Thanks for this easy to comprehend information. First time in @60 yrs that I was thrilled to "boil water"! Will continue to learn, by watching your well-presented videos. Bless you for sharing your expertise & knowledge.
thanks for this amazing video, my parents are a little older and the manual completely confused them so this video was high quality and straight to the point.
You are very good--clear and succinct. I just got my pot last night, and your video really helped get me started. I will be back to check on your other videos... recipes...thanks again..
Just a used duo gourmet and there were not any instructions so your video was very helpful. Good instructions. Thank you. Now on to making some delish meals.
This was very helpful! When I did the water test I thought my timer was broken but after watching your video a few times I realized I didn’t give enough time for the water to heat up before the 5 minute countdown started! Thank you!
EXCELLENT PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND SETUP REVIEW! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! I, HOPE YOU HAVE A LOT OF RECIPES ON YOUR RU-vid PAGE! THIS IS GOING TO BE SUCH A YUMMY, FOOD-MAKING APPLIANCE! CAN'T WAIT UPTIL MINE ARRIVES FROM COSTCO ON MONDAY, JANUARY 4TH/2020! LOOKING FORWARD TO ROASTS, RIBS, CHICKEN, CHILLI, AND SOUPS, ESPECIALLY! HAPPY COOKING!
Ryan N. Thanks for your comment. I don’t have nearly enough recipe videos as I SHOULD! But please do visit my blog for some great selections especially ethnic recipes. HTTPS://www.PaintTheKitchenred.com
Thank you so much for this video!! I was definitely intimidated when I first opened my box. Your video helped me feel confident and I'm ready to use it!!
I've just posted a video on how to sous vide using the Instant Pot and there are specific instructions on the duo gourmet model too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LDnGmuJgSh4.html
Srikanth, place the vegetables in a steamer basket and place it on a steam rack in the inner pot, (add water to right below the level of the rack). Use the Pressure Cook function on high pressure. Cook time depends on the type of vegetable. Broccoli is 1 minute or even 0 minutes (i.e. press cancel the moment it starts to count down). Cubed potatoes about 2 minutes.
@@simplesingh4685 sorry, I have so many Instant Pots, I got confused :) I was thinking this was a comment on my Duo Evo Plus video! For Idli, you can program it to pressure cook for 12 minutes, but keep the steam release in the venting position so it won't come to pressure. Make sure you have enough water in the bottom. Or you can use Saute mode, and put on a glass lid.
Hello, will you have an idea of how to use the function to make yogurt ??? in other instantpot the word ygt appears for this function and it does not show it. Thanks
You need to press the Yogurt button until "Normal" is selected and that's the fermentation function. "Less" is for a very low temperature fermented rice and "More" is for boiling the milk before fermenting. Hope that helps.
Hi Vinita, the pressure cook button is a good substitute. If you're wishing to steam something like idli you should keep the steam release in "Venting" while you do the pressure cooking. Otherwise if you're following a recipe that tells you to use the steam button, just substitute the pressure cook button. The difference between the steam button and pressure cook is the steam heats up faster. Hope that helps.
You can steam veggies using the Pressure Cook button. The time depends on the type of veggie. Some vegetables just need zero to one minute and others need 3 to 4 minutes. You also have the option to do traditional (like stovetop) steaming by using the pressure cook button, but keep the steam release button in the down position (venting).
Hi June, here's a recipe for jasmine rice. If you use long grain or basmati rice, change the ratio to 1:1 and 6 minutes: www.paintthekitchenred.com/fragrant-instant-pot-jasmine-rice/
@@PainttheKitchenRed Thank you for getting back With me I will make this one tomorrow as I made one from six sisters stuff Believe it or not I got a burn notice
I have a question I have a 6 quart duo Insta pot so when I cook anything do I need to turn the knob to seal it doesn’t let me do that for some reason it only vents so the steam keeps coming out
Thank you for the video. I just ordered the Gourmet version ( $30 off ), It should be delivered soon. I've watched other Instant pot videos and after its done cooking the timer starts to count up and you know its counting up because of the L in front of the numbers. This model didn't seem to have the L before the timer numbers counting up. Is that correct? If so, how do you know if its counting down or up? ( at a glance , you could wait the minute to find out I guess ) Thank you , I will certainly be checking out more of your video's when my pot arrives.
Hi Seth, yes they've gotten rid of the L on the newer models. On the older models, the L comes up if you are in Keep Warm mode. So on your IP, you will see the Keep Warm light on. I hope that answers your question.
I’m new to instant pot , luckily I found ur videos. Very useful informations. I’m in dilemma choosing between duo gourmet & ultra .. can u pls tell me which one will be good?
Hi Nila, they're both good - I use both - so you can't go wrong. The plus point for the Ultra is you can super-customize the programs. The plus point for the gourmet is it's easier to program, the Ultra has a bit of a learning curve. I don't think the customization functionality of the Ultra is applicable to most regular users so I would pick the Gourmet and it's also less expensive. Please review the Shaquille O'Neal electric pressure cooker and possibly some recipes you would suggest for it. Thanks in advance for your help. Would really appreciate it.
As I mention in the video, it's an extra and you can save it for when your current one gets stretched out or damaged or you can use it when you make desserts.
Thank you for this video! The instruction manual was horrible! Also, I found very confusing, the red liner that is present in the top of the box when you open it, thinking that this was something I needed to install, since in the instruction manual their image of the liner is red. Once I saw that you did not have to add that on top of the already installed clear liners, that made so much more sense. Obviously with the red liner in, the lid would not close.
Most of the RU-vid videos I watch for Instant Pot is that they have the "manual button." Mine is an "instant pot duo gourmet multi- use pressure cooker." Which doesn't have a manual button. I tried making rice but mostly the rice sticks to the bottom of the pot. Which is annoying to clean all the rice off. I dont know if I I should add oil to my instant pot while cooking rice. The next thing I was gonna do is beans and mac and cheese but, I want to make rice where it doesn't stick to the bottom bowl of my instant pot. Any ideas?
Jesse, the "manual" button is the same as the "pressure cook" button. Yes, the rice does stick to the bottom of the stainless steel inner pot. You can reduce the mess by spraying the inner pot with cooking oil before cooking the rice. Some people choose to use a nonstick inner pot. I don't use one. You can also try the "pot-in-pot" cooking method for rice. No mess, and serve and store in the same bowl. Only downside is you can only make a smaller quantity (2 cups raw rice) in a 6 quart.
Ivonne, I wouldn’t pressure cook with them; add them in after pressure cooking. You will probably trigger the “Burn” error if you do. Once you’ve mastered your Instant Pot you might be able to pressure cook with some milk products thinned out with water or broth.
@@PainttheKitchenRed thanks, Im new on instant pot, just cooked my rice for dinner and it was good, I have couple of questions all we cook is “Pressure Cook” although we don’t press that button? Also once food is ready and the only button lighted is keep warm that means food is ready and we can open the lid? Because for my rice after the running time from 12 minutes counting down it started counting up starting with 1, so I was wondering if that time was to keep food warm. Thanks for your help and sorry to bother but instructions are not very clear or quite specific.
@@ivonnepinet6088 not sure what you mean about not pressing the pressure cook button. You will need to press it to set the pressure cook time. When the Instant Pot is in keep warm mode, you won't be able to open the lid until the float valve comes down. Once it's down, you can open the lid. You can either let it come down on its own (takes 10 to 30 minutes) or you can release the pressure manually by pressing the steam release button. Hope that helps.
Instruction to line up the triangles I found that if you close the lid all the way to the right the triangles do not line up, please explain if it is more important to line up or close to the right all the way. Thank you
There is no "Steam" button but you can use Pressure Cook. The difference between steam and PC is that steam heats up the contents (ie water) faster. If you want to steam idlis, you would do the pressure cook, with the steam release in venting position.
Veronica, I've never experienced that so I don't have an answer other than you should use Costco's generous return policy because using it could possibly short out the Instant Pot. On the other hand, you could try using it and hope it evaporates over time.
Hi Amanda, no, the button will be up (in sealing position) when you're pressure cooking. Then after pressure cooking is complete, you can either let the pressure release on its own where you just leave it alone and let the float valve come down on its own or do a quick release by pressing the steam release button.
Yes, depending on how delicate the food is, you can pressure cook for a short period of time, like 1 minute, or you can use the pressure cook function, but keep the steam release on 'Vent' i.e. button pressed down all the way, for however long you want to steam e.g. 5 minutes. You'll have to set a separate timer, though, since it won't come to pressure. Does that make sense?
Hi I started to make rice and I pressed rice button. it showed 12 minuts and on long time it showed on there was no number countdown . did I make mistake
It can take some time for the 'On' to turn to 12 minutes depending on how much rice and water you're cooking. First, you'll see steam coming out of the float valve and then you'll see the float valve come up, and then the countdown begins. I do hear from some people who say it never goes from 'On' to a countdown. If that happens, just set a timer manually and then press Cancel when the timer is up. If it happens again and again then you may have a defective unit.
Elizabeth, there should have been a couple. I think you'd find my guide useful in case you like to read rather than watch: www.paintthekitchenred.com/how-to-use-the-instant-pot-duo-gourmet-beginners-manual/
@@PainttheKitchenRed thank you. Found the manual online and will also read yours. I watched your video yesterday and it was a good start. It took me awhile to figure out the steam release valve -- how to get it in cooking mode and not releasing steam. Am on my second try now with brown rice. Thank you for replying!
🤔 it's been 20 minutes for the water test and the timer still hasn't come on. Steam is coming out of the valve the whole time. And the float valve is up I'm very confused
Abbey, I would try again. Very small quantity of leaking steam is nothing to be concerned about (like wisps of steam) but if it's more than that, there's something wrong. Make sure the steam release handle is pushed in all the way. It might be slightly raised.
I just bought the instant pot at Costco before Christmas and wasn’t sure how to use it. Your review is so good. I am not scared to start now. Thank you very much. One question which button to use to steam meat?
Oh, I'm thrilled that you found it helpful! re: cooking meat, you can use the pressure cook function but the time will depend on what cut it is and how large the pieces are. Look for a recipe that uses that same cut of meat and use those timings. Let me know if you have further questions.
You can select Pressure Cook but keep the steam release button down (i.e. in venting mode) and cook for however long you usually steam idlis (e.g. 11 to 12 minutes). Hope that helps.
Sonal, this model does not have a Cake button, but you can use the pressure cook function. So if you're following a recipe, just use Pressure Cook instead of Cake. However, I do want to caution you that you can't "bake" a cake in the Instant Pot (except for the Duo Evo Plus which has a bake-like function), so you're basically steaming a cake. Personally I only like to use it for cheesecakes or lava cake. However there are many recipes out there for cakes, bread pudding, etc. Try and see what you think.
@@sonalraval4138 no, don't get the LUX model. I don't care for it because it doesn't have the features you'll need. Read this post of mine if you want to find out about the pros and cons of the different IPs. In the table of contents, click on "compare instant pots": www.paintthekitchenred.com/instant-pot-buy/
Mai, you can use the Pressure cook button - it's the same as Steam except Steam comes to pressure faster than Pressure Cook. If you want to steam without pressure, just keep the steam release in 'vent'. You will have to time it manually since it isn't coming to pressure.
