You're a life saver! Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I'm made boba for the first time tonight and the instructions on the packaging weren't as clear as yours! I love how you go step by step (and I needed those details, I wouldn't have known about soggy boba! NOT SOGGY BOBA D: ) You made my first time making boba tea a breeze. I'm now enjoying my first of many home cooked boba teas without leaving the house! Again, thank you soooooo much!

So update : To make things faster, I boiled the water in the water cooker. Transfered the water into the IP in a Saute program. Let it simmer a bit. Put half a cup of tapioca pearls and stir. Press Cancel. Close lid and seal. Pressure cook for 3-4 minutes (I did 4 though). After cooking, wait 4 more minutes before releasing the pressure. Strain in running cold water. Transfer in a cup or bowl and put honey and mix to prevent from sticking. That's all folks 😂

Exactly what I was looking for. I brought tapioca pearls few months back but they take way too long to cook on stove when boiling. I ended up throwing away cuz gas means money. Know I have an instant pot and wondered if I could just pressure cook them and it would be much faster!

have you experiment with different amounts of boba? seems like a 1/4 cup seems too little for the amount of work. have you tried larger amount of boba say 1/2 cup or even 1 cup ? btw I am using the 8 quart instapot...thanks, love your videos
@angelwongskitchen
@angelwongskitchen 2 года назад
You could double the recipe and using a bigger instant pot would help with that. I don’t do more than 1/2 cup at once just because that’s a lot of boba and it’s best to consume fresh within and hour or two.

Angel, thanks for this video. After spending an embarrassing amount of money this past summer at various bubble tea stores for myself and my kids, I decided to try and come up with a more cost effective solution. Research suggests that the Bolle brand of boba are available at a local Asian grocery store in my city which is nice as Canadians usually get screwed when it comes to things like this. They also have the E-Fa and Wufuyuan brand but I like how you pointed out (in your other video) that the Bolle brand has only 3 ingredients vs various other ingredients in the "instant" brands. I've also got an Instant Pot at my disposal along with a good house insurance policy on the off chance I blow something up. The "brown sugar" tea's I've been getting from stores appears to consist of regular milk and then a spoonful of these pearls in a special brown sugar and cocoa sauce. Would it be reasonable to assume that I can make this "sauce" out of brown sugar, cocoa powder and water? Put it in a saucepan and heat it on the stove until it's mixed together? Have you ever tried a sauce like this where you can share the ingredients? Thanks James
@angelwongskitchen
@angelwongskitchen 2 года назад
Hi James! I'm so glad the video was helpful! You'll be fine making the boba in the instantpot (no issues with blowing anything up) 😅. For the brown sugar boba, you can use lots of brown sugar when cooking in the instant pot so it infuses in the boba. I haven't heard of adding cocoa sauce, but it sounds delicious too!
@pacmancalgary
@pacmancalgary 2 года назад
@@angelwongskitchen Interesting. How much brown sugar are you adding to the water in the instant pot? That's a great idea vs doing it afterwards. I did attempt to make a sauce afterwards in the frying pan but ended up with a sticky mess.

I've tried her method (followed to a tee) twice and both times it came perfectly: chewy and soft tapioca! The only problem I have is when mixing it with homemade milk tea, the pearls are all stuck to each other no matter how many times I stir. Any tips how not to make them stick? 😲

I've seen that you're supposed to rinse them quite a bit and also put them in a sugar syrup and let them sit in that syrup for a bit

@hsiuyilin5167
@hsiuyilin5167 4 года назад
I used her method to cook homemade boba and turns out very well. After water boils a lot, put boba and stir to prevent them from sticking together. Close the lid and use soup function for 15 minutes. When time is up, just self release the pressure immediately and get all bobas out and drain all liquids. Add enough amount of brown sugar to sweeten the bobas, then some ice cubes to cool down the temperature which will made bobas chewy.

So it's waiting for 15 mins for the water to boil, 15 mins cook time, 15 mins pressure release and 15 mins letting it sit in sugar? 1 hour total. That doesn't seem very quick.
@mags506
@mags506 3 года назад
regular ones take longer than an hour. also you can always use boiled water it’s your choice. it doesn’t take 15 minutes. you can quick release if you want. any recipe will need to sit in sugar. there’s no quick way unless you’re buying it from a bubble tea shop.

Black tapioca is a bit deceiving. It doesn't show you that it didn't cook through because it blocked the light from shining through. You need to cook it twice, 3 minutes each time. You can verify that with the white pearl because you will notice it only cooks half way the first time.
