For those who say not to use peel and stick tile: keep in mind that no type of flooring is permanent, and that even real hardwood floors need maintenance. If you feel comfortable using peel and stick, it's a great option for people who don't have hundreds or thousands to spend on flooring. I have groutable vinyl tile in my kitchen, foyer, downstairs bath and garage hallway, and people don't believe me when I tell them it isn't real :). Not to mention that it shows no signs of wearing out.
What happened to the end of the edge Where there isn't a slap.. Did you facing problems with the dust and dirt on the side of the edge? How did you manage them
This video is amazing. Short, sweet and to the point and it looks great. I just moved into a house where the landlord put down white peel and stick in our entry room, and she did it herself with no idea what she was doing. It has polyurethane stains and looks absolutely awful, no matter how much you clean it. I have been wanting to fix it since I moved in, and now I see how easy it actually is to do, I'm inspired!
LOL, I would if I could! But seriously, the first thing to do is get rid of the fear, plan and dive right in. When I hesitate before projects I'm always amazed at how well they come out anyway. There is also a really great trick for making a template to get your cuts perfect every time; it's just about foolproof and makes the job much, much faster.
Excellent video. I just installed these in my Master bathroom. It was pretty easy. I especially like how you demonstrated how to measure cutouts around the perimeter.
Thanks, my white 'marble look' laundry floor is perfect even after 12 months. I did not do spaces for grout due to time pressures and instructions. I used undercoat paint to seal and prime over newly laid plywood to keep costs down :)
You might get to the middle and find you have to cut and fit to the size. Its better to do that at the edge than in the centre and thats why its best to start at the centre and work outwards.
I only have a small bathroom with a vanity down one side, if I lay out the tiles from the centre of the room, I end up with a small gap around the edges so I think it will make more sense to have the whole tiles on the open side of the floor leaving a larger gap to the vanity edge, don't need to stagger mine as they have a set pattern so just have to match that. Helpful video though.
Kysie Wood did it work out okay over the hard wood or did you put sheeting underneath? we are looking at doing floors in our place soon but need to figure out if we need to get the special under boards :)
question: taking the carpet out of a new mobile home. the subfloor is OSB. do i need to put primer or anything else on the surface of the OSB before installing peel and stick vinyl flooring?
I don't understand how to trace around these odd areas. We have molding around our door frame but no floor molding so getting around that door molding is going to be difficult.
NOVALIS...quick question:...can you add some extra floor glues to the already adhesive tiles?? Would that help in the long run?/ I notice that most tiles over ten years old start to lift a bit, especially in family kitchens.....I am a paint contractor, so forgive my lack of knowledge here, but I have a small vinyl tile job this week for a friend, I'd like it to really stay down for years
Anyone know if the peel and stick adheres to Durrock well? When I had my wood floor in my bathroom replaced [ it was rotting and was like walking on cushions ] the guy put durrock on it to make it sturdier. Thanks!
Unsealed grout will stain and work its way out. You can purchase a clear coating liquid that seals your grout and tile. Looks great and only needs a damp mopping.
This starting in the middle of the room and using a chalk line has me bumfuzzled. Starting in a corner along the longest wall is the advice I've gotten so far. What do you think?

Hi Lance, the chalk line gives you the center of the room, but you need to adjust where you lay your first tile if at the end you will have less than 6 inches to the wall.
Less than half the tile is more corect. Also do that for both lines... Like ppl do 2 sets of lines . First set in the center of the room and second set are adjusted lines(if nesesary).
Something to think about, Jwan, is that any texture that is covered over by vinyl tile may come through to the surface of the new tile. Like grout lines. That's because vinyl is soft, and when you walk on it, the tile will be pushed down into the layer beneath it, and over time, you will see the pattern of whatever is under it. I don't mean the underneath pattern will wear through necessarily, but just that the shape will show.
Jwan Mohammed Hi, Jwan! I'm dealing with something similar myself right now. I'm not sure why I decided to wait until New year's eve to start... haha... but I bought a cheap sander to sand it down if the tile is lifted a bit. Also, if you haven't purchased your tiles yet, you can get a great deal on Amazon. I bought a 20 pack and they're each a foot.... A heavy box for $10.93!! It's just a cheap black marble pattern, but we're moving & don't want to spend a fortune. They look really nice and they're SO easy to apply! Happy new year and good luck with your project! It's not so scary once you get started, I promise. :-)
I did tile over old tile. just paint regular house paint,it help but yeah i could have added adhesive, its more problem. I hired a team to do kitchen, held 8 yrs..without grout, and i can repair them easy, with hair dryer, remove, adhesive remover.. $46 dollars box for small bathroom. I spent $800 hiring labor 2 guys to do 15x 13 kitchen. took them 10 hrs . ok..so its not a simple afternoon. thats TWO men!!!! If your a rock climber..weight lifter..yeah maybe...its not simple as it sounds.
Yes you can install directly to the sub floor, however they make a thin, inexpensive foam rubber padding that I suggest you put down first... It's worth the few extra dollars
Do _not_ use a foam pad for any LVT/LVP, unless the manufacturer recommends it, though I've never heard of it being used. Peel and stick tiles are prone to failure anyway, best to use a specific vinyl tile adhesive.
wvufb77 oh yes that would be great walking around on tow taped tiles , why not just use duct tape intstead of groat and make your own hillbilly linolium lol
Justin Stegeman Perhaps you should watch videos on RU-vid on how to use two sided type for non adhesive tile. It's something that renters do often, but I understand people who have lived in their Mom's basements don't know much outside of dungeon and dragons. Good luck at becoming an adult.
This looks good! I love it as it wears a month later! They start unsticking from the floor and your cat has new vinyl shoes stuck to her feet. To save time I like to pour water directly on the unprotected subfloor to expedite the look. Next time I'll buy new subfloor with the tiles and who cares about the cat.
Let me make one thing clear: Even if Peel-and-Stick flooring is applied PERFECTLY, within a few years the corners and edges will begin to lift. Do your self a favor and never waste money on this flooring option that seems quick and easy. Spend more money and get a permanent floor.
That's what I keep thinking. I'm planning to start on the long, uninterrupted side of the room and work across. I can't imagine why I'd need to start in the middle; there's going to be a gap somewhere, so it might as well be in an out-of-the-way side.
Hi,I work with a company that manufactures epoxy sheet flooring systems ideal for both industrial and commercial facilities. Our goal is to provide a flooring system that lasts longer than vinyl sheet flooring and is easier and faster to install than traditional epoxy paint systems. We are looking for importer. The next best step would be replying to me to schedule a Skype call with me to talk more about our process. You can add my Skype name now by searching "can.fast" Thanks.
I have peel and stick tile and am in the process of removing that garbage. I will never willingly use peel and stick again, ever! Its lifting up all over the place!
I DIDNT SEE YOU PUT DOWN EXTRA GLUE , HOMEDEPOT TOLD MY HUSBAND AND I TOO BUY EXTRA GLUE COMPOUND BEFORE LAYING STICKY TILE . I'M GETTING OF DIFFERENT WAYS PEOPLE DO THIS AND OTHER THINGS ALSO . I GUESS THERE IS NO ONE WAY TO DO IT PROPERLY . OR MAYBE THEY WERE JUST TRYING TO GET US SPEND OUR MOPNEY , MONEY , MONEY MONEY . . DONT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER .
Aaron Rossell yes you need to put a primer down first for them to adhere well, surface preparation primer/multi purpose primer. i installed peel and stick in my kitchen and entry way 14yrs ago and i am replacing them just now with new ones over the top , the old ones started peeling up but for the cost i think 14yrs is pretty good.
Andre Freyta what does it matter how many layers ? as long as they stick just makes it thicker and better in my opinion . plus have you ever tried to take the old ones off ? more of a pain in the A$% than its worth and more messy
Yes ive taken flooring off of several homes and it sucks but it sucks more when there is multiple layers because of lazy people. Just sucks for the next owner of the home or contractor
