As a composer, I find these videos incredibly helpful! I disagree with all of those who say that he needs to play more. Examples of flute playing and repertoire exist EVERYWHERE on RU-vid. This is informative about the instrument, it isn't entertainment folks. This video is for those who want to learn more about the construction of the instrument, how it works, and its history, as well as hearing some of the player's advice and experience on performing in an orchestra.

JJay Berthume BRUH THIS AINT A HISTORY LESSON. The violin dude talked about violin straihht up. the french horn woman showed us french horn and what it sound like!!!! OF XOURSE WE EXPEXT THAT FRM THIS VIDEO. And then we realized we sat through a HISTORY LESSON BRUH IM DONE. Yes, I think you understand my point. Like dude didnt even bother demonstrating prelude de la faun or something! hell.. play peter and the wolf, show the character the flute is capable of as an instrument. I'm not saying that he is wrong or something like that. I'm saying that, and this is my point, that we sat through a history lesson rather than a demonstration of the qualities of this instrument. Comparatively to the other videos provided by other instruments in the orchestra, providing us with WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE. No opinion or right or wrong just an observation of this video and what it has to offer. Very interesting vid, come on man. All the other instruments demonstrated capability and musicality, this one just talked about the history. boehm and this is that. I have the book of 15 grand studies boehm provided, its great. Galway reccomended it at a master he had in Dallas over 6 years ago.

Curious to know more about the difference between the silver and gold flutes. I would think that the metal used for any flute would be a silver color, but dipped in either silver or gold. And is this real silver or gold, or just a coloring.
@GlaceonStudios
@GlaceonStudios Год назад
I think they are real silver and gold (at least alloys with copper to make them stronger), though with cheaper instruments they might just be plated. However, looking at it I think it doesn't always matter. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ffmz4HLUloI.html

I couldnt find very much coverage of English 17th,18th and 19th century flute music even though the flute was incredibly popular and one of the most highly regarded instrument and skill sets to aquire in English culture. Would you do some research into the topic and producec some performances and vidoes too. Thank you. I took up flute in april after 10 years of waiting to find the right instrument (a rudall carte in cocuswood #7290) my ambition for many years has been to learn to read music fluently and write and bind my musical thoughts into a collection of books.

The flute is literally so difficult to start learning. It takes a ton of muscle memory to get your lips just right to even make a decent sound on it and it is pretty hard to get used to balancing it on your hands because they're unusually far away from your head when holding it.
@dan-us6nk
@dan-us6nk 3 года назад
Second-year flutist here, • The technique isn't too hard; it seems complicated and difficult at first, it comes naturally in a short time. • Think it's about having fun, practicing to get better to be able to satisfy yourself with harder pieces and songs. • Balancing the instrument will be obtained shortly likewise, I would only advise warming up the muscles beforehand.

I'm having awful problems trying to get notes in the upper register. Low notes are fine, but anything above D in the upper register i just can't get - they just keep going back to an octave below. Is this something to do with the keys where my left thumb is, or is it my embouchure? Can anyone advise please?! Thanks.
@moomoo.7
@moomoo.7 8 лет назад
I think you're talking about the middle register (2nd octave) - the upper register is the 3rd octave and has very different fingerings to the 1st and 2nd octaves. To get the middle register the fingering is the same as the lower register (don't change the left thumb) but you use a faster air speed and tighter embouchure. There are some helpful tutorials on RU-vid that you could check out. Hope this helps and good luck getting your high notes :)

Like most all these videos on musical instruments, the hosts neglect to really demonstrate at some length the sound/beauty of the instrument to "wet the musical appetite" of the viewer! After all, the "sound" of the instrument is what really "counts" & how it fits into the whole orchestral experience!!! "Ach du lieber, mein schatz"! How about the infamous "schweinett", or 3 strings stretched across a pig's posterior & you pluck them with your teeth!!!!!
