@youtubeisapublisher6407
@youtubeisapublisher6407 2 года назад
@@manwhotookatit5666 well, from a purely pragmatic standpoint stress, sickness, and infection make food animals less nutritious to eat. On top of that, not all cows are slaughtered, as stated in the video these are milk cows, and sick cows won’t produce as much good milk, and if they die they produce none. From the ethics side of things, taking the power of life and death over a creature makes one responsible for it, and while many cows are eventually killed, allowing them to wallow in filth and disease beforehand would be irresponsible sadism.

The problem is people in the US (I know that’s not where he operates but it’s what I know) demand cheap meat, dairy, and eggs and don’t care about the suffering that such demands create. Factory farming causes immense and unnecessary suffering and pollutes the earth. There are much more ethical and environmentally sound ways to farm, but it costs more and the higher cost gets passed on to the consumer. Rather than simply eat less animal protein and more cheap plant based foods, people continue to eat the typical American diet that’s both unhealthy and inhumane. I do not eat meat often, but when I do, I source it carefully. I belong to a CSA, and I get meat, eggs, and dairy with my vegetables from local organic farms that are also certified humane. I think the cost can be as much as 3-4 times what I’d pay if I shopped at a discount megastore. Not always; sometimes the cost isn’t much higher at all. The chickens and ducks roam and forage freely during the day and as a result, there’s a lot of variation in egg size, shell and yolk color, and the meat is less tender because the birds are allowed to walk and swim at will. Some people complain about that for some reason, as if every chicken breast must be identical to the next. We need to change our diets and our expectations if we care about the lives of our food animals and want to be better stewards of the earth.

If animals are competition for food they tend to be treated poor if they are a source of food (spies to most animals killed for their fur as well)they have to be treated well or the stress hormones damage their meat (as well as other things). One of the cruelest things you can do to a guernsey is to not milk them, they produce enough milk to feed 4or 5 calves and only have one. They do not reabsorb the milk instead it rots inside of them.

It is wonderful to watch these animals gaining such relief and care. I have chronic tendonitis in my arms and I am awed by the physical demand from chipping away at hooves! I only recently discovered these vids and haven't seen anything to show exactly how that crush machine works - it looks fascinating. I never even knew cows required foot care like this so you have expanded my knowledge - thanks and best wishes from Canada.

How often do you go through a knife? I’d imagine with always sharpening them you would use a lot

I was a paramedic in Idaho where we have a lot of "farm accidents". Now that's graphic! 🤢 It makes me so very sorry for the cows and even more in awe of you and Craig for improving their lives. 💜

I'm always tense about this. I'm always worried that he will say that nothing can help this animal, and that they will have to do away with it. So worrisome.

I can feel this cow's pain. I had a diabetic ulcer on my left heel that took two years to heal. The last six weeks were spent wearing a 7 pound walking boot 24 hours a day for 6 weeks. Same idea as with the cow, to take pressure off the heel.

@@JulieWallis1963 This is a special reply to this viewer, and others with similar concerns. I've been diabetic for 40 years and I usually have very good control of the disease. In May, 2019 I woke up and saw raw skin on my heel. It was about 1/2" X 3/4" in size. I tried to treat it myself but it kept getting bigger to about 1" to 2". In August 2019 I saw three G.P.'s and they said it looked untreatable and I would probably need a below the knee amputation as gangrene had started. In November 2019 I went to an infectious disease clinic. At that time I was put on strong antibiotics for several months administered through a PICC line. I also had 62, two hour treatments in an oxygen hyperbaric chamber. In late 2020 I had a skin graft added on the wound. Since no pressure could be applied to the area I had a plaster cast applied from my knee all the way down my leg. A fiberglass "walking boot" protected the cast and took pressure off my foot. In the spring of this year the wound had healed enough so that regular bandaging could be used. In April of this year the wound was successfully healed. I'd like to thank this channel for allowing me to pass on important health information since I have no other way of contacting the requester.
