That's the old school way of making ice cream. My grandma had an ice cream maker that we had to take turns rotating the handle, so the container on the inside could spin. The container was surrounded by rock salt.
Fun fact, WW2 bomber crews would stick icecream mix and milk in discarded ammunitions boxes and stick them in their bonbers. The cold air from the altitude and the turbulence from the AA and interceptors would then produce icecream for the crew to enjoy if they survived to land.

Even if it was a full course meal, if the end result is that you're still gonna eat it, and there is some protective covering over the food, then stepping on it is just a means to an end. IMO It's not disrespectful in any way.

I think it's less effort actually. It's less tiring to drive than manually stir that tub of ice cream for hours IF you have no automatic way of doing it.
