Welcome to my channel, where I bring you innovative and budget-friendly home renovation ideas, upcycling and crafty projects together with great recipe ideas.
In this exciting episode, I'm thrilled to introduce a brand-new concept that will revolutionize your kitchen: cupboard renovation using a heat gun! Say goodbye to outdated and worn-out cabinets, as I show you how to transform them into stunning masterpieces with just a few simple steps.
Are you tired of the dull plastic coating on your kitchen cupboard doors? Mine was chipped and I did not want to paint over the layers of paint with chipped plastic hanging off. What could I do to make them look presentable?
I fell upon this by accident and wish now to share this with you it was amazing! Look no further! This unique method involves using a heat gun to effortlessly melt away that old plastic layer, revealing a fresh canvas ready for a fabulous makeover. You may be wondering, "How does this work?" Well, let me guide you through the process.
First, gather your materials. You'll need a heat gun, a scraper or putty knife, sandpaper, a high-quality primer, and your chosen paint colour. It's important to note that this technique is only suitable for wooden or MDF (medium-density fibre-board) cabinets, so please ensure your cupboards are made of the appropriate materials before proceeding.
Once you're ready to begin, carefully use the heat gun to warm up the plastic coating on the cupboard doors. Be cautious and keep the gun moving to avoid scorching or damaging the wood beneath. As the plastic heats up, you'll notice it becomes pliable and easy to remove.
Using the scraper or putty knife, gently peel away the softened plastic coating. Take your time and work systematically to ensure you don't miss any areas. The heat gun makes this process significantly easier, saving you hours of painstaking scraping or sanding.
After removing the plastic, give the doors a thorough sanding to create a smooth surface for painting. This step helps the primer adhere properly and ensures a professional finish. Once the doors are smooth and clean, apply a high-quality primer specifically designed for wood or MDF surfaces. Allow it to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Now comes the exciting part - choosing your paint colour! Let your imagination run wild and select hues that will complement your kitchen's overall aesthetic. Whether you prefer a classic white, a trendy bold shade, or a calming pastel tone, the choice is yours. Then choose new handles or knobs to create a fresh new look for your kitchen. Stand back and admire your handywork and you bank balance as this won't cost you thousands!
Using a brush or roller, carefully apply your chosen paint colors to the cupboard doors, ensuring even coverage. Multiple thin coats are preferable to achieve a smooth, flawless finish. Take your time and let each coat dry completely before applying the next.
Once you're satisfied with the color intensity and coverage, let the doors dry thoroughly before reattaching them to the cupboards. As you step back and admire your newly transformed kitchen, you'll be amazed at the stunning results you achieved with this innovative cupboard renovation technique.
We understand that this concept may be new to many viewers, but we're thrilled to be at the forefront of this exciting DIY trend. By using a heat gun to remove the plastic coating and then applying primer and paint, you can achieve a cost-effective and visually impressive renovation that will leave your friends and family amazed.

First video I looked at for removing the partly worn original pvc covering on the cabinet doors, mine are unpainted, and I have a heat gun so if it comes off as easily as yours which I think it will then that will be great, then they will prepped maybe to spray in a plasticote colour or see prices by pro restorers (under £20 per door I think, don’t know if they strip them for that price as well though) or so cheap if done diy. but 100s for a total kitchen reworked is better than into multi 1000s 👍 Good informative video you done there 😃

@@victoriamakes it really is a great way to refresh and transform a kitchen as it can cost thousands new. I have painted my kitchen dresser recently, but as live in Sydney Australia I’m not sure you have what I used but it was a Dulux paint in a French bluey green colour. Almost a duck egg colour, and it was for wooden furniture by Dulux. What are you thinking of painting? 😃💕
