Climate never been static. Natural cycles and multifarious contributors. The only reason more people are affected by ANY climate at any time in the modern era is the growth of the world's population, and where they live. GB contributes 1% of global emissions; so we should just get on with our lives and protect the prosperity of generations of innovation and hard work. exactly the same for our family froze in the winter walked a mile to school freezing school was cold got back home still cold one coal fire between 6 of us yet we all survived to become decent human beings

I grew up in 50's 60's Ireland - no heating except a solid fuel range which took a while to heat up the kitchen, putting my clothes on in bed in the winter. At 77 I still prefer it cooler in the house and put on an extra sweater.

Then we had the little ice age when the thames froze and they had ice fairs, that was only a few hundred years ago. For the same cost we could have a tidal barrage across the Bristol channel, no need for dangerous nuclear substances that remain dangerous for 1000's of years, the wind might not blow and the sun might not shine but the tide rises and falls twice a day/night every night as regular as clockwork, its done it for millions of years and it will continue for millions of years. Why is no one campaigning for this cheap, reliable, renewable source of energy?

@@iamrocketray Cheap? The cost was one of the main reasons the project was parked. That and the damaging effect it could have on the environment. Although it would act as a barrier for tidal surges, it could also slow down the flow of water from the inland potentially causing major flooding all along the Severn and tributary rivers that flow into it.

@John Of course, nuclear energy as supply of baseload energy is by far the most obvious choice! It's safe compared to all other energy forms, it's energy dense, we have plenty of uranium and even the oceans contain more uranium naturally than we will ever need - and last but not least it's a sensible choice for climate alarmists and skeptics alike:)

Global warming doesn't mean everywhere on the planet will always be warmer. Many parts of the world may experience a decline in temperatures, particularly in winter. Northern and western Europe is one of those places.

I don't think anyone would argue that insulation alone would not have prevented all 8,500 deaths. And obviously the Outer Hebrides will suffer more from cold than central London, but to deny that lack of insulation is a big factor in annual cold-related deaths requires access to the data. Most of which points to the contrary; most poor homes are badly insulated, most poor homes turn their heaters on for less of the time, etc. Only BADLY fitted insulation contributes to humidity. Any time you have a steep temperature gradient you will have condensation, but that's disspiated (ventilated) and excluded (waterproof membranes) within the cavity space, not the living space. How many cold-related deaths are caused by mold rather than cold would be an interesting statistic to look at.

Also, the air in a habitable has to be changed a certain amount of times, to be healthy. Some houses are so over insulated, they are virtually hermetically sealed. So opening the windows is essential, and there goes the heat. It's a fine balance, not as simple as they think. I wouldn't trust any of those unemployed protesters with any type of technical process. They demonstrate how truly dim they are every time they speak.
