Peel & stick vinyl tile installation in garage video. 4 years later, every tile is still firmly in place and looking good.

I did nothing but wash the floor with soapy water and broom sweep it. I also filled in some cracks and imperfections with pre-mixed floor leveler. 4 years later, every tile is still firmly in place and looking good.

@@mazerwholesale so I have a concrete garage floor that has a split I have a car on each side everything is flat all I have to do is clean it could I fill that split with that premixed floor leveler or is it split in half for a reason I always step on it and turn my ankle I don't want to just cover it for fear of messing the tiles ups over that split what do you think?

My husband layed sticky tile on our basement floor over the weekend. It's popping up in spots. He only did a small area to make sure we'd like it. My dad said that the floor is too cold. Should we put a heater on the concrete before we continue? Or do we need to wait until the weather changes? We wanted to get this done during the winter months.

This is a great look and looks like an easy way to achieve the look. Looking to buy soon for my new house. Would you recommend putting down epoxy to get a smooth surface if there are areas that are a bit rough? Would you recommend putting something over the tiles once installed to keep things from going into gaps or from coming up?
@mazerwholesale
@mazerwholesale 8 лет назад
No. Don't paint the surface. Clean it with soap & water. Fill in any crack, holes or expansion joints to make the surface smooth. Use floor leveler or crack filler for this. You will find it in any hardware store. A latex floor primer is also recommended. Lots of our customers rave about Henry's Bond Enhancer .
@mazerwholesale

Thanks for the comment. Our tile is not recommended for walls because the adhesive is not made for holding in the vertical position. We DO get many inquiries about that. Now we carry a wall tile in 4" x 4" squares, mainly used for back splash. We have a video on it.

The two difficult parts I wanted to see must have been edited out or forgotten. How do you cut the edge tiles, and what do you do about the raw edge under the garage door?
@mazerwholesale
@mazerwholesale 3 года назад
Cutting the tiles is simple. Simply use a razor knife (utlility knife) and score the back of the tile, then break it off. No need to cut all the way through it. One stroke of the blade with slight pressure is enought. As for the raw edge, it's not NECESSARY to cover it but if you want to, go to a hardware store where they sell vinyl/rubber runner. Apply adhesive (contact cement will work fot this) and overlapt the edge with the runner.

Henry's Floor Patch / Crack Filler. Home Depot sells it. Lowe's probably has a different brand and any hardware store carries a similar product. You can buy it in a quart-size can or a gallon and you can buy in powder form if you have a lot of cracks and holes to be filled.

Thank you for your question. There's no reason moisture should be a problem. When you install the tile, you'll position each piece to be tight against each other piece without spaces. That's natural because it will look terrible if you don't! I wouldn't expect anyone to let water stand on their floor either. If you're concerned about mopping, don't worry. Mop away. This will not be an issue.

I like your style, man! Boy, I wish I could say that I did save money using your company, but I'm a victim of my old lady. She's the type that gets a wild hair up there and just goes with an idea. "Hey, I wanna rip up that ugly, old linoleum on the basement shop and put in a new floor!" What does she do? She rips up the old floor up on a whim, buys exactly *one* box of new tiles from the local big-box store (because, ya know, why measure the actual surface you need to cover when you can just guess?) and, for a year, never puts down the new ones. I finally took matters into my own hands and went to buy more but - you know it - the handful of tiles she bought were now discontinued. Into the trash they went. I had to buy a totally new set and sit at ~25% waste before I had made a single cut on the new stuff! I love her, but good grief...

If you plan to park a car on the floor, you should use our Garage Floor Tile. It comes 120-sq. ft. per box. You would need 4 boxes.www.mazerwholesale.com/product-category/self-adhesive-flooring/garage-floor-tile/. If you don't plan to park a car on it, you can use our standard interior tile. It comes 20-sq. ft. per box so you could get 10 boxes of each and have exactly 4000 sq. ft. I DO recommend having SOME leftovers just in case. www.mazerwholesale.com/product-category/self-adhesive-flooring/self-adhesive-vinyl-floor-tile/

I would like to just document my experience with these tiles. It may not correspond to anyone else's experience and I'm not trying to post a negative review. The people at Mazer have been communicative and have attempted to be halpful. My installation was on an epoxied garage floor that was in pretty good shape but ready to be renewed. I cleaned the floor thoroughly with a pressure washer and filled in gaps and spauls with a concrete mix. We then proceeded to install most of the tiles. The adhesion was poor to nonexistent. The tiles bubbled up around the edges and can be lifted up with just a fingernail It is almost as if the floor repels the adhesive. I talked to Mazer about this and they recommended drops of superglue around the edges and I tried that but it just bonded in spots and isn't really a solution. I am now using a 3M spray adhesive and it looks like that may work but it will require me to pull up all the tiles and spend many hours to fix the problem. They claim that this only happens in 3% of their cases and I have no reason to doubt that but I would recommend that if you want to use this product you might want to buy just one box and try it out. The product is heavy, and even if Mazer was willing to give me a refund (which they aren't), the shipping cost to return them would be prohibitive. The tiles look great and they are staying in place with the cars driving over them but i don't know how long they will stay in place, what will happen when it gets cold in the winter, and the bubbling around the edges makes the installation look cheezy.

@briancase1972 Thank you for your comment. I've only had 2 or 3 complaints about the tile in the last 11 years and ultimately it was revealed to me that each one of the customers who complained admitted to using additional adhesive. Additional adhesive will almost never work and will void the warranty. If you buy our tile, please do NOT be tempted to use extra adhesive.

This stuff suck big time. I followed the arrows like he says, they still left small gaps. The adhesive is terrible, it only sticks to your hand and then when you apply it to the ground it comes up or it breaks at the corner. Waste of $250 in my book. It was a cheap lesson but I wish I got refunded cuz now I gotta buy the real stuff for about $1500

It seems to me that starting in the center of the room will result in equal cuts on the opposite sides of the room. It will result in twice as many cuts as compared to starting in the corner. At the same time, if your room is not square, starting in the middle will assure that our tile is straight.

Thank you for your question. No. I only cleaned the floor with soapy water and a broom. My garage floor is over 40 years old, not perfect and not super-clean. There's nothing wrong with priming the floor. One of our repeat customers swears by a product made by Henry's and she buys it at Lowe's. But again, my floor is still firmly in place, applied to an imperfect surface with no primer or sealer applied.

Thank you for your question. The surface you're installing on certainly must be dry before applying the tile. Once the tile is installed, moisture doesn't seem to be a problem. However, standing water should not be allowed. Just as you would mop up a spill on your kitchen floor, so should you keep the surface of the tile dry from standing water. Basements tend to be moist but have not had any negative feedback about basement application in the 12 years we've been selling the tile.

Thank you for your comment. I have never needed to use that tactic, but it makes pretty good sense. I would go with the hair dryer because I'm sure the heat gun could be too hot and compromise the tile. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your question. I have no doubt you'll be fine with the drips so long as you clean up. This tile is generally something you would use in a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or foyer. I have (and lots of our customers have) used the product in far more demanding environments with much success. Tiles which may get damaged from abnormal traffic or chemical spillage can easily be removed and replaced with the leftovers from your original installation, making our tile a great choice.

Thank you for asking! It's now 9 years and 2 months and every tile is still firmly in place. But let me tell you what I did 1 year ago, and I'll also include a link to the video. Many people ask: "Can I use this tile to cover the tile already on my floor, or do I have to remove the old tile?" So, after 8 years, my garage floor was as good as new in the low-traffic areas and a little beat up in the higher-traffic area. It still looked pretty good considering we seldom swept the floor and NEVER mopped it. Hey...it's a garage floor! A few tiles took more of a beating than others and in this video, I demonstrate how to remove and replace a few tiles ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2MUb-AmoChM.html . And in THIS video, I show how a new tile can be installed over top of the previous tile ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FsNyZigBuc0.html . We sold that house 6 weeks ago but the new installation of Salt & Pepper had behaved just as the Black and White. We had 3 offers on the house in 3 days and sold it to one of them. Not saying it was because of the tile on the garage floor...but you never know!

Mr. Tarkett, That may be the case with SOME tile but not ours. As I demonstrate in the video, this floor is less than perfect. 40 year old cement slab, untreated, unprimed, and not a tile has shifted or peeled. This is installed in New Jersey where we have hot summers in the 80-90 degree range with very high humidity and cold winters down to sub freezing temperatures. Folks gladly volunteer their photos and success stories on our facebook page. Maybe that's a problem for Tarkett customers.

Thank you for your question. YES. The tile will do fine with your New England weather. However, the time to install is when the outdoor temperatures are steadily between 65-85 degrees F. After you install the tile and the glue sets, extreme cold or heat will not affect the tile.

I have complete confidence the tile will adhere to you surface after repairing the damaged areas. The tile is very glossy, it CAN be slippery when wet. However, salt will be unkind to the surface. You wouldn't wear your slushy, salty snow boots in your kitchen and grind abrasive material into your floor....it wouldn't be good for the floor. Car tires will be driving over the same tiles all the time and that makes it easy to replace the occasional corrupted tiles so it IS a cheap alternative.
@mazerwholesale
@mazerwholesale 12 лет назад
ALL the tiles?...that's odd...I'm sure you purchased another brand! Anyway, we usually don't recommend any extra adhesive but for really stubborn situations, there's a glue called Locktite which is compatible with our tile. You can find it at Home Depot, Lowe's or other well-stocked hardware stores. If you haven't already done it, please give our video a thumbs up. Thanks!
@mazerwholesale
@mazerwholesale 12 лет назад
Thank you for your question. The tile will take the shape of the floor you lay it on. If there are any holes or cracks, the tile will ultimately sink into them. Also, if you were to spill a glass of water on your kitchen floor, you would clean it up promptly. If your basement gets water and it tends to remain wet, you will have problems.

Thank you for your question. The floor should be at least 65 degrees. Think about applying sticky tape to something cold...it doesn't stick well. Same with tile. If you heat the room, it doesn't automatically mean the floor will warm up enough because the heat will rise. Test again before applying to the whole floor!
@mazerwholesale
@mazerwholesale 11 лет назад
Thank you for your question. I do NOT park my car in the garage so I can't tell you first-hand how the tile holds up to a car. I CAN tell you many people have purchased in who do and I never get any negative feedback. This tile is made for interior residential use but I've experienced it serving in much more demanding applications. I'm sure tire scuffs won't be a problem. The high gloss finish is highly resistant to dirt and is easily cleaned.

I have a painted concrete garage floor with some salt damage. I plan to patch the floor spots but leave the existing paint which I think is the latex variety based on wear evidence. Will this go over it? Is it slippery when wet? This looks like the right thing for me. I hope its within budget. I was dreading the nightmare painful and uncertain repaint - which ultimately fail. Plus I don't have the 2 weeks it'd take to paint my gar 1/2 at a time. I need a lay-down tile product.

So holding on to whatever is left over from your initial installation is a good idea.

Great question. Thank you. I have personally had experience installing tile over top of a sticky surface from where we removed peel & stick tile. It worked out great. You SHOULD KNOW, however, we removed our own brand of tile and replaced it with our own brand. So the adhesive was exactly the same. While I can make no guarantees as to the compatibility with another brand's adhesive with the adhesive of our brand, I think it should be fine.

Some people don't have the ability or experience to find the middle. Plus, we have learned that a garage floor installation is probably easier working from the front (from where the garage door meets the floor) and go straight back.

Thanks for the comment, Ryan. I'm trying to demonstrate here that you don't need to be a pro to lay the peel & stick floor to get great results. True, the better the preparation, the better the results. It IS true, I'm no mechanic! But the floor here in the garage came out great and it's now about 15 months later and not a single tile has peeled up or shifted.

Hi! I would like to ask if the vinyl tiles will be affected if the floor gets cracked when there are strong vibrations from big trucks that pass by in our house? Thanks!
@mazerwholesale
@mazerwholesale 12 лет назад
Thank you for your question. I would suggest you fill in the gaps of the expansion joints. The tile will sag into the spaces, especially when under the pressure of traffic. You can get floor leveler in premixed form and apply it with a simple putty knife. You'll need to give it at least a day do dry.

We have a brand new garage with a concrete floor, however, they put the lines in it for stress of cracking every 6 feet apart basically a 6 x 6 foot square...do I need to fill in these lines before laying the 6 ml underlayment then the vinyl adhesive plank flooring? thank you for any info.

Thank you for your question. The tile has a high gloss and also a slight texture. It certainly can be slippery when wet.

Thanks for your question. Unless the paint is chipping off the floor currently, it will be fine. In fact, the painted surface is a very good substrate for the adhesive tile.

Great video and I'm thinking of doing the same thing in my garage. Only concern is how slippery is this floor when wet. I mean in the garage its going to get wet and stay wet especially when it rains. Thanks

I used a granite looking vinyl tile for above a shower kit and sides..it actually turned out pretty cool and gave the bathroom a great look..used tile adhesive and then sealed every tile with clear silicone, (lightly applied of course)

How does it handle car tire scuffs and the weight etc? Is this a suitable Garage floor for parking and doing light work projects in?

What would you recommend using to fill the expansion joints on a 2 car garage prior to placing the peel and stick tile?

Great video! I had alot some questions which you anwsered perfectly. I am also doing my garage with the checkerboard pattern and using the same nexus black and white tiles. I was thinking of using some cvt adhesive lightly on the floor to give it that extra hold but you said it is strong as is. So i guess i won't need to buy the adhesive. You started from the center but i'm going to start from the front of the garage so its all full squares and not cut. What would you recommend to use as a transition where the tile ends at the front of the garage. I was thinking of running a strong black caulking along the edge.

The warranty on the Nexus is void if you park a car on it. We have a product which is almost exactly the same but it does come with warranty for parking a car on it. My floor is Nexus but I don't park my car in the garage. Next month (April 2018) it will be 7 years since I installed the tile. There are a few chips in the front where the tile stops at the door. Not a big deal. Adding a bead of caulk might work...not sure. You could also consider buying a strip of rubber or vinyl and glue it. Every one of my Nexus tiles are still firmly in place. I can't imagine they would suffer from the weight of a car, but I don't know for sure.

Not really worried about warranty anyway. i will be parking cars on it. I have already ordered 10 boxes of white and probably next week ill order the other 10 of black tiles. I'll look into what kinds of rubber strips or something similar might work also. Thanks!
