Maverick never stabilized, and was still clocking up when you took it out of the 155° bath. Same with the TP-19, and neither one had an accurate temperature. Personally, I think the Hensun got short changed here. And for durability... will the 100 buck unit outlast FIVE of the Hensuns for the same money? And the Hensuns offer a lifetime warranty, for what that is worth. Personally, I look for accuracy first, speed second and an easy to read display third. As long as it has a hold button, I can get the display out to a place where it can be read. And being able to calibrate it is a VERY nice option. But differences of opinion are what makes horse races. :)
What do you mean they are accurate? You pulled out Maverick PT100 at 159.3F, Thermopop at 156F, TP-19 156.7F and climbing, Chinese 154.8F and climbing... (it could potentially reached 160F+) I learned the cheap Chinese one I had registered higher temp than what it is, so the meat comes more rarer than I want.
Thanks for the suggestion in your recent video to go back to this review. Surprised there was so little difference between (some of) rhe units at such a range of prices.
I was able to get the thermopro 19 for 13.00 buck.I know I couldn't believe the price too.I love this thermopro. I work in a theme park restaurant so I am always use it. I fell in love with the thermopro mk4 from borrowing from my chef but it is expensive so after some research, I found the thermopro 19 online and fell even more in love and by watching your video, I confirmed it. Because like you said it was better than the mk4 and the price made the deal even sweeter so now I have bragging rights over my chef now. Lol.
10:00 You mentioned the Thermapen was the only thermometer in the set that has the sleep/wake feature but the ThermaPro TP19 says it does the same thing on Amazon. Can you confirm if the TP19 does or does not have this feature as well? Thank you.
As long as its accurate and a good display with auto backlight..is all ever needed. Have had the same one for 6yrs a folding kind. No make marks any more. Wish I knew what I bought.
Yes.. I had my SV bath actually set at 156. That's the only way I could get all of the thermometers to come up to 155. Most of them would stop on 154 while the bath was set at 155. That one that went up higher is because i accidentally let it touch the casing of the SV circulator.
Not to quibble too much, there were two that over shot; including the thermopro. And it also appeared that possibly the last one overshot too, but it was unclear because you immediately removed the thermometer out when they hit 156. IMO, I think the conclusion is probably still mostly the same, even if the thermopro is slightly less accurate. Afterall, this is not rocket science. I also own both thermowork mk and thermopro, and can vouch that the thermopro is only slightly slower in response.
what good is a speed test if the accuracy is crap. you can see some thermometers are off in your speed test and continue to climb as you pull them out. in your chart you gave all thermometers the highest rating for accuracy but we can see in the time it take to reach 155 and the time you pull them out they arent all accurate. after they all reached 155 you should have shown how long they take to settle to a temp, thats the real time test and it would have shown which are accurate.
I had a thermpro, lasted about a year before it just displayed dashes and would not do anything else, bit the bullet and just bought the Thermapen mk4 hope it lasts much longer than the thermpro, I could never go back to cooking without a thermometer.
I never really considered the ThermoPro. Without doing any research (and Amazon being crowded with Chinese ripoffs), I assumed the ThermoPro was a Thermoworks ripoff and dismissed it. I will have to give it a try. Thanks for doing this, John.
@@ManCaveMeals if it's frozen on top you know it's almost 32. If all thermometers read the same then you know your good. Tap from the faucet you don't know temp.
Hmmm... i have a few of those around here. Thermoworks Signals, Smoke, TW8060... I have the SmokeBloq, Fireboard,... not sure what else. I doubt I'll do a shootout. In my humble opinion, those things aren't worth the money. I never use them myself. I just have a bunch of them because I'm a gadget geek and I feel like I need to be able to discuss them from first hand experience. I am a solid advocate of having a temp control system and those double as wireless thermometers in most cases.
You’re probably right, I have a a Weber iGrill. It works well enough, but the Bluetooth signal has a hard time with the distance from my kamado to within the house, and it is well within range. I primarily utilize it when the weather is not optimal. Thought out the ThermoPro version but it probably is best to just skip it. Much thanks from Greensboro for the continued content!
To turn on the backlight on the Thermopen MK4 just put your thumb over the light sensor. I chose the MK4 because of the company. The product is designed in the US and built in the UK and you can't find a bad review about it. I purchased a Thermopro TP08s and had a card in the package that had instructions to give a 5 star review on Amazon and they would send you a $20 Amazon gift card. Would you rather a company that has honest reviews or has to purchase their reviews.
doesnt matter, dont read reviews watch reviews. actions speak louder than words. thermopro puts up a damn good fight against the thermapen mk4 even if it was priced the same.
also, i just bought the tp19 and no such card was in the package or anything that said anything about a gift card in exchange for a good review. you probably bought yours from a shady vendor and i have little doubts it was the vendor, not thermopro, that put the card in there.
@@dirtrider88 I bought the TP08s by ThermoPro through Amazon UK approximately 6 months ago. I also had a card in the box but mine didn't try to "buy my review". On one side there was a 10% discount code to use on another ThermoPro product on Amazon (no catch, just a code that as of today I have used and confirmed was still valid) and on the other side there was an invitation to "Share my experience of their product via Instagram" (no mention of it having to be a positive one) along with #ThermoPro and a picture of the item. By doing so, one would be entered into a Prize Draw with a chance to win an Amazon $250 gift card.
