Its not untill you get a build up of dirt/dust/grime and some moisture that you will detect problem with an insulation tester. This example simulates rodent damage.

Excellent, David Savery did a similar video on this problem, just go’s to show fancy fancy test equipment isn’t the only tool, we still have to use our brain and think out side the box , I would repeat the test and then do a visual inspection if I am not happy with the first test depending on the location of the cables look for any damage moisture and or dust , but it is very wear to get such a problem on new installations but we should always think about such problems. Fantastic video Gaz as always Thank you 👍❤️

Just dry it back off. Home time.

Interesting. Can you do one while crushing a cable in a vice while gradually adding more crush?

Under floors, in ceiling voids this could easily be passed if not visible on a EICR, or a new install if someone had clattered your cables laying flooring etc (or those animals also known as plumbers)

I have seen cables burnt to a crisp by a plumbers blowlamp and still test out ok .

@@dennisphoenix1 yep we had a nightmare fault to find plumbers used metal banding strap across a waste pipe fixed at a angle, 1 screw through neutral one one leg of the ring, 1 screw through the earth on the other leg of the ring, so when separated both legs all tested out clear, popped off plinths and there it was right below a socket above the worktop, only a plumber could manage that

@@amatchmadeindevon2005 had one the other day , rcd tripping but only when 3 or more lights on , picture nail through the cable

@@amatchmadeindevon2005 had one couple of years ago rcd tripping, ir tested cable , all clear . Reconnected tripping again. Neutral was touching metal studding and going to earth but didn't show on IR test . Strange stuff electricity 🙄🙄

Yep get some damp on it in normal use the the resistance goes down . And starts tripping out 👍👍

Imagine this in a muddy field with 300,000 solar panels. Client calls you out because a string is down, you test, no RISO fault found...

Be good to see how long a piece of cable stripped and then left in a occupied area would take to become unsatisfactory without water just the day to day dust build up

We might give that a try

hi sir can an insulation tester detect wires if the wire's insulation is cracked but not touched each other. like some old cables' insulation cracked and the cooper conductor exposed but not touching each other?
@mrseanpride6449
@mrseanpride6449 Год назад
It can sometimes. The higher the voltage more likely.

How about deionised water ? when all the ionised minerals are removed ? albeit in the real world, cables are unlikely to encounter deionised water ,UK spelling 😁

U had dirty water or minerals in the water when you did the test. LoL. But thanks for posting this vid, again u guys are brilliant, and thanks for the info.Just fyi pure clean water doesn't conduct electricity.
