Today I am going to install Windows 98 to $^-}@'%&. Yes, this is a completely permitted real path and no, it doesn't mean Windows will work correctly when installed to it. That's what I am going to show you today, it will be kind of interesting.

@@TheZALGOisCOMING I’m pretty sure there’s a REALLY small button in the corner you can us to make a local account when it asks you to do that. That wasn’t there on early versions on windows 10 though.

idea for video: installing windows 98 on right-to-left override unicode characters or on ASCII characters null, start of heading, bell, data link escape, device control 1-4, etc. seems like a fun idea to me

It’s all caused by the Active Desktop features, which use HTML on the Desktop and in Explorer windows to power things like the sidebars and web content on your desktop. It was new to 98, and part of the reason Internet Explorer was so integrated to the OS in that release.

What happened to this same video yesterday? I watched the initial premiere and it suddenly had a weird error. Anyway, you could’ve installed Windows to an 8.3 directory name, meaning you’d have an additional 3 characters available after the dot, for a total of 11 characters for maximum effect on error messages.

Internet Explorer is an essential part of Windows 98, Windows Explorer also needs HTML to the left frame; basically it didn't surprised me that Explorer suicided. Howerver I didn't see that 386-style window (low resources) yet. :D

Fun fact for those interested more into why that happens: the windows explorer is literally internet explorer although reskinned, so when you browse through your files up to windows 7 I think, you basically just move around in internet explorer That's also why a lot of stuff in Enderman's video was crashing a lot, since html related dll's were having problems the explorer was mostly affected

The first song is NK - Sweet Dreams Full. Edit: It was actually Classical VIP. I think there was a Newgrounds bug that happened in Geometry Dash that changed the name from Classical VIP to NK - Sweet Dreams.

I have a question. For any version of Windows, what would happen if you have it be “C:\.exe”, and then make a shortcut with that as the path? Would it bring you to the file explorer? Maybe it restarts the whole computer since it’s launching something? It’s probably a stupid question but I wanna know.
