing great Has it been raining a lot down south too? Have a good one Andrew

@@gibsonlandscapeconstructio7984 oh that’s really interesting! For sure all kinds of innovative ways to do things which is good creating more work and a better product in the end. Dude it has been so rainy last few weeks. More on the way today and tomorrow 🙄

@@dirty.diggers I had my doubts but here we are 14 years later and still looks great except the city is destroying the brick by salting in the winter

How thick does the barrier need to be? I’m planting Ficus/Indian Laurel Figs.
@dirty.diggers
@dirty.diggers 2 года назад
We used a border that was 18” high and maybe 1/4” thick or so. Whatever the town requires

Where can I buy these tree root barriers? What sizes do they come in? Can you provide a link?
@dirty.diggers
@dirty.diggers 2 года назад
Hey Dale, The customer actually supplied them to us. This was the first time we had ever used them. I believe they come in 24”x24” or the size we used which was 24”x18” high.
