Holy shit. What a wonderful time to be alive. I'm sitting here drunk, in the middle of the night, somewhere in Poland and honestly enjoying watching a professional taking care of a cow's hoof. Who would've thought anyone would be interested in such a topic and yet - 792k subscribers!
Me watching Hoof GP for the first time: "Holy crap, this actually happens?!" Me months later: "Yup, definitely a hoof cavity." Much love from Connecticut, USA. Keep making sure these lovely animals are cared for 🖤💜❤
Lots of us here with the same story. I’m a city slicker, and even if I live to be 150, I doubt I’ll ever need to know how to properly care for a bovine’s hooves. Nevertheless, I’ve been a follower for about 3 months and I’ve watched a crap ton of his videos. To your point, showed up because of the algorithm, stayed for the education.
I didn't even know cows needed this. I thought it was just horses getting shoes and whatever. To see such instant results, mainly pain management...is wonderful. As Temple Grandin has written, it's our job to make sure that even farm animals are kept comfortable and healthy while under our care.
When we have hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in these animals there’s little reason to be concerned. Dairy cattle are some of the most pampered animals on the planet. When we milk 2,000 cows three times a day we want the best possible production we can get. Most dairy farms are family owned. There’s millions of dollars at stake and riding on these critters. We want them very happy.
@@bellona6356 Well I work on one and where ever you get your info is screwed up. When a family has millions of dollars at stake they aren’t going to abusing the things that pay the families. In fact it’s quite the opposite. The cows are put in our charge. When you’re milking 1800+ a day , you would not dare to hurt them. A happy cow gives more milk. Go harass someone else. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
That was one of the most instant/dramatic improvements I've seen you achieve on here. The way that ankle wasn't bent made it glaringly obvious how much better that poor cow felt already. Well done.
I-84-year-old, live in San Diego California United States 2 miles from the Mexican border worked for 30 years in a hospital as a respiratory therapist love your show or channel
I've been watching for a while, but this was such a great job showing side-by-side examples of before and after difference in the cow's foot placement. Thank you for the extra detail.
I don’t know why a old woman from the mountains of West Virginia would ever start watching Hoof GP but here I am hooked and can’t miss any post! Thank you for doing a wonderful job
Lol. I'm thinking the same thing. Old lady in Aotearoa here, have never owned or plan to own a cow. I think it's the pleasure of seeing someone so competent doing such a good job, that makes it interesting for me.
Astonishingly they really do, the trimmer on the dairy I grew up on always called the blocks crutches for cows! One shocker is just how much pain a cow can stand before it shows. I tell you they are stoic creatures and their claws can withstand tremendous punishment. You'll hear ppl say you Can overheat their claw with a grinder. Or a blowtorch I really don't think so, I've literally taken a claw from a cadaver and put a torch on it with )the claw over my fingers and no shit I didn't feel it! But all that means that you've really gotta watch the cows, their feet are EVERYTHING! So no joke the trimmer is literally one of the most important ppl on a farm
Rewatching this in 2024. It was great to watch your growth. From the early camera work, to the original intro song still warming my heart, to the loud grinder being silenced with background music. The lack of craigy boy I could do without (my name being Craig lol) living vicariously through him shout out to craigy boy
Oh this is the only hoof trimming channel I watch. I have learned so much about cows and bulls hooves. What gentle beasts they are. Love them. Trying to talk husband into getting a homestead to raise some beautiful dairy cows.
About a month ago, I had no clue why YT "recommended" one of these videos. I'm now on a mission to hunt down and watch every single one of them. Since I'll never own a cow or live on a farm, this is purely "knowledge for knowledge's sake," but that's OK...it never hurts to learn about things outside your experience. Oh, and props to your drone operator. Outstanding aerial footage.
I have truly fallen down the RU-vid rabbit hole! I gotta say, I do enjoy watching you help them. Thank you for your work and dedication to these animals. 💜💙
It's nice to see the cow had gotten relief from pain and able to put the normal weight on the hoof and walk normally instead of gingerly walking on a painful hoof.
The before and after in the end was so good to see. It is clear how highly skilled you are, knowing just by a few clues the exact problem. And then the fix that is just right. You can’t gain that kind of knowledge from books or a course, that takes time and experience!
I have so much respect for people who care for animals. They can't ask for our help, so kudos to the ranchers who take notice and get them the care they need, and to the hoof guy's who work all kinds of hours and weather to give them relief.
I know nothing about cows really or hooves. I wanted to be a vet when I was younger though. And watching your videos helps feed that void. I also really love seeing the care that is taken with these cows to make them healthy and comfortable. Warms my heart! Thanks for your videos!
They need to adapt that hydraulic leg-holding thing for parents to use when they're trying to change kids diapers. It's too late for me, but maybe for the next generation of parents.
These Cows are sooooo fortunate to have you + your team. She must have been in agony + seeing her walk out of the Crush bearing her weight on that hoof was heart lifting! I’ve no idea how I came across your channel, no matter, because now I’m hooked!😉🐂
Love the videos sir. Wife and I can't get enough of them. We may cry or tear up when we see a cow in pain and know you and Craig will take care of them so it eases the pain lol. We get so invested in the animals. Keep up the good work gentlemen.
It’s 2am and I’m sitting in a hotel in Hong Kong watching this…about to fly back to Germany. Something to do when forced to quarantine for 30 hours in HK!
Went to the comments section looking for someone else as disconcerted by Graeme’s lack of facial hair and found (almost) nothing but positivity and enthusiasm for the video’s contents and for all the work Graeme and Craig do to make cows comfortable.
Am definitely as disconcerted. Graeme looks much better with a beard. I was the same with David Tennant. Without the beard, nothing With a beard, suddenly handsome. We shall appreciate Graeme and Craig for helping the cows too.
I really appreciated the "Before and After" photos shown side-by-side at the end. The difference between the two was astounding! Bless you for taking such good care of her!
Awe poor cow 🐄 😢 heartbreaking 💔 looks so painful 😢 💔 😭, bless thanks to you " The hoof GP " for helping this poor cow 🐄 & all the other animals you help 💙.
@@Tetroploid You seem to feel strongly about this. Mama is also just a nickname for a female pet, a dog, cat, COW perhaps. But I don't want to spoil your fun thinking this Cow will be separated from her calf, so please do continue. LOL....
This is one of your videos where, as a city person, I can really understand the value of what you do and how much you helped this cow. Hello from Texas!
@Shane cows were "created" by humans within agriculture history, they are more adapted to these kind of environments than wildlife, and wild animals can suffer far more gruesome and deadly injuries
I thought the same exact thing. But he most definitely had a little poo smear soooo close to his eye. Ugh I just wanted it to be wiped off so bad lol... All part of a farm. So. much. pooh.
Greetings from Sydney. You have our households attention; 7 adults in a shared house watching you while we have lunch... yes we are weird and we all Love your vids & your passion advocacy for Farm animals. The group are from New Zealand, Australia,Iran,Iraq,China,Cuba, Sweden and Tanzania. Adult professionals without "Family" in Sydney Australia so we created our own one. 🥰
What a wonderful series of videos. Very educational and commentary is obviously based on long experience and knowledge. I love how you explained the pathophysiology of this cow’s issues. I am guessing that Knowing WHAT happened is the easy part. Knowing WHY it happens as you obviously do sets the line between amateur and professional.
Lots of skilled trimmers on RU-vid, but they don't have your connection, your smooth approach or the same fast method in which you work....you love these cows
The work you do for these cows is priceless to see them walk on out knowing their pain is going to go away and they can just walk around eating the grass feeling pain free and healthy
Graeme, It's such a pleasure viewing these videos; I subscribed almost a year ago, and the older videos are every bit as amazing as your recent ones. You're a great teacher. So glad to see you doing courses online! I hope you can look forward to years of mentoring and workshops when you think ahead to retirement. Your years of experience can benefit new generations of Hoof GPs and provide a comfortable income, too.
In the short time I’ve been watching your videos, I’ve come to appreciate what people like you do for a living. You guys are truly hero’s for cows. Keep up all the amazing work you do for a living. You are a true hero
Love to see how much you care and help these cows. I know how much pain a slight ingrown toenail feels, can't imagine the pain these poor cows experience. They are so lucky to have someone cares for them as you do. 👍
After decades of software development, I would give it all up in a heartbeat to become your apprentice. I just love the idea of relieving pain from these gentle animals. Before watching your videos, I didn't even know trimming cows hooves were a thing. Thank you so much for the education.
@@gwenhope9931 I thought Graeme had dyed his hair darker. That would be a mistake because men look distinguished with graying hair. Graeme’s very good looking & aging naturally makes him look even better.
I remember my father doing this only with hand tools (and of course the help of his two elder sons xD ). Only those who've experienced this first hand, know the SMELL that comes from these injures :s !!! It is really disgusting and makes the feeling of helping the cows even more satisfactory :D Very good job by the way!
not sure if it's the injuries though, think all hooves smell terrible. whenever we get our horses hooves taken care of my dog likes to eat the clippings. like I noticed her chewing on something hard so I took it of her and was like wtf is this? so I smelled it. big mistake literally one of the worst things i ever smelled, nearly threw up XD
youtube recommended this to me and somehow it never occurred to me cows can get cavities in their hoofs or what you would do when it happens... very interesting, and I'm happy she was so much more comfortable immediately! I just don't know enough yet to know if the brown sludge coming out was from the abscess, or manure that got in there, or what - but it made me cringe when I first saw it, thinking it was some sort of blood at first.
The cow was saying "girlfriends he's just such a great pedicures!!!" as she left the crush to join the others. Cows are such gorgeous creatures...........
I love to see how you take care of these cows ❣️ sometimes I feel like the farm animals or cattle get over looked when it comes to their feelings. I think it’s wonderful when people step up and watch out for them. You’re amazing. Ty👍
That's so neat! It makes me thing of how wonderful I feel after going to the prosthetist and getting new shoes and inserts. Or even just a good soak. I imagine from the moment you get them in the crush and take the weight off a sore foot, they feel worlds better.
If you like this music there is a RU-vid video that has all of it that he uses for the most part and it’s very nice you can play it on your computer or phone it’s very nice Alma find the link and paste it
Thank you for the opportunity to watch the different problems, I cannot join any offers being 83 years old, not farming anymore, but still enjoy every video. God bless.
I have been watching your videos off and on for over a year now and this is my first time commenting,( I never post comments on any videos) BUT i felt i had to, Your videos are SOOO therapeutic and incredibly satisfying to watch. You are a master at digging out all the dead and rotting hoof and tissue from these poor cows and get them walking without pain. If I am ever stressed out all I have to do is watch a few of your videos and i can feel my blood pressure lowering.. lol ,,. very satisfying!!!! SOOO thank you for all the extra work you do by videoing your work and allowing us to get a glimpse into your private life.
Its only satisfying cuz he makes you believ there is an instant relief , but there is none. Cow doesnt even feel the difference. He wants that ads money.
