Just saw this video (I know it's old). I've been stumbling around trying to make decent rice in the Instant Pot but it either comes out overcooked or undercooked. I tried your way and it came out perfect! I'll never make it any other way again! Thank you for posting this.

This is a great video! I've tried making rice in my Instant Pot, and it never turns out good. Either too mushy or too sticky and lumpy. YUKKK! I like my rice to be fluffy and to separate easily. When I saw your video and you cooked the rice in a little oil, I knew this would work. When I make soup with fideo, I always lightly brown it first, so it doesn't get mushy when cooking in the soup. I made chicken tikka masala for dinner and used your rice procedure in my Instant Pot. Girl.....it was cooked just right and so delicious! My husband ate a little bowl of rice by itself and loved it. This is the first time in 3½ years that the rice cooked perfect. I am so glad I ran across your recipe and thank you so much for sharing. 👍👍

Thanks for typing down the directions here for this and for other videos videos too. Coouldn't do it without your help..... And desi Ghee rules!! Used in moderation it is much better than cooking oils adultrated with chemicals and fats, and provides a much better taste and texture too.

Absolutely perfect. I had tried one other Basmati recipe video from an Indian author that used the 1 to 1 ratio of rice and water and the rice was hard. This was much better - I did use Ghee instead of oil. So tasty! Thank you! Haven't looked at your channel yet. Hoping you will have recipes for different IP preparation of different types of rice.

@OrganisedbyIman
@OrganisedbyIman 7 лет назад
You're welcome Hana! I'm not sure how many times to be honest, I just rinse it until the water runs clear. I don't let it soak at all before rinsing it. I pop it straight into a strainer from the container that I store it in, rinse it and then pop it into the IP.

Thanks for sharing this! I have been thinking about whether to buy the Insta Pot or not. I use a pressure cooker for pretty much all of my cooking, so was wondering if the Insta Pot would be a good switch. What do you suggest?

Thanks for stopping by Sidra! If you use a pressure cooker for nearly all your cooking, I think you'd love the Instant Pot. I barely used a pressure cooker before I bought it and now I cook nearly all my meals in it! There are loads of videos on RU-vid that you can watch to see if it would work for you and the kinds of meals you make :)

When making brown rice or regular white rice even, must you always use the slow release method for the pressure or can you use the quick release like it's done in this video?

After cooking perfect rice following your instructions, the door bell rings. - visitors!!! - what do I do, leave it in Instant Pot on warm function - will it become dry or soggy if kept too long in this state. Your personal experience would be most welcome. Janet

Does removing the starch make it healthier? I was just wondering what's the purpose of rinsing off the starch.

Rinsing the starch off ensures it does not clump together and look mushy

what's the point of all this if you use added aroun 20g of oil??? With oil I can achieve same thing in normal saucepan. also when you cook such a little amount as 2 cups - then it is much easier to get separated grains.. I would love to see how would you achieve that without oil and by cooking for example 700g of rice (uncooked weight)
@OrganisedbyIman
@OrganisedbyIman 6 лет назад
You can only cook up to 3 cups in a 6L Instant Pot. I still get separated grains. If you want to do it on the stove, with no oil and watch over a pot - by all means, feel free to do so :) The point of 'all' this is to demonstrate how *I* make basmati rice in the Instant Pot, not how you should. If you're not convinced by the method, don't try it :)

Hi, every time I make rice it seems to come out all sticky even Basmati in my instant pot. What am I doing wrong? I do equal water with rice and cook on manual pressure high for 6-8 mins and let the pressure decrease naturally. If anyone knows or has tips? I'd appreciate it.
@PDXTundra
@PDXTundra 2 года назад
Did you even watch the video? The rice/water ratio is 1:1.25. Then follow the rest of her directions which includes oil, pressure setting and time, then do an instant pressure release. Make sure you rinse the excess starch off before cooking.

There is a rice cooker on the IP right isn't that less fluffing about then cooking with the pressure cooker option ? just curious to know why the pressure cooker instead of the ricer cook of course I totally get the time fact part. Ps I'm afraid of the pressure cooker and it exploding in my face so don't use it on my ip lol😥
@OrganisedbyIman
@OrganisedbyIman 7 лет назад
The rice cooker option cooks on low pressure, I just prefer the manual setting as it's quicker to set. There's not a huge difference :) Don't be scared! Try it - just wait for the pressure to vent completely before you open the lid and open it away from you :)

I like the video but hate unclear instructions like "a little bit of oil and some salt"... How much is a "little bit"? That doesn't help us at all, an actual measurement would be appreciated. Also, what kind of oil? There are A LOT of different kinds of oils.
@OrganisedbyIman
@OrganisedbyIman 5 лет назад
I haven't included instructions for oil and salt as the amounts would vary based on the amount you are cooking. I would say 2 tablespoons are sufficient for two cups of rice as in this video. I'm aware there are different kinds of oils, thank you. I've used sunflower oil in this particular video, and coconut oil in the past.
@PDXTundra
@PDXTundra 2 года назад
Just watching her pour the oil told me it amounted to a good heathy tablespoon. I normally use 2 tablespoons for 3 cups uncooked rice. Any oil works, I just use olive oil (not extra virgin) or avocado oil. The whole idea, as she explained, is that oil adds viscosity so the rice doesn’t stick together as much. As for salt, just add a half teaspoon if you wish. Salt really isn’t needed, as normally whatever you’ve layering on top of the rice has a salt component anyway. Remember, you can’t take out the salt if you use too much. Me, I never add salt to rice when cooking, and add it at the dinner table if I feel more is warranted.
