Having a hair and makeup professional/skilled amateur makes a huge difference! Sure, it can take a while, but it cuts retouching time drastically. But that's the smaller part; a good makeup artist brings a wealth of talent and experience to help your photos become even better than originally planned. And the closer the shot, the more important it is to have a GOOD makeup artist--poor makeup can ruin shots.

Absolutely Stunning Images. Well done to Everyone. Also loved the impact of the "simple" colour wheel. For those starting out with a MUA for the first time your advice about the time to prepare is spot on. My first few colabs with local MUA were eye-opening in terms of effort and time to create the works of art on the model - and always worth it in terms of great images (I'm biased) and reduced PP in PS (or your editor of choice). Thanks to Everyone !!!

Fantastic video once again. Chloe really looked as though she was having fun and it does just show what a difference a professional MUA can do for a shoot. Just one thing Gavin didn't ask Polly's permission to put the lightmeter under her chin😂😂😂.

@cuttinbb
@cuttinbb 11 месяцев назад
As you say, makeup can take anywhere from ½h to multiple hours. If hair is involved add at least ½h to do hair styling. Always work constructively. The first time I worked with a HMuA it took over 1h to get the model ready. Pay attention to what the artists do to the model, because even with a good moodboard, you may want a small change as you see the canvas is coming together. Working with creatives is not always easy, but it’s totally worth. You can learn a lot during the creative process if you work as a team, and as you say, doing as much as possible in camera is the photographer’s job. Giving access to the tethering station is very important too. Every change takes time, the same as when lighting is changed. Your video presented it brilliantly. I wish I would have watched this video the first time I did a shooting with quite simple hair and makeup. I thought 15min would be enough, and ended being 45min for the first look and 25min for the second one.

Gorgeous images as usual, the yellow color palette is really eye catching. Gear question: in a studio setting, is there any reason to prefer the Olympus 12-40 f2.8 over the 12-45 f4? Thank you!
@GavinHoey
@GavinHoey 11 месяцев назад
Good question. As I'm working at f/5.6 the main reason I'm using the 12-40mm is because I own that one and don't have the 12-45mm 😉
@marike1100
@marike1100 11 месяцев назад
@@GavinHoeyI’d imagine that the f2.8 lens is a bit more versatile but the f4 focuses closer and is definitely smaller. Tough choice but your 12-40 and 40-150 images looks incredible. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing Gavin. I tether to an iPad but the image through 'Lightroom for iPad' shows as a jpg (same as the rear screen of the camera) which presents a brighter exposure to that of the final RAW file imported into 'Lightroom for desktop' any thoughts on a work around?

why 1/4000 since the flashes are are the same speed? i dont see the reason since you didnt use constant lights......
@GavinHoey
@GavinHoey 11 месяцев назад
You nailed it. I didn't need to use constant lights, BUT at the same time I did need to use constant lights for filming the video. In your space, if you can remove the ambient light then you can work wide open without light contamination.
